I might be a bit biased on this one, but my pick would be Cristoforo Roccamontepiano (what a name to begin with!). He's close to the top on both the assist and goal rankings, is a real threat on the power play and has developed great chemistry with his linemates Andrea Morandi and Randolph Thomson-Smythe (that whole line sounds like the main characters from an old school cloak-and-dagger movie). His game and statistics have improved consistently and significantly over the past seasons and he now has reached his junior prime to be one of the most dominant players in the SMJHL. The defensive side of his game also improved quite a bit as he's more willing to throw a hit or block a shot, which his teammates really appreciate. The Edmonton Blizzard can considers themselves lucky to have drafted this skilled Italian kid. The sky is the limit!

Valtteri Pulkkinen
The likely front-runner, Pulkkinen is tied for most points in the league and has a decent margin for most goals. Of the players with a similar point total Pulkkinen has the best game rating, combining high-end offense without as much sacrifice in the defensive end as other snipers. The high GF/60 and low GA/60 combined with an average PDO tell the story of a player who is dominating without getting lucky, it’s all effort.

Doug Weight
Linemate of Pulkkinen. Weight is tied in point with Pulkkinen but is getting most of theirs through assists. What Weight is missing in goals can be made up by being the best faceoff taker in the whole league, by quite some margin too. The higher GA/60 than Pulkkinen does make the case a bit harder but PDO of 97.4 does tell that Weight is getting a bit unlucky on the ice.

Cristoforo Roccamontepiano
The only player not on Maine to be over 80 points this season so far. Roccamontepiano is only a few goals behind Pulkkinen and has led the campaign for Quebec which has done a lot better than expected. While not having as high GF/60 as the other two candidates, the much lower GA/60 makes up for that. If the voters put weight on team standings, Quebec City Citadles lead the league for now which would help Roccamontepiano's case for League MVP.

The current MVP race for the J's in the S79 season has recently changed.

For a majority of the season QCC's Cristoforo Roccamontepiano was leading the way in points for the league and seemed like the early favourite to capture the MVP of the season, they were having dominant performances showing casing their offense capability.

However recently, the Maine Timber's Doug Weight has exploded offensively (Maine as a whole as well) has really turned things up and is showing why they have been one of the top teams in the SMJHL for a while now. I would not want to face Maine in the playoffs as they are looking to show they are a force to be reckoned with Doug Weight leading way for them.

If I had to personally a choose an MVP for the regular season, my vote would go to QCC's Cristoforo Roccamontepiano (as me and the user Matteo go way back to our days in the Chicago Syndicate when he was on Mat Smith).

Greyson Willis:
Although he might be my Arch-Nemesis who sucks and doesn't know what the word "defense" is, he is still a pretty good player on the ice. He brings a passing ability to the ice that really benefit his fellow team mates with great goal opportunities and he's also just doing really good for a rookie who's not even a recreate. Before getting moved down to the 2nd line, Willis and his teammate Kim Chaewon were playing really good together and we both leading points.

Cristoforo Roccamontepiano:
Currently 2nd in goals and 2nd in assists, Cristoforo Roccamontepiano has been playing great for the Quebec City Citadels and is probably a good reason for there current first place record in the North. He brings an impact to his team with his ability to not only put the puck on net, but to also put it in front of the net for his teammates to tip in onto an unsuspecting goalie.

Valtteri Pulkkinen:
Currently leading both goals and points, you can tell that Valtteri Pulkkinen has been playing really good. After a slow start for the timber, they have skyrocket and along with that, their players stats have also skyrocket. Leading points with half of those points being from goals (Exactly 50%! in comparison to 2nd points leader, Doug Weight, where 30.4% of his points are from goals) is a incredible feat for such a player on a top tier team.

Here are my 3, in no particular order:

Duke Howard RW QCC
50 GP, 76 P with 73 coming at even strength (more EVP than Cristofor who has 57)
Lowest PP time in the top 15 point getters.
Leads team in SF/60 (1.6 better than second)
Leads team in GF/60
Leads team in Fenwick and Corsi

Duke Howard is a machine. This man, woman, child, or beast has one job and that is putting up points. Even though the other point leaders are getting more PP time (and by a lot) Duke is more than holding his own. He's holding the puck the most on his team and is putting it on net at an astounding rate.

