S71 SMJHL PT #7 - One Season at a Time

I'm pretty happy with how my first SMJHL season went. Cheeks arrived at Anchorage at the perfect time and stepped in to contribute immediately. He was able to fill his role well, being a solid two-way defenseman who contributed both offensively, defensively, and physically whenever the time called for it. In 39 games, Cheeks scored 5 goals and notched 18 assists with the highest + rating of +5 on the team. He also blocked 23 shots and notched 72 hits with 33 takeaways to just 14 giveaways. While he'll look to improve upon each of those statistics as a sophomore in the SMJHL, it's a good start for a young defenseman, especially having just converted from being a forward. He'll need to be able to not just be a positive impact on the ice, but make his impact significant. Settling for just ok isn't good enough in such a cutthroat development league. With SHL teams calling as well, growing each season will be extremely important if he wants a chance to play at the highest level.
