Task 3: Winnipeg making the Challenge Cup Finals four seasons consecutively has been an incredible feat caused by firstly roster construction and continuity. Their first Cup Finals team and their most recent Cup Finals team (and champions) have 12 skaters and their starting goaltender in both rosters. These roster players were also at the peak of their TPE and were max earners. In Season 69, all but four skaters were under 1500 TPE, with seven skaters over 1800 TPE and a 2K club member. While these players were regressing between each of the Aurora's four Cup Finals appearances, the sheer amount of TPE the players had made the Aurora keep in contention. The other factor outside of Winnipeg's roster construction were that the other Western Conference contenders during Seasons 69-72 were transitioning from contention to rebuilding. Seattle and Calgary finished 2nd and 3rd respectively in Season 69, and as of Season 72 have completely teared down their rosters to rebuild. Task 5: Winnipeg likely has this season and maybe next season to continue their contention window before they have to scrap this corps. Signs were already showing in the regular season, as they only won the Western Conference and Central Division off of a tiebreaker against Chicago. Younger players like James Ward-Prowse and Sydney Shaw on the roster might be able to stem the bleeding slightly, but any way you slice it a team with 13 players in regression is on a very loud ticking clock. New England on the other hand has much more length in terms of contention with how much younger their roster is. Five players on their roster are from Season 67-69, and with them coming into their peak TPE seasons over the rest of the decade will last longer than Winnipeg excluding severe FA losses. New England also has a flux of prospects right behind this younger group that will continue to reinforce the New England roster as the older parts of their roster regress.