Valterri Pulkkinen LW MET
49GP , 46G, 46A for 92P
~1.88P/GP pace
+37
Leads team in GF/60
Tied for team lead in SF/60
Leads LEAGUE in goals by 6!

Valterri is a goal scoring machine, if someone told me that they just sat at the Ovechkin spot all game and wired one-timers I'd believe them. The next closest player in the league for goals sits 6 goals behind Valterri which is crazy. Valterri is no slouch defensive side sporting a team best +37, +9 better than the next best. It's not only the fact that Valterri leads his team in these stats, it's that he leads them by such a wide margin.

Walbilly Koala RW CAR
50GP
72P, 24G, 48A
Next best on team sitting at 54P
Leads SF/60 on team (ahead by 1.1SF/60)
Tied for lead in GA/60
Second in team Fenwick and Corsi

The MVP is often just awarded to the best player in the league. But, if we decide on what it's called, the Most Valuable Player then Walbilly Koala is a great candidate. They have great , but not best in class, points. This is more impressive once you realize that the next best point getters on CAR sit at 54P. That is just 6 more than Koala's total assists, they're putting this team on his back. They are getting more pucks to the net by a large margin, great defensively since they're tied in GA/60 and have great possession numbers. I believe Koala is carrying his team more than any other point leader currently and as such is deserving of the MVP award.

I mean, listen. If it's not the GOATed name himself, Cristoforo Roccamontepiano, then I don't know who it could be. Let's rhyme off a couple of stats for the haters (should there be any, I don't know how you hate that name)

- 91 points (3rd in the SMJHL)
- 40 goals (2nd in the SMJHL)
- 51 assists (2nd in the SMJHL)
- 17 powerplay goals (1st in the SMHL)
- 34 EV Assists (4th in the SMJHL)

This guys is the absolute face of the best team in the SMJHL, and shows zero signs of slowing down or letting up. At one point this season, he was on a 17 game point streak. He's the leading point scorer on the team with highest goal differential. His goals for per 60 is almost 6. For my advanced stat lovers, he's 3rd in Corsi % and 10th in Fenwick For %.

The best player in the league, on the best team in the league, and he's the driving force of their success? Sounds like an MVP to me. He's 100% my pick for MVP.

If you don't like him, the Valtteri Pulkkinen or Doug Weight are the other 2 options, for sure. Maine had a slow start to the season this year, and these 2 decided that was good enough, threw the team on their back, and have RAMPAGED through the league to drag the Timber to 3rd overall. MVP material to me, and they should 100% be in the conversation.

Tiny Princess (COL)
While this guy may be an absolutely colossal bum, and on a terrible team, Tiny Princess is a defensive beast. I know, his stats might not be the flashiest or scream MVP, but the award is about the player most valuable to their team. This guy's defensive ability is not to be understated, and has contributed to his team's (moderate) success.

Cristoforo Roccamontepiano (QCC)
I mean, come on. This guy has been absolutely lights out all season. I don't think I can recall a single point all year where I didn't see this guy's name in the top 3 of goals, assists, and points. Rocky (as I don't feel like typing out his full last name) has been a major part of Quebec City's success this season, and is a genuine top candidate for MVP.

Doug Weight (MET)
Another player who has been having a stellar season, Weight currently leads the league in points. His team boasts an impressive 35-17-1 record, and while that may be the "worst" record out of the three mentioned teams, it is still good enough for 5th in the league.

1. Cristoforo Roccamontepiano
Cristoforo is maybe one of the most impactful offensive players. With 42 goals (3rd) and 53 assists (3rd), he has 95 points (2nd), showcasing his ability to score and create opportunities for his teammate. His 17 power-play goals (1st) highlight his efficiency in many crucial moments for his team. His +37 plus-minus also maybe shows his defensive contribution (or teams effort of course). Able to play effectively for himself and his teammates, Cristoforo is a key asset and a potential MVP for this league !

