Corey Tripp Player Profile
[Image: qxklys.jpg]

Background
Growing up Corey Tripp always liked playing hockey. Ever since he was a young boy his coaches growing up always told his parents he would make it to the SHL one day as long as he kept working hard, and that he did. Tripp spent countless hours working on the weight room after practice, shooting pucks in the alley behind his house, and practices his other skills such as hand eye coordination in his garage. Tripp wanted this more then anything else in the world. Finally on the S10 draft day Tripp finally heard the thing he had been waiting his whole life to hear. "And with our next selection, the Hamilton Steelhawks are proud to select, from the Prince George Firebirds,....Corey Tripp!"

S10: The Rookie Campaign
Coming into the Steelhawks training camp, Tripp knew that he would have to battle to make the SHL squad. After a long week of training camp, Tripp was called into General Manager McKeil's office. That was when they had to break the news to him that he would not be playing in the SHL this year, but that he would be their star player for their minor league team in the NWJHL. Tripp packed his bags and got on the next plane to Montreal to join the Impact.

Tripp's time in Montreal was productive. He managed to help lead the team all the way to the finals of the playoffs. Although Tripp really never wanted to play in Montreal he was later quoted saying "Without being sent down to the Impact I dont think I would have developed the way I have. I would have been a bottom 6 getting little ice time, and instead I trusted what Mr. McKeil was doing and I knew he had a plan for me. My time in Montreal was great. I meat some good friends and we had one hell of a team. I was able to be a major contributor to it and I really think my game was brought to a whole new level by spending a year there." -Corey Tripp

S11: Sophomore Year
Once again Tripp was back at the Hamilton Steelhawks team training camp. This year was different. He was bigger and more muscular. He trained his ass off over the summer. Tripp was going to make the squad. Again, at the end of the camp Coach McKeil brought him into his office. Corey Tripp finally heard the best words of his life. "Congrats kid, you made it to Hamilton."

In his first season in the SHL, Corey Tripp spent time on all of Hamiltons lines. Mostly playing as a bottom 6 player, he still managed to get a few games in on lines 1 and 2 and was able to show that he has a bright future ahead of him.Tripp was able to break the double digit mark for goals in his first SHL season with putting 10 in the back of the net. Along with that Corey was able to dishout 12 helpers for his teammates. Tripp was almost able to get a point every other game in his rookie season. Not bad for a second round selection in his rookie SHL season.

The Hamilton Steelhawks have just won the SHL Championship and Corey Tripp was apart of it all the way. Although Tripp didn't contribute a lot with goals or assists, Tripp had a bigger role on the team. With 15 hits in only 10 games, as well as 3 fights in that time. Tripp embraced his role as a bottom six player and he really showed the league that he has more to his game then just scoring points. Every GM who passed up on Tripp in the S10 draft will soon be regretting their choice. Tripp is the real deal.

Christoph Klose, close to three finals in a row?

When Minnesota won the cup in season 10 Christoph Klose was one of the large amounts of good forwards. The teams had a lot of great people so he had to share his icetime. This season everything changed for him. After being traded to the Calgary Dragon he had to play large minutes for his team. Only defenseman played more minutes then Klose and that says a lot.

He carried his team to the play offs with 33 goals (most on team) and 40 assists (also most on team) and there he was the most important factor of their success as well. The statistics are not fully updated yet, but the most recent version has him at 8 goals and 15 points.

In the first round of the play-offs the Calgary Dragons managed to beat the Winnipeg Jets which was a surprise to a lot of people, since most people figured the Jets would make another appearance in the finals this year.

Christoph Klose had a short career in Calgary, as soon as the season ended he got traded to Hamilton. Fun to see since Hamilton was the team that caused Calgary to lose the finals. In Hamilton he will find multiple other new additions so it is likely that they will make the finals again next season.

If this happens Christoph Klose has made the finals three times in three seasons with three different teams. Quite an achievement if you ask me. Christoph Klose always had been an underrated guy, so it is good to see him making a name for himself now. He was the silent force this year for the Dragons and will probably make sure to make an impact on the Steelhawks as well.
The Hamilton fans can be happy with the addition, they are getting an unique personality and a true team player. Good luck pursuing your third final in a row Christoph!

Saku Perhonen, El Capitano.

