S81 mPT #4: Too Dead didn’t Line Due: Sunday, March 16th @ 11:59 PM PST

I don’t think there would be much to entice the trade deadline to be more exciting in the SHL.  The Cap is too tight for most every team to make trades work out, there isn’t something like the AHL (Minors) that can handle extra players arriving and leaving a team to make lopsided trades happen.  And in the end, this is a simulation league that most users want to hang around with their friends and in the comfortable spaces they’ve been a part already.

No, not a lot. The site has slowly moved away from the forums to being much more discord focused. Because of that, locker rooms become tighter, friendships are made, and people are hesitant to move out of locker rooms they know and appreciate. Especially for those players who are fair weather SHLers, and GMs dont' want to piss them off. Plus, the market is dumb and GMs ask too high of prices and think they always fleece someone.

The NHL just has a different feeling to it entirely due to th difference in anture between the SHL and NHL. The SHL has many seasons per year, and goes all year round. The NHL is an annual event where your teams next year is impacted, when you know whether to throw in the towel or to increase your hopium reserves. I dont think you can adequately address these issues without minigames or something.

I think we make every team participate in a mandatory trade each deadline. You have to exchange at least 1 player and 1 pick, no exceptions. Whoever doesn't will have a player and pick randomly traded to another team.
In all seriousness, I think the league is just too chill to have a lot of trades. The main reason for players getting traded in the NHL is so teams and players have a better chance to win, and I think a lot more people in the SHL care more about having fun than winning.

There's just not a big reason for people to make moves at the trade deadline. Usually it's just teams with one player who are looking to make moves. Idk, make incentives for players to want to be traded?

I don't think anything should be done to encourage trading players. Things are just different in the NHL regarding contracts and the ultimate goal of winning. In the SHL, things should be kept simple and fun, so trading is only for necessary purposes.

I don't think we should do anything to encourage the trading of players. At the end of the day, user experience should be priority. Unless you ask for a trade, getting traded sucks and isn't fun.

I don't think anything really has to be done. Getting traded lowkey sucks and going to a new team can also suck. Especially going from a winning team to a losing one.

im not sure what you can really do about the lack of movement in any sim league. Users are brainwashed into thinking the team that drafted them is somehow owed a favor, so they don’t opt out in FA and they don’t demand trades. It’s really up to the individual users to be more abrasive and not fall for the peer pressure of feeling bad cuz a team “wasted a pick” on you.

it is fine as it is, player movement IRL makes sense when there is millions involved in the games. in the SHL we build friendships and thats the principal component to the game as the engine is just a big gambling simulator. I dont want to trade away my friends!

I think it's fine as is. Sure, more movement would be interesting I suppose, but these are all real people. And these people obviously form friendships in the teams they are on, so I'm sure most people would rather stay where they are anyway. If they do want to leave then they are more than able to do that now.

I'd keep it like that. The SHL is slowly getting a bunch of new players, which means way more great prospects. And with a lot of players, I think more GM's will trade their Star players ( especially in the J ) for more draft picks. Might be wrong however, who knows !

We should be encouraging less trading of players, not more! People own homes! They have children in school! Why are we so unbothered by an act that can rip a family from it's community and support system!

i think there should be an ban on players returning to the team they spend the majority of their previous career with. wouldn't this be so much fun and drive user engagement?

There’s not much to the trade deadline simply because there’s a lot of teams making the playoffs and everyone that is selling tends to want 1sts, understandably, but not everyone is looking to move on from friends.
