2. Looking Towards the Future: (462 words)
Coming off a cup win most teams tend to shed a lot of talent, not the case for Quebec. Only a single player, Nor Ge is graduating to the SHL. Ge was a solid point-per-game wing who contributed primarily in 5-on-5 play and the second units of special teams. An offensive first wing who relied on physical traits and offense, the production needs to be replaced. Quebec has several wings that could step in to replace the spot. Duke Howard or Randolph Thompson-Smythe could step in and fill the void if the team wants to take players who are entering 425 TPE thresholds. If they want to convert a center then Dejana Kaptina looks like a good fit to move. If they want to look to the rookies then the speedster Shiny Rainbow could make sense in the role. The defensive core is led by Peter who was the only 425 TPE back last season. They will remain with the team for their finals season now but they are not alone anymore. Aslak Hestnes will join as a 425 TPE blueliner and the 6’9 Tower called Anatolyi Tarasov could also get to the 425 cap now in their final SMJHL season. Rodwin Dionicio, Lewis Holl, and Uwe Bindewald, all rookies entering their second year look set to take the immediate step to the 350 cap and give Quebec very good depth on the blueline. Even their style will fit well, Holl and Bindewald are both much more defensive anchors who can hold down any attack while Dionicio fills the two-way offensive playdriver that compliments well with either. In the crease we have (in my opinion the playoff MVP QCCBOT4) and Ela Solberg. Both netminders are now entering their 3rd season meaning that Quebec should see an overall improvement in every aspect from their goalie department this season. It’s possible Quebec can run a tandem of two 425 TPE goalies who can play as 1A/1B. At forwards the only loss we have gone over. The rest of the core is still here remaining at 425 or growing. At a glance and with an in-depth look you can find that the Quebec roster is actually going to become stronger next season. No matter what areas you look at it’s improvements across the boards, from net, to blueline, to forwards. With the luxury of a virtually complete roster, it gives the GMs the ability to draft the best available and completely ignore positions or builds. Looking at the long term it is likely we will see many forwards drafted as after next season several forwards are graduating leaving holes that need to be filled. With another great draft class, Quebec can continue to keep at the pace and challenge for another few seasons minimum. 6. Team History: (196 words) Quebec City Citadels was an expansion team in S55 along with the Nevada Battle Born. It Only took 2 seasons for Quebec to really get going finishing 1st in the regular season for the first time of many to come. Only took 1 more season to win their first Four Star Cup defeating Kelowna in the S58 finals. Quebec was a mainstay in the 3rd round or later in the late 50’s and early 60’s seasons. With a bit of a rebuild there, in S62-63 Quebec was back in the finals S64 but lost. 2 more finals appearances ended in losses S66 and S67. In S69 Quebec broke through and won the cup as the lowest seed to ever win the Four Star Cup since earliest S53. A bit of a decline there in the S70’s but come the last few seasons Quebec once again won S76 and S79. In the 24 seasons Quebec has existed they have made 8 finals, winning 4 of them. Add in all the conference finals appearances that ended in loss and Quebec has one of the most winning records since the team was created. Not bad if you ask me. Total: 658 words 18.
