Most people don't know this, but Rage Against The Machine's "Take the Power Back" was initially titled "Take the Power Back from Gabe" and was originally a song about the Anchorage Armada.
You can see this when you analyse the lyrics a little more closely. In the first verse, they state "Lost the culture, the culture lost". Clearly, this line is a reference to the deterioration of the culture within the Armada since Gabe was appointed GM - something Gabe was rightly punished for by SMJHL HO. Throughout the song, the listener is told that "we gotta take the power back". This refers to the ever-present "Fire Gabe" movement within the team, and the constant struggle to reclaim the power Gabe unjustly holds over us. The song references how Gabe has indoctrinated the locker room, with the line "one-sided stories for years and years" - in cases like the punishment referenced above, Gabe told us that the punishment was overturned on appeal and SMJHL HO was no longer allowed to issue conduct punishments. But of course, Gabe would say that. Why isn't he telling us SMJHL HO's side of the story and all the terrible things he did? He must be stopped. (201 words) |