2. Valtteri Pulkkinen
Valtteri is the league’s top scorer with 47 goals (1st) and ranks 3rd in points (95), confirming his consistent offensive presence. With 284 shots (16.5%, good shooting %), he keeps constant pressure on opposing defenses, and his 14 power-play goals make him a reliable threat in special situations (possibly something to ameliorate in the future). His offensive leadership is crucial, making him indispensable for his team’s competitiveness.

3. Duke Howard
Duke excels in both offense and defense, with 34 goals, 49 assists, and 83 points (5th). His +52 plus-minus (1st) is the highest in the league, proving his impact on both ends of the ice. With 148 hits (3rd), he brings a physical dimension that helps his team control the game’s pace. Duke seems to be versatile, consistent, and reliable in key moments, making him an essential player for his team.

It's been a good regular season for the SMJHL! And so now's the time to figure out who should be the MVP for the season.

Option 1- Baron Samedi

Barron Samedi is second in the league in goals and 6th in the league in points. The most impressive thing he's done is that he's leading his team in scoring by quite a large margin. Not only does he have almost 20 more goals than he's next placed teammate, but he also is only a few assists behind his team leader in assists.
His strong play has lead to his team being 3rd place in the league

Option 2- Valtteri Pulkkinen

Hard to have an mvp conversation without including the leagues top goal scorer. With 47 goals on the season and only one point behind the point leader with 96 points, Valtteri has help position his team strong, being 5th in the league

Option 3- Cristoforo Rocccamontepiano

Cristoforo has had an outstanding season, with his strong two way play, he's managed to help position his team in the best possible spot, 1st in the league!

When thinking about league MVP, the primary consideration should be to look at who specifically is making great teams great. Who is the player taking a good team into great territory? What makes the great team great: is it their offense, defense, goaltending, or a combination of these? One needs to look no further than the top of the SMJHL standings, namely Quebec City and Carolina.

Looking into Quebec City, it's clear that they have a solid mix between being a defensive powerhouse (lowest GA in the league) and offensive powerhouse (second highest GF in the league). It's tough to pin it down on one specific player. If I had to choose, I would nominated center Cristoforo Roccamontepiano as he has above and beyond the most points on the team and Peter for being on the top of the +/- stat for the entire league, leading the defensive powerhouse side of Quebec City's success.

Looking into Carolina, their success is more found in winning many close games. I would have to nominate Walbilly Koala for clearly leading Carolina's points production.

I have decided to pick a forward, defender, and goalie for this project. Honestly, it is probably going to go to a forward but I wanted to look across all positions.

Valtteri Pulkkinen - Left Wing for Maine

Leading the league in goals and second overall in points Pulkkinen is having a MVP caliber year. Positioned to potentially be the only player to reach 50 goals he has to be considered as a front runner. If he can keep his numbers up and finish top of the league in goals and points the award will probably be theirs.

Boofa Benson - Right Defense for Maine

Benson leads the league in blocks and has helped play a strong defensive game. This combined with his 30 point season this far puts him into the conversation for sure.

Meowlnir Kittenson - Goalie for Colorado

With the highest save percentage and highest goalie rating Kittenson has a lead in the goalie category. With 1200 shots against he has put up strong numbers

I’ve got Cristoforo Roccamontepiano as the front runner. Absolute beast of a point getter. Elite getting into the zone. Skating everywhere around the ice.

Doug Weight…. Look as a teammates. Dude is a stud. You can’t beat it. He’s one of the best two way player. Elite play has a 360 view around the ice. No way you can beat someone who can really just player everywhere on the ice and be as dynamic as he is.

Valtteri Pulkkinnen. What a player. I mean elite shot. Bullet of a shot, can’t miss. Dynamite hands, skating, puckhandling. Driving the puck to the net. 1,000% just an all around pure offensive powerhouse. Not even a chance to defend him. You can only try to limit him to a goal a game, and you most likely get 5 goals scored on you in the game still. Also on a team that’s taking over the SMJHL right now. You can’t beat this team and it’s lead by the great Pulkkinnen.
