S81 mPT #4: Too Dead didn’t Line Due: Sunday, March 16th @ 11:59 PM PST

There is definitely something that need to be done about SHL trades as there is not that many and it could for sure make the league more exciting. That being said with the expansion coming it's a bit hard to suggest something right now so perhaps the best thing to do is to wait and see.

I do think something should be done to encourage players to move around, I think it would make things more interesting. But I think something this would be near impossible due to the way contracts are set up.

While I think it would be more exciting if there was a lot of movement around the SHL trade deadline it can be hard to find a trade that works when most teams are competing for a playoff spot. Expansion might provide more sellers and help spread out players that will help facilitate more trades in itself.

I don't have much of an opinion on the trade deadline. Being a bit busy on the personal side, I am not so caught up on the ongoing trade side of the SHL/SMJHL.

With they way the budget is, and how team chemistry works it is quite hard to make trade deadline into something more. It would be cool if more movement happened, but at the end of the day most players stick with the team that draft them.

If we had injuries turned on, the deadline would be pretty great. But I’m not interested in turning injuries on. Womp womp. It also doesn’t help things much when 80% of the league makes the playoffs. Less incentive to sell midseason.

I think that the amount of movement we have right now is fine. If we wanted to do more, I think we'd have to convince bubble teams/3-4 seeds that adding player would make them better. Currently with the chemistry meta, that's not really much of a thing.

Definitely expansion of the league along with fewer teams in the playoffs would increase trades, trading for someone to get your team into the playoffs or giving up a player for a future pick would happen more in those situations.

I feel like if there wasn't so much long term commitment to a rebuild or people getting stuck into one discord would improve player movement.

Or remove some of the restrictions in the cap rules and stuff to help influence trades

As far as the trade deadline goes, I think it would be pretty difficult to make the SHL trade deadline more meaningful just because it is so hard to move players scan draft picks to have enough compensation to be able to make it worth it

I think something should definitely be done. I am not exactly sure what it should be but cool announcements for in season trades would be awesome.

I think the SHL is correctly confined in a place that means they’re outside to concerns that plague NHL ownership, namely money, and that limits the amount of risk that GMs are willing to take/spend asset wise.

I personally think that the system is fine the way it is. It takes time to build rapport within our individual teams so getting traded more often would be difficult. It’s nice when you’re able to chat and interact with the same guys on an ongoing basis, slowly learning their interests and finding ways to communicate.

A big part of what makes the NHL trade deadline work is that unspent cap space actually increases throughout the season. In the SHL, players just get paid once at the start of the season and then never again, so there's not really an opportunity for the same shenanigans.
