Leafs Off-Season

I loved how last year before the season started everyone just blew the Leafs off saying they would be a bottom team again. They finish strong in 5th and people are still underestimating them for this season when they look even stronger.
It was only half a season, and if they continued playing like they did down the stretch of the regular season last season there's no way in hell they would made the playoffs. There's reason to underestimate, they have a unknown situation at goalie, they're hoping they get a repeat performance from Kadri and he wasn't a one hit wonder, and they don't have one of their top 3 defensemen signed right now. So I'd say being weary of them isn't out of the question. Shit the Ducks finished 2nd last season, we have the same roster except added some solid depth players and there's definitely a lot of x factors that could cause them to be a lottery team to be quite honest.

Thank you to My boys @Merica and @Ragnar for the lovely sigs!

If Lupul stays healthy that only helps our offence that much more. Clarkson will be a great versatile player as we can use him on the 2nd or 3rd line depending on how he plays, PP and/or PK. Bolland will make our bottom 6 stronger. Hopefully with another year with Carlyle our possession game will improve. Goalie situation isn't even a problem anymore. Reimer showed last year he can be a starter and do it well. Say what you want idc. With Bernier there as well we have two goalies great young goalies. Hopefully we get Kadri and Franson signed but if only one does then we have an asset to trade for the future or something to help our team now.

But we will see.

Exactly there's a whole lot of what ifs lol. If Lupul stays healthy, which he hasn't been able to do for over 5 years, If Clarkson plays well which he has only played very well for a couple seasons and even they weren't spectacular. Reimer needs to prove he can be good for a whole season which he hasn't done yet. Having 2 goalies who haven't played a full season is definitely a problem, and if you can't sign Kadri or Franson you're taking a chance, as what you trade for may not work out.

I'm a pretty big supporter of the Leafs but I definitely don't feel that it's a certainty they do as good or better than last season

You don't want Clarkson anywhere near your PK.

McClement - Kulemin
Bozak - Bolland

I'm thinking that would be our PK

I agree with most of what you said but the whole thing about having two goalies that haven't played a whole season, or not having enough experience, having the two young guys on the same team gives us twice the chance that one sticks. Plus with Reimer I don't see him not being right about what he was last season, I think he is one of those high floor low ceiling players, I don't think he will ever be an elite goalie but a steady guy back there, where as Bernier is more of a boom or bust, if he comes in this year and plays like he has the potential too then I can see us finishing around where we did last season.

tl;dr: Reimer not question mark, Bernier is but Bernier's ceiling 100x higher.

As for the team going into the season, I think the Leafs will be fighting for one of the wild card spots.

Yeah I guess that's a way to look at it. I agree with those points. I think Bernier is going to be the starter, watching him play I just think he's going to be a stud and I think right now he's even with Reimer with a lot higher ceiling. Just my thoughts on it. But yeah very valid point. I think it's good you have two goalies but goalies, especially unproven ones are always a question mark

BTW Kadri wants 6x6 (insert facepalm here)

How does every other team get sick contracts well we always seem to have greedy players.

 Kadri thinks one year of playing good and now he thinks he is a super star...

I'm fine with letting him sit for a week or so into the season if that is actually what he wants. He misses a week of action and he will fold so fast. I haven't seen it anywhere that he is actually asking for that much though I haven't really been paying attention either. I hope he isn't being that greedy.
