Hockey Prompt - European Take Edition
Fighting in hockey is an almost strictly North American thing, never really was part of the game in Europe (unless we count the UK, and we don't) and any and all assumed "benefits" other than entertainment of fighting fall flat when you take into account that the things that supposedly happen more without enforcers, don't actually happen more in European hockey where fighting isn't a thing. Just as dirty hits weren't magically less common in the NHL back when enforcers "kept their stars safe". The whole narrative doesn't make any sense, never has made any sense. And never will make any sense. Most dirty hits don't happen because a player is actively trying to play dirty. They happen because that player is a goddamn idiot and hockey is a fast game, probably too fast for said player to consistently make decisions that aren't dangerously stupid. Him getting punched in the face repeatedly won't make him any smarter. If anything it will have the opposite effect. |
