Task #1
If Dirty Boots was not currently playing for the Detroit Falcons, He would be playing for the Newfoundland Berserkers. The biggest reason for this would be because Boots is from Newfoundland and would want to help bring a Four Star Cup back to his home. What better way to win an SMJHL championship than at home while playing for the home team! The Newfoundland Berserkers are already a standout team and have already established themselves as champions by winning the Four Star Cup in season 60. In order for Dirty Boots to be helpful to the Newfoundland Berserkers, I believe he would need to slot in a third pairing and use his defensive skills to shut down the Vancouver Whalers offence while looking for a breakout pass for team mates to score a breakaway goal. I believe that with the with the Newfie playing on the home team, this would increase the Berserkers chance of winning. Boots’ defensive and offensive abilities alone would make a great reliable addition on the third pair but he would also help in getting the fans going knowing there’s a true Newfie on the ice as well as in the stands. Task #3 The Detroit Falcons have a special treat for their fans during fan appreciation night this season. This season fans can expect to receive a special Bobble Butt figure of their favorite goal tender Hugh Jass! That’s right! A Hugh Jass Bobble Butt figure! Hugh Jass has been absolutely HUGE in every game this season keeping the Falcons in it until the very end. What better way to commemorate his greatness than with your very own Bobble Butt Figurine! Come early enough and get the exclusive net display case to keep your Hugh Jass in! This Bobble Butt figure will be available for one night only so be sure to make it to the game! Task #4 Hello Sports Fans! In today’s Column we are looking at the matchup in net between two amazing goalies in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League and how they square up against each other! That’s right we’re looking at Olof Karsikko of the Vancouver Whalers and Nor Dekes of the Quebec City Citadels. Karsikko and Dekes are only a win apart heading into the playoffs and each have big expectations from their teams. Dekes has faced more shots during the season and could arguably be number one in terms of stats but Karsikko sits at the top with his extra win. If it comes down directly to the goalie to win games I’m putting money on Dekes to take it home. They’re clearly able to get the job done without their defense in front of them. But if Quebec is going to leave their goalie out to dry all playoffs than maybe they won’t be the favorite to take the cup this year. We’ll see if it’s the reliable defense getting the job done or if these goalies truly are superstars. Task #5 The Detroit Falcons are incredibly thankful to their fan base and proud to be part of Detroit! As a way to give back to the community, the Detroit Falcons partnered with the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League are proud to be supporting and raising money for the LGBTQ+ community of Detroit! The Falcons will be organizing a twenty four hour gaming marathon designed to raise awareness, share stories and interact with the community. The SMJHL has approved the Falcons to allow a twenty four hour stream starting at 8AM EST during the event. During the stream, all of your Detroit Falcons will be participating in playing games with fans, speaking with members and representatives of the LGBTQ+ community as well as hearing from fans either through a live chat on the stream as well as taking calls to hear their stories if they are willing to share! The stream will be moderated in order to create a safe environment for everyone. The Falcons also intend on having prizes every hour to give away to fans as well as possible goal achievements. Be sure to tune in and play along with your Detroit Falcons as we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community! Task #6 A dream team would be easily acquired if the Newfoundland Berserkers and the Vancouver Whalers are the teams to pick from! The superstar forward line would consist of: Robert Black, Center, 81 points. Lev Lebedev, Left Winger, 75 points Robot Sunfish, Right Winger, 61 Points Robert Black, superstar center of the Berserkers, could support the Vancouver Whalers wingers Lebedev and Sunfish. Expect Black to put on a playmaking show while Lebedev and Sunfish tuck the puck to the back of the net. It would be unfair to the rest of the league to have these forwards lined up together. The superstar defense lineup would be: NeverBrokeAgain YoungBoy, Right Defenseman, 60 points Sabarro Torreta, Left Defenseman, 51 points YoungBoy’s offensive skills on the blue line would easily compliment the crazy offense from the forwards, meanwhile Torreta, who can easily hold his own in offense as well, would be crushing opposing players throwing hits on anyone they see. Finally, the goalie to keep the pucks out would be: Olof Karsikko Olof held his own this season with 42 wins and an amazing 0.913% save percentage. With Karsikko in net, the superstar forwards and defenseman would have the confidence needed to give it all they’ve got. Task #7 During the SMJHL playoffs, I believe that if the matchups had been slightly different, the results would have changed. The Quebec City Citadels could have been matched up against anybody and won. They were a very strong team coming into the playoffs and proved that by being a tough match for the Newfoundland Berserkers in the Semi Finals. Had the Detroit Falcons faced another team like the St. Louis Scarecrow, not only would it