If coach wants someone to fight, mr. William Salming definitely is not the guy who does it. He has never fought and will never be. Why? Because he wants to stay on the ice. That way he can help his team to win hockey games by scoring points and defending well. From the penalty box he can not do that. That's why William Salming doesn't fight. He could land a hard hit but not a fight because hard hit could send a message too. You don't need to fight to wake up your team if you are down by five goals in a home-opener. That is a simple true. Salming is actually really bad taking penalties too. As a younger kid, he played multiple seasons without a single penalty. He defends hard but cleanly. A coach's dream, you could say. Right? Huh? Yes. Fighting is overrated. You can send a message via hard hit too.
