While the three stars went to others tonight, Armada goalie Ian Venables came up huge in a game where the defense did not have their best night. Venables stopped 42 of the 45 shots that came his way and pulled through in the shootout to give himself and Anchorage a critical win at home. The only goals allowed by him were two from Danny Marston and one from Ruslan Zaporozhets, both of which are top line forwards. The secondary scoring from the bottom 9 and defense were non-existent, but not for lack of trying. Sasha Dangelchek personally had seven shots, but Venables robbed him each and every time. Venables came up large in the third period stopping three straight shots in the span of eight seconds and then corralling the rebound to end the threat. In the shootout, once again Venables was stellar when it mattered. After Daniel Bischoff scored to make it 2-1 in the shootout in the second round, it was up to the goalie to slam the door shut. James Ronlain attempted to go five hole, but Venables squeezed the pads in time and gave the Armada a well-deserved shootout win.
