S63 mPT #3: CUZ BABY TONIGHT 3

"Sassafras" by The Devil Wears Prada has a pretty salient point about religion:

Everything is a question of goodwill
But we're too busy delivering answers with arrogance
Isn't it funny how ones compassion
Diminishes when his or her own perils rise?

This transcends religion, but this was their offered context when writing the song. I think compassion and empathy are the first things to leave when someone is ousted from their own bubble of privilege or familiarity.

Say what you want about his worldviews but B.o.B. had some bangers.

"But I didn't have neighbors that's why they call it hood" always stood out to me as a wonderfully simple take on what it was like to grow up in an unsupportive or dangerous neighborhood.

You're my biggest opponent, you know me I know you we know it
Whenever I fail, you've always been there to simply remind me I've blown it
You don't see when I'm growing, you don't see where I'm going
You only see in the moment, you know my mistakes you never let go it

This is from Andy Mineo's "You Can't Stop Me"
I love this song and especially this part. The person he's talking to is himself. He's saying that the person standing in his way from success the most is himself. I definitely understand this because I often hold myself back from success or myself. Failure is my biggest fear and I often find myself giving up before I start because I'd rather say I could have if I tried than to have to say I couldn't. So this song helps remind me that I could have is no different that I couldn't and the only thing keeping me from success is myself.

I've made it one of my personal objective to learn the song Casimir Pulaski Day by Sufjan Stevens. The lyrics are absolutely beautiful and the melody is also superb. I'm not really good on the guitar so this is a big challenge for me personally.

Cold beer on a Friday night
A pair of jeans that fit just right
And the radio up
Well I've seen the sunrise
See the love in my woman's eyes
Feel the touch of a precious child
And know a mother's love
Well its funny how it's the little things in life that mean the most
Not where you live or what you drive or the price tag on your clothes
There's no dollar sign on a piece of mind this I've come to know
So if you agree have a drink with me
Raise you glasses for a toast
To a little bit of chicken fried

One of my favorite bars from one of my favorite artists KAAN off of I Need Ya

"See, happiness is something you can't buy
But when you find it you feel like you winning at life by a landslide
It takes time but I've been patient man, if nothing else"

I've always loved Hallelujah, the Jeff Buckley version.

Baby, I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
You know, I used to live alone before I knew you
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch
And Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

here's the opening lyrics of "with oden on our side" from one of my favorite bands Amon Amarth. It's just bad ass and I've been listing to that album a lot recently so it's in my head..

Finally the storm arrives
Our wait is at an end
Under dark winter skies
We make our final stand
For each of us there are four of them
It matters not to us
We won't leave this field in shame
We are here to crush

I like the lyrics to the song Friday by Rebecca Black. It really resonates with me because Friday is typically the end of the work week and ushering in the weekend, which is good.

One of my favorite all time songs ive been listening to a bunch more again now is peter gabriels solsbury hill. Its about his leaving genesis to become a solo artist. This last section is my favorite about how he is stuck until he finally breaks from the illusion

When illusion spin her net
I'm never where I want to be
And liberty she pirouette
When I think that I am free
Watched by empty silhouettes
Who close their eyes but still can see
No one taught them etiquette
I will show another me
Today I don't need a replacement
I'll tell them what the smile on my face meant
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" I said "You can keep my things,
They've come to take me home."

Favorite song lyrics off the top of my head would be from "Futile Devices" by Sufjan Stevens. "And words are just futile devices." Always reminds me that my own words will never really give someone 100% of what I'm thinking. No matter how hard I try it's just not enough. In this sense words are only just futile devices.

How you like my stylin', bruh? Ain't nobody stylin', bruh
'Bout to turn this mothafucka up like Riker's Island, bruh
Where my thuggers and my cripples and my bloodles and my brothers?
When you n----- gon' unite and kill the police, mothafuckas?

Hits all the key points

I like the mysterious sound of Kraftwerk's Hall of Mirrors and for this purpose I took out the chorus since it all flows together.  To me, it's a pretty cool story of someone who didn't like who he was and wanted to change himself for the better.  I don't know if that is the meaning of the song, but I like it.

The young man stepped into the Hall of Mirrors
Where he discovered a reflection of himself
Sometimes, he saw his real face
And sometimes, a stranger at his place
He fell in love with the image of himself
And suddenly, the picture was distorted
He made up the person he wanted to be
And changed into a new personality
The artist is living in the mirror
With the echoes of himself

I honestly don't really hold much of an attachment to music, not to the point some people do. I enjoy music sometimes but I don't think about the lyrics or anything deep. Is it a banger and get me hyped? All I need, cause when the years start coming and they don't stop coming, I gotta hit the ground running.
