The most tense has to be the tie game situation, be it as a player, coach, spectator, heck, even a referee. It isn't so bad early on in the course of a game, but the later a game goes, the more tense the atmosphere comes. Especially when you get into overtime situations, when every single shot the team you don't want to win makes your blood pressure spike and your heart jump a little bit, because it feels like every single shot is going to go in. It is even worse to have overtime in a playoff or otherwise important game, and the deeper you get into overtime, the more you start to think that it just will not work out for you like you would like it to. When you get deeper into the playoffs, or even just a playoff round, it gets worse and worse. God forbid if you have a Game 7 overtime that goes multiple extra frames.
