There are 4 clear candidates for me that can win this MVP award. Each person provides something unique to their team. My shortlist of 4 players are Valtteri Pulkkinen, May O'Nayse, Doug Weight, and Cristoforo Roccamontepiano. These 4 players are spread between 2 teams; Maine and Quebec. These were the two most dominant teams of the league so it makes sense the MVP will likely go to one of them.
Valtteri was the top goal scorer of the season and placed #3 in total points. They are one of the key players on Maine. For many, this top goal scorer is the favourite to win it all. Next up we have May. He placed #3 in goals, #2 in points and was #1 in shots leading by almost 60 over #2. May is a player who generated offense at an alarmingly high rate, they were just inefficient (or unlucky) with their shots. He is another key player to Maine's offensive prowess. Maine's third player I want to highlight is Doug. While Doug wasn't known for scoring goals, he was an incredibly good passer and lead the league in assists with 79. He is likely one of the key reasons the other 2 people on this list were able to score and put up so many shots. Doug is absolutely vital for Maine's offense to run smoothly. Finally, we have Cristoforo, Quebec's star player. He was #2 in goals, #2 in assists, #1 in points, was more efficient in their shots than the other 2 goal scorers on this list and most importantly: he lead the league in power play goals with 25 and he had 9 more than #2. He is clinical. Without Cristoforo, Quebec simply wouldn't be the best team. He is the best player on the best team, therefore he should win the MVP award. |
