After watching and reading about how well the PWHL has implemented the “power kill,” that would be my choice to change a current rule for hockey. For those that don’t know, if a team on the penalty kill scores, the power play is over. It, in my mind, encourages teams to utilize their top players on the penalty and truly ride the horses that are usually their best options. Power play teams have to be aware of more options when playing and it wouldn’t discourage teams from attempting to score on the power play either. I think it’s something that is all together a minor change in terms of rule, but one that would change the way penalty kills would be run going forward. It would likely also improve scoring and exciting moments in games, something that most leagues are always trying to encourage and develop, all without having to shrink goalie gear. Again.
