S56 PT #4 - HOF Snub

If you thought I wasn’t going to mention my own player being snubbed for HoF boy you were wrong. Alex Light, despite his lack of individual silverware, deserves to be in the Hall. Having spent his entire career with the West Kendall Platoon (now Baltimore Platoon), he retired with 900 games played and 726 points, a point per game total higher than a significant chunk of people in the hall around him. Having played with a group of players that all made it in (Zalleras Szlerchek, Bojo Biscuit, Beaujeaux Biscuit, Mikko Linna, Dani Forsberg, LKS), Alex Light was always in the shadow of a player on his team performing just a tiny bit better than him on a single season. And yet, Light has more points than most of them, through sheer consistency, as is shown by 15 consecutive seasons at 38 points or higher.
By the time Alex Light retired, he lifted 3 Challenge Cups, with 2 as team captain. He held team captaincy for 8 seasons, holds franchise records in multiple categories (goals, points, power play points to name a few). The only thing lacking for Light is individual silverware. Is he a Hall of Famer? Undoubtedly. Will he get into the Hall? I’m more and more doubtful of it as each season that passes, I have been getting less and less HoF ballot votes. And with big names becoming eligible in the near future, this coming off-season might be Light’s final chance at the Hall. (248 words) |
