The Purge is a concept where typically illegal things (e.g., robbery, murder) are legalized for one day. In an SHL-purge, there's a game day where everything typically illegal to do on the ice is now legal. No rules for sticks or pads, no penalties, no icing, etc. What will your player do on the ice to make the most of this and gain a competitive advantage? Kata Vilde has an interesting idea for the purge. He has contracted with a company to alter all his equipment to be outfitted with laser lights. And have a mini pack to control them based on motion sensors. What is the advantage of this do you say? Well quite simple any skater coming down will automatically have lasers pointed in their eyes and therefor not be able to see the net to get a quality shot. He can also focus it on the opposing teams goaltender blinding him so his own teammates will be able to shoot upon a vision impaired goaltender. Now hopefully this will lead to an advantage but I'm quite sure there are shooters in the SHL so good that they can get a shot on net even blinded. And the Calgary team will have to of course be accurate in their own shooting but a good goalie who has trained blind like VanDamme in Bloodsport may be able to stop the puck even while being blinded. All in all it should be a huge advantage to the Dragons. Code: 6. Written, 3 TPE (150 words min.) What's your prediction for this season's IIHF tournament? Which teams do you expect to do well (or not well)? Which players? Well the divisions in IIHF came out pretty unbalanced this time. Canada and Sweden should completely dominate Pool A with Germany probably being 3rd in that pool. With the other 4 teams being very weak in that pool I would expect to see the players from Canada and Sweden dominate the tops of the statistical charts. Pool B will probably be the US and Great Britain battling for the top spot. With the unprecedented transfer of 3 time IIHF best goaltender Kata Vilde to Latvia they may be poised to make a move and end up 3rd in a very competitive Group B. Ireland has sadly fallen from it's glory years and faces a long rebuild and Austria also has a new General Manager trying to get the team back to former glory days in IIHF seasons past. All in all it should be an intriguing tournament as always with very few surprises and the US and Canada continue to dominate having the largest player pools to pick their squads from. Code: 7. Written, 2 TPE (100 words min.) To some, an interesting part of sports leagues is following celebrity fans (like Jack with the Lakers or 50 Cent with the Knicks last week) - who would be some relevant SHL celebrity fans? Which well-known celebrities would be superfans of which SHL teams? Well of course the Calgary Dragons would have a pretty famous superfan. Heck the minor league team in Calgary, the Calgary Hitmen is even named after him. I'm talking of course about Brett the Hitman Hart. The Hart family are icons in Calgary and are especially well known in all the sporting arenas in the area. Kata Vilde has even been known in the offseason to train with the Hart family for his charity wrestling matches. The Harts always show up at these as well and Brett has on occasion been known to get in the ring for a brief match. And everyone in Calgary knows the Hart family of course so he always gets a huge reaction when he's shown on the Jumbotron in his family's private box in the Big Parm. Code: 15. Written, 2 TPE (100 words min.) If worst came to worst and the situation were dire....... you need nutrition....... you must consume your peers. If you had to eat another SHL player, who would you eat and why? (sorry in advance Julio) If the Calgary Dragons were ever in a soccer team plane crash scenario, the first person eaten would be Esa Parmborg. The dude is monstrous. He could feed the rest of the team for a couple weeks which would probably hold them over until a rescue. He probably wouldn't be too bad tasting either. Why do you ask? Simple, he'd probably taste like chicken from all the parms he consumes on a daily basis. And as a bonus he has alot of fat stored on him as well. The Dragons could use this to keep a fire going for warmth and to roast his parm saturated flesh over. So for Calgary this question is pretty much a no brainer. Code: 17.
