The franchise GOAT for the Calgary Dragons is an easy choice, but that's not for a lack of quality players. Even the recently retired Mike Izzy, the SHL all-time leader in hits, who spent his whole career with the club, and would be the GOAT for plenty of other franchises, falls short of my selection for the Dragons. Esa Anarikkanen, due to his insane longetivity and skill, leads the SHL all-timers in most major categories: Their 1458 games with Calgary are 200 clear of the next highest, Kristian Eriksson. 514 goals makes Anarikkanen the all time leader, and the only player to break 500 in an SHL career. 549 Assists, good for 2nd all time in the SHL, brings the point total to 1063, the most all time and one of only two players to break 1000, the other being the aforementioned Eriksson with 1012. No matter which way you slice it, Anarikkanen has an argument for the greatest player of all time in the SHL, and is therfore an obvious choice for the GOAT for the Calgary Dragons franchise.