have been a great rivalry matchup but the Falcons would have put up a tough fight and may have even taken them to seven games and won the series. I also believe that Regina and Anaheim would have made for a great matchup as well. Regina failed to win a game against Kelowna so if they were two weaker teams they may have had different results. Anchorage and Kelowna both won their series so it would have been interesting to see who of the two could have come out on top of that series. That leaves us with Great Falls versus Quebec City. Both teams won their series and I believe they would have made for a very competitive matchup. With these matchups in mind, I believe it would have gone like this: Detroit vs St. Louis - Detroit wins Regina vs Anaheim - Regina Wins Anchorage vs Regina - Kelowna Wins Great Falls vs Quebec City - Quebec City Wins Task #8 My very first season in the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League has been completed and overall I believe that I performed very well for a true rookie here! I came into the league hoping to log decent minutes and to get as many assists as possible and to overall contribute to the team without being too much of a liability. I feel like I’ve achieved nearly all of that! At the start of the season I was falling behind defensively but as I grew every week I was able to become more reliable in my end. Once I started becoming more reliable, I started getting more points as well. I was able to reach thirty six points in my first season, 26 assists and 10 goals. The 26 assists was enough to make me 3rd in assists on the team which was a great accomplishment! I was also third on the team in shots blocked with 114, only 3 points behind the two leaders tied at 117. With only seven power play points I’d really like to improve there, especially if I aim to quarterback the first power play group. Task #9 My favorite series of the playoffs this season was the Detroit Falcons versus the Quebec City Citadels. It may be because I’m on the Detroit team but I truly believe it was a great series that had even more great potential. The Falcons came into the playoffs with very low expectations and they ended up squaring off against one of the top teams in the league. Game one ended with a Quebec City win. Game two ended with another Quebec City win. Game three ended in, surprise, another Quebec City win. Game four was for sure to be the sweep but Detroit came to life. They beat Quebec City in game four. They stood their ground and beat them again in game five! It was starting to look like a huge upset. Game six was incredibly close. Hugh Jass was amazing in net but unfortunately it wasn’t quite enough before Quebec eventually found the back of the net to end it. For a team that struggled through the season they definitely made things exciting! Task #10 The Detroit Falcons were eliminated from the first round of the Simulation Major Junior Hockey League. Despite the loss there are no frowny faces in Detroit. They didn’t go down without a fight and that definitely says something about the future of the team. There were many rookies on the team this year that made a statement. A new defenseman in Dirty Boots who is able to contribute to the offense as well as keep things shut down defensively. A very bright Right winger in Akashi SixNine Jr who tallied 40 points in the season showing they can also contribute to the team offensively. Detroit also has a machine in Vasily Arkhangelsky. Vasily absolutely crushed his opponents with 175 points which is enough for second in the SMJHL. A major accomplishment from a rookie looking to throw fists and body! Detroit also has more reliable center depth with Rodrigo Rivic. Rivic had a fantastic start to his career with twenty six points. Another huge piece and possibly the biggest asset would be Hugh Jass. Jass has kept this team in games they didn’t deserve to be in. Jass had the highest shots against in the league but was still able to put up a fantastic save percentage! If the Falcons can become more stable defensively there’s no doubt that with Jass in net they can become champions. Detroit has the first overall pick in the upcoming draft and will be adding more to their already bright future. With their solid existing core there’s no doubt that the Detroit Falcons will be on the rise and will be a contending team very soon. Task #11 Although the Detroit Falcons didn’t make it past the first round this season, Boots is still finding ways to develop and look forward to the SHL draft. Boots is getting more accustomed to the league and how things are done. This would include getting familiar with all the possible destinations to get drafted to in the SHL and what their needs are. In some cases Boots is also looking at the history of the teams and who would be a good fit for his style and level of play. Once Boots has done the research and has taken a healthy break from skates and stick work, Boots will be hitting up the gym on a regular basis to get stronger and faster as well as looking at idols and role models that he’d like to model his game after. Boots will be hitting up his local arena and getting some off season coaching done to work on skills that will make them a more reliable defenseman as well as hand eye coordination to make the quarterback passes that really count. One of Boots’ goals is to quarterback a power play group. In order to help accomplish that goal, Boots will be watching video of himself in order to fix mistakes made during play as well as watching video of successful power plays and how he can fit that success into his own game.
