James wanted to put in just as much work as the executives who came up with the idea for the movie did, so he makes a slasher flick. Except, instead of slashing with a machete or anything like that, it's the slashing penalty in hockey. So the antagonist, played by James himself, is a thug on the ice who feels wronged by his opponents on the ice and takes his revenge using hockey equipment. The rest of the cast consists of James's teammates on the Calgary Dragons, since they're right there. The away team locker room in Calgary's arena serves as the perfect cheap set, and all of the effects are equally cheesy. James mostly uses it as an excuse to have end of filming day parties, drinking beers and eating snacks with his teammates. That'll show those higher ups to keep thrusting these esoteric tasks on James without any further effort from themselves.