Saku Perhonen was the third player drafted in the Season Six SHL Entry Draft. The Former Kelowna Knights Captain was drafted based on his leadership abilities, intangibles and fantastic play-off performance where he was on pace to break the most points in the NWJHL playoffs. Drafted by the Vancouver Nightmare (now Las Vegas Kings) Perhonen was expected to fill the depature by star forward and former first overall pick Michael Abdalla who left the team to head to the Toronto North Stars. Well, it definatley didn't go that way as Perhonen went pointless his first 11 games and ended with 20 points in a 60 game season. Following that season, Perhonen demanded a trade to the Minnesota Chiefs.

On the Chiefs Perhonen started by playing with Brodie Witzel and Zach Miller on the top line. Putting up 35 points (a common occurence in his 5 season SHL career, happening 3 times) and leading the league in +/-. Many considered him to be a front runner for the two-way forward of the year trophy since he also had a great amount of shot blocks and hits for a forward however his linemate, offensive dynamo Brodie Witzel won the trophy for the first and only time in his career. Perhonen was kicked off the top line and placed in between two European players in David Winter and Christoph Klose. Klose and Winter were known to have great chemistry and the team hoped by placing another European player on that line it would spark an even greater point total from them. However by placing Perhonen on that line it caused it to flounder. Perhonen demanded a trade following Witzel's depature in season 10 ending up on the Texas Renegades.

Career year, leads league in hits, considered top-3 for two-way forward, plays with his former Kelowna draftee Elias Armia, loses to McZehrl for two-way forward award. Retires in pre-season to keep his player, gets traded to Dragons and joins Jesster.

In Calgary, Perhonen for the first time in his illustrious career gets a letter on his jersey in the SHL, with the "C" for the Calgary Dragons. Despite a mediocre season by recent Dragons standards, Calgary was pumped heading into the season. The first series they matched up against the Winnipeg Jets, the team who knocked them off in the play-offs last season. A grueling vengeance matched that actually stacked up quite well when comparing the teams. Two vets in Mexico and Bolt, the two best goalies in the game and a bunch of fantastic depth and star players like Brovalchuck, Klose, Hall, Perhonen, and Grigorenko. Needless to say the Dragons dominated the series and won in a convincing fashion after seven games (in a best of seven series of course). Eventually, after battling throughout the playoffs the Dragons made the SHL finals. The finals however did not go anything Klose (get it) to how the Dragons imagined it. Losing the first three games really had the team down. Jesster came in and gave a rousing speech prior to game four, practically willing the team by himself to win it which they did. However game five marked the end of the Calgary Dragons, who lost to the Hamilton Steelcocks in five games, a disappointing end to Saku's career and first final appearance. Boo hoo.

<div align="center">Finally There: Matthew Ekblad

History

Ekblad never pictured himself winning a cup in just his third season when he was selected third overall in the season nine entry draft. Ekblad was a disappointed player draft day as his team had lost to the S9 NWJHL Four Stars Champions the Prince George Firebirds in a thrilling over-time 2-1 loss in game seven in the second round. The Kelowna Knights had all it took to go all the way but Weber and the Firebirds were just too much. Looking back at it Ekblad says it was a great series and he still thinks his team was the better squad and should have won. Ekblad ever since has blossomed, becoming a great defender learning from veterans like LeBacon and Darian Scherbluk who taught him a lot as a rookie, and sophomore. Ekblad knows how the pain feels as the Steelhawks later lost in the S9 Finals to the Calgary Dragons 4-1 in a seven-game series. The Steelhawks were seeking redemption in S10 but fell short to the Minnesota Chiefs in the Conference Finals, the Chiefs went on to win the cup and the Steelhawks yet again went home without a cup.

Present

Ekblad was named the assistant General Manager in the off-season of S10 and has built a championship team with General Manager Joe McKeil. Ekblad was eager to get his hands on the cup being the sixth to get it from long-time teammate Daniel Carlsson. Ekblad has been a key piece to the Steelhawks success being one of the reasons the team came home with the cup. Ekblad put up a career season with over 50 points and although he wasn’t nominated for a Norris expect for him to be a nominee next season as the young defender has continued to develop and is in the best of his prime.

Roman Schultz's post-draft mug shot.

Roman Schultz is a defense first defenseman for the Hamilton Steelhawks who was drafted just this past SHL Entry Draft in season 11 with the fifth overall selection. Roman is one of the most promising prospects from this draft class and should at least be considered to win the Ryan Jesster Trophy as the rookie of the year. Schultz played in all 50 regular season contests for the Steelhawks where he did not score any goals but put 12 assists on the board with a plus 17 plus minus rating. He added 52 penalty minutes (including two fighting majors) with 84 body checks, and 30 blocked shots. Roman also had a plus 25 takeaway to giveaway ratio (28 takeaways, 3 giveaways). During Hamilton's run to their Challenge Cup victory, Schultz put one assist on the board with a plus 9 rating and 16 penalty minutes. He had 18 hits, 5 blocked shots, and 6 takeaways to no giveaways after 10 games.

