This season hasn't been an easy one for us Whalers, but we ended on a much higher note, stringing together a few wins. Going into the playoffs we are without a doubt the underdogs. In fact if we're being honest, underdogs doesn't even feel like a strong enough word.
If we're going to pull off an upset for the ages our preparation has to be multifaceted. First is the mental side. We can't be intimidated by our opponents' record or individual stats. We have to believe that we have it in us to pull this off. Along with that comes a need for team unity. I'm happy to say that hasn't been a problem at all this year and despite everything this locker room is as close as one could be. We all support and believe in each other. The other facet of our preparation comes on the ice in practice, and it's about ironing out the little mistakes that good teams seize and capitalize on. Penalty kill is also going to be a huge part of this series so we really need to make sure we understand our assignments and rotations. If we can keep their special teams off the board we have a real shot, albeit a small one, of pulling this off. |
