S55 SMJHL Championship Week
#28

Task #2 – 2 TPE

After the first few games, I talked to our merchandising director in Anchorage about an article I wanted to push and promote, a spiral-bound notebook. The cover has the logo all over it, and the faces of this years rookie class are on it too. The reason was easy, I wanted to make it easier for the scouts to remember what guys they have to watch. That way, they get reminded who the really important players are on the ice for them. Though I‘m not sure how many scouts bought the notebook in the end. But the spiral-bound notebook is seen in every class in each and every school in the surrounding of Anchorage. And of course I have one for myself.

Task#4 – 3 TPE

In my home-village in Austria, I‘m also a member of the volunteer fire brigade. At the moment, we are renovating and extending the fire station, as it‘s already pretty old and it got way to small for a proper use. To fund it, we made a charity event before the start of the season. It was a big barbeque to help raise some money. In my village, I‘m of course well known, as everyone knows everyone and the news already spread, that I‘ll start my very first season in the SMJHL. As I was just entering the first season, there wasn‘t much I could do to help raise the funds, but it was a fun event. When I came to Anchorage, I immediately tried to get into contact with the local fire brigade, as it is something I really care about. I attended another charity event there, to help raise the awareness for the heroes in read. In Anchorage, it was far more a factor that I was there, as many kids took the chance and attended this event. I think on that day, the fire brigade found some new fans and maybe future helpers, because I attended it. I‘ll definitely continue to support them.

Task #5 – 3 TPE

My dream team of the finalists this year:
Goalie – Leo Bloomfield: It‘s a tough shot between Cale Amundsen and Leo Bloomfield, but Bloomfield gets the nod. Amundsen had a slightly better regular season, but since playoffs started, Bloomfield popped off.

LD – Mikkel Asmus Sondergard: Sondergard scored 30 points this season, out of them are 22 assists. That‘s a defender you like to have, being a threat in the offense and playing really well on defense. He got an average defensive grade of 74.

RD – Tinke Jutila: Jutila had a very impressive +26 this season, and scored 22 points. He has only 14 giveaways and recorded 25 takeaways. That‘s a player you can rely on.

LW – Kyle Sutton: He is the leader of the Timber. He scored 20 goals and 21 assists, I think any team would be happy if they could call him their player.

C – Mats Marner: No way around building a dream team and not taking Mats Marner as your center. He‘s most probably going to win MVP this season, with 32 goals and 30 assists.

RW – Ryuuji Minamino: Marner‘s genious partner is Minamino, who was the one who came closest to him. The most assists in the league, he is just too good to replace him with any other player on any roster.

Task #6 – 3 TPE
We in Anchorage played the best season in the West. We battled with Kelowna for the first place, and with a strong finish we set apart and only finished three points behind the #1 team in the league. Now that we don‘t follow the East-West separation in the playoffs anymore, we got to play the Maine Timber after our first round bye. They finished 3rd in the East with 53 points. That‘s league wide only the 6th place, tied with the Anaheim Outlaws. Taking a look at the standings and thinking about a playoff in each conference first, we would have faced the Outlaws, if 4 teams make the playoffs and face each other, as we would have been the #1 seed vs #4. But the mode is another one. It doesn‘t matter, we should have won the duell against Maine either way, with the seasons we played up to then. We outshot them in every game, and even led the series already with 3-1. Bloomfield turned into a beast and didn‘t let us score anymore, whereas Scoochie turned his MVP worthy regular season around and wasn‘t able to keep the goal clean anymore.

Task #9 – 2 TPE
You ask me how a fight between an actual group of Berserkers aka Vikings and a squad of Timber-making Lumberjacks would go? That‘s an easy one I think, and it‘s not the Berserkers who would be able to come out with a win. Just think about it. On the one side, there are axe-wielding wildlings, known for their brute force and strength. Sounds scary indeed. But on the other side you have Lumberjacks, and Lumberjacks aren‘t just axe-wielding monstrosities. They have more in petto than just some lame axes. Every heard of chainsaws? You know how long the sword of a chainsaw can be in timberworks? That range of a modernized weapon will be deadly for the Vikings, who are specialized on close combat.