Checking: 90
Fighting: 27
Discipline: 62
Skating: 93

Roman loves to use his big 6 foot 8, 250 pound frame to his advantage, using his body to execute bone crunching hits whenever given the chance, and has a very smooth skating style for a big man, allowing him to get to top speed in no time flat. He is not the best fighter out there but can hold his own when challenged and takes undisciplined penalties from time to time.

Strength: 90
Endurance: 88
Durability: 50
Puck Handling: 90

Schultz is a very strong young kid who uses that to knock opponents off of the puck as well as not allowing the opposition to do that very same action to himself. He has the ability to play a boatload of minutes each and every night in any situation but can be injured easily. He handles the puck like it is second nature to him and is a very good puck mover from the back end.

Schultz can lose control of his emotions every now and again.

Face Offs: 50
Passing: 87
Scoring: 50
Defense: 93
Penalty Shot: 50

Roman is not an offensive type of defenseman so do not expect him to put up many goals for you, but what he will do for you is move the puck very well and make hard, crisp passes onto his teammate's stick to finish it off. His defensive instincts are one of the best I have seen from an SHL rookie as well as his positioning and stick work. He is a not a great choice for a shooter in shootout situations unless all of your snipers have shot already and the face-off dot is an uncomfortable spot for him.

Saku Perhonen

Saku perhonen is kind of a big deal. People call him a living legend. Sadly this living legends career is now over. he is a hard worker, winner and born leader. Drafted 1st overall by the kelowna knights in the NWJHL sake pehonen has gone a long way. Being traded to multiple teams he is now a current player of the calgary dragons that are 1 game away from losing the finals. Inface news just came in, they have lost. This means saku perhonen's career is over.

He is a very versatile player that can play center or wing. He has over 700 tpe and over 40 points this season.

The main part this year for Perhonen this year was that he was given the letter C for reminader of the season. He deserved it. This was perhonens last year but sadly it could not be the greatest as he the calgary dragons were swept by the hamilton steelhawks in the finals.

perhonen has over 4 stats maxed out. He was legend, and will continue to be with his new player entering the SHL this year.

Christoph Klose

Christoph Klose in the last two years has made it to the SHL finals in both year on different teams, he won a challenge cup in one of those years and is looking to do it again with the steel hawks now. It looks like he might do it as the Steel hawks have a very strong team going into next year.

His role on the dragons was the number one winger and on all the teams he was on an amazing offensive forward. He has 8 stats maxed out and over 800 tpe with his one and only weakness being his fighting skills and taking penalties at bad times before OT and losing the game for his team. Klose uses his average to small size and his quickness to his advantage being and incredibly fast skater with a very quick release on his shot. He is also a great defensive forward even if his main strength is offence he as great defensive ability and sense with lot's of strength and isn't afraid to throw hit's and use is body. He is a great team player who carried the dragons with the most goals and assists on his team as well as playing great in the play-offs. He had a lot of ice time in Calgary one of the most on his while in Minnesota he didn't have as much but still played great. His career in Calgary was a short one as he was traded to Hamilton after just one year but he has a great chance to get to the finals again let alone with a challenge cup again which would be a great achievement, getting to the finals 3 years in a row with different teams. Hamilton is very lucky to be getting Klose as he is a great player with a great personality.

Rehn "So Much to Say... So little Substance" Miller
[Image: wj070924u.jpg]

Rehn Miller the recent Challenge Championship winner has a long way to go before being considered one of the elite center/wingers of the league. Rehn will use his finesse game to win the battles but when push comes to shove he will need to develop the ability to use the small body to hit people to obtain the puck. If he doesn’t he will need a guy on his team like Swerin at all times to get him the puck and to protect him. As many people find his on-ice attitude to be annoying at times since it can cause the best of league to just want to crush him through the glass and let him see the birdies floating above his head after a monster hit. Sure he can protect himself from not so devastating hits but in the end someone will want to take him out. His perk right now is that he cannot survive on the ice a lot with his lower than normal endurance level so currently expect 2nd-3rd line minutes for him until this improves.

