S56 mPT #2 - Behind the Player Name

The name Otis B. Driftwood has been worn far better and more memorably than by my humble, second player in the SHL. The Otis moniker was originated by none other than that true master of improvisation and comedy, Groucho Marx. Now knowing the relative youth of my fellow SHL brethren, I’m assuming most have either never heard of Groucho and the Marx Brothers, or know little more than the name. I would heartily recommend watching their films and reveling in the anarchy and humor therein. The actual name Otis B. Driftwood comes from the first of the films the brothers made for MGM, A Night at the Opera, having left their original studio, Paramount for the promise of greater money and fame made by studio head Irving Thalberg. For those inclined I recommend starting with the Paramount films as they most embody the pure chaos of the brothers as opposed to MGM’s more grandiose and complicated works.
