It has been a long held debate within the SHL community, both inside and outside of the award committees for either leagues, how to best evaluate the most valuable player in the league. Although it often ends up going to one of the top scorers in the league, there are a lot who believe a high-scoring player in a high-scoring team is not as valuable as a player who scores a bit less, but is much further ahead when compared to the rest of their team. This season, Cristoforo Roccamontepiano has both, being the top scorer in the league with currently 11 points ahead of the next player, and almost 20 points on the next player on his team. Removing that player would remove a high value of points from the team. Yet there are indeed 4 other players from his team in the top 15 of the league, so there is indeed a case to be made that the team would do fine, if not as good, without him. A player like Kim Chaewon, 8th in points but carrying Carolina in even more impressive fashion to the 3rd place in the standings, is definitely worth considering as well.
