Obviously, Hamilton have more depth, so they can rotate their guys in and out more. But I can’t fault Los Angeles for getting their best guys on the ice as much as possible. They are outmatched if they try and go toe to toe, so I applaud them for their strategy. I would to the same thing if I was LAP GM. b. Well, the easiest way to prevent blocks is quick puck movement and counter attacking. If you can get odd man breaks, then you can pass around the bodies and get open looks. I know, it’s a lot more simple to say “just get fast breaks” than actually doing it against defenders like O’Shea and Giannopoulos, but it needs to be a point of emphasis for Los Angeles. c. I love what Los Angeles has been doing with their defenders. So remember all that stuff I said in Part B? Yes, forget it. If any team can break down the HAM defensive, it’s LAP with their ultra attacking defenders doing some heavy lifting in the offensive zone. I think HAM can take advantage of this by the fact they block so many shots. These could lead to fast breaks for HAM as LAP pours deep into the zone. d. Goalies are typically psychopaths, so I don’t think you can mentally get in their heads by being cheeky and spraying them with ice or being aggressive and “accidentally” bumping them. That will only turn them into bigger monsters. Physical warfare won’t work. You need to get mental. Start by sending him flowers from a mystery woman. Then alert their wives of said transgressions. She’ll put the pieces together and he will have serious family issues going on in his head. Hard to stay focused when your marriage is falling apart. Code: 12. You can’t just look at one team having a miraculous run and point to it as parity solved. Leicester City won the Premier League a few seasons ago and no one claiming that league has parity. Sure the middle of the table is fun, but it is and always will be Man City’s. Same applies here. Let’s see how the next 3-4 seasons go. How about we get a final four without HAM, TEX, CHI, or BUF. Then we can talk about parity. I think we are starting to see glimpses of parity when you look at the win totals. Young teams are making pushes for playoffs (go Atlanta!), but there is still a long way to go before we can say it is solved. I do think we’re getting there and I’m hopeful for the future of the league. It’s more fun when every team as a (albeit) slight chance. But it's a fine line, you don’t want a March Madness free for all approach as the best teams will get frustrated by never winning. But the long shots need to have an actual long shot, not a 0.0000001% chance. Code: Code: I heard you folks like the word parity. Well have I got the league for you! Join the ISLF (and include me as your recruiter). We have parity for everyone. Pretty much every team has a chance to win it all in this league. Sure, the best teams have a higher percentage of winning, but percentages don’t really matter when it’s just a one-off game. No series where the best team always wins. The ISFL is a bare-knuckle brawl for the title every season. You could be the worst team in the league one season and make the final the next season. Just ask the Orange County Otters as they achieved that feat just last season. Sure, they lost to a super team who signed all the best free agents, but hey, they at least had a shot at the title. That’s more than you can say for any team here. So join the ISFL and be sure to list Z-Whiz as your recruiter. |