Rehn is a good playmaker based on his offence abilities but is not yet the complete player he has the potential to become... He kind of reminds me of a Valtteri Flilipula. Good offensively and a good two-way game but in the end not the guy you dream of leading the team currently. This is fine for Rehn since he has many solid years ahead of him to develop into a complete player many can see him becoming. Outside of his playing ability Rehn’s biggest problem will be his ability to shine and grab the spotlight. If he should be fine being a supporting member of this extremely talented team then the sky is the limit for Rehn since the pressure won’t be on him to perform huge. For what it is worth Rehn Miller has the potential to become one amazing play making center but that time will be for another day. He just needs to be patient and his time will come to shine. For now he is a very solid playmaking center... tomorrow expect 2nd line minutes in his current situation

DANIEL CARLSSON

Daniel Carlsson was a key player on the backend for the Challenge Cup Champions, the Hamilton Steelhawks. He was a very solid force, putting up numbers offensively and defensively. Carlsson opened the Challenge Cup Series with a great effort, posting 2 assists, +2, 5 hits, and 2 takeaways. He was one of better overall players for Hamilton in the Game 1 victory and gave the Dragons a glimpse of what was to come. Game 2 showed Carlsson’s offensive game, when he potted 1 goal and 2 assists. He was the spark for the Hamilton offense and really helped his team to a 2-0 series lead, winning both games at home.

The setting then changed to Calgary for games 3 and 4, but that didn’t stop Daniel in game 3. He has his offense with 2 assists, but he displayed his defensive prowess this time with 6 hits and 4 takeaways. When a player can stall the opposing offense with the effectiveness that Carlsson did in game 3, your team has a great chance to come out on top. That’s just what happened, with Hamilton taking a commanding 3-0 series lead. In game 4, Calgary finally slowed down Carlsson’s game and shut him down in almost every category. Without Carlsson’s production, Calgary won and closed the series gap to 3-1.

The series then shifted back to Hamilton for the very important game 5. This is where Daniel Carlsson became a hero in Hamilton and a household name in the SHL. With game 5 in overtime and the Steelhawks one goal away from their first Challenge Cup, Carlsson skated down the ice and wrote his name in the record books. His shot sailed past future Hall of Famer Ryan Jesster and into the net to give the Hamilton Steelhawks the 4-1 series win. Daniel Carlsson played one of the more complete Challenge Cup Finals in recent memory, with the biggest goal in Hamilton’s history coming off of his stick. He was a rock on defense and a spark on offense and really brought his team together on the ice. Here’s hoping the performance of Daniel Carlsson will be remembered by the Steelhawks and the SHL for years to come because he deserves it.

Scouting Report: Rookie Roman Schultz

Position: Defense
Born: January 1, 1995, Natick, Massachusetts
Height: 6'8
Weight: 250 lbs
Number: 55
Shoots: Left

Rookie Defenseman Roman Schultz was just recently selected 5th overall in season 11 SHL draft by the Hamilton Steelhawks and he can already boast that he was an integral part of the Hawks being able to capture this year’s Challenge Cup.

Strengths:

Skating
The first thing that stands out when you watch Schultz play is his smooth skating ability and how he is always usually the first one to the puck when there is a foot race. His lightning speed allows him to keep up with the most agile forwards as well as jump up in the rush when needed.

Checking/Strength
Just looking at his 6’8, 250 pound frame is more than enough information to know that you should keep your head up when Schultz is on the ice. Schultz certainly doesn’t shy away from the physical aspect of the game and loves to throw big menacing hits when the situation calls for it.

Defense
His defensive instinct is probably the best out of all rookies in the SHL and is something even many veterans don’t come close to in comparison. Schultz is always positionally sound and is able to make the smart play to make sure he doesn’t cough up the puck.

Weaknesses:

Scoring
As Schultz continues to grow his game in the SHL he should most definitely develop his scoring touch and shooting abilities. At the moment Schultz isn’t a serious threat to score when he has the puck and if he hopes to be more effective on the PP he will need to work on getting a booming Slapshot.

Penalty Shot
In addition to needing to work on his shot, Schultz also needs to develop some moves when it comes time to go 1 on 1 against the goaltender. Currently he just doesn’t have the tricks to get it past the goaltender when the extra point is at hand.

Overall Roman Schultz looks like an amazing rookie who will be an all-star in the league for a long time. He already has one challenge cup under his belt and played well in a shutdown role. Hamilton looks poised to repeat next season and if Schultz is able to continue developing his game there is no reason why they won’t be able to.

Matthew Ekblad - Scouting Report

Player Type: Offensive Defenseman
Position: D
Born: November 8, 1995
Shoots: Right
Height (ft.): 6'3"
Weight (lbs.): 220 lbs.
Birthplace: Hattula, Finland

Introduction
Ekblad is a offensive defenseman that plays for the Hamilton Steelhawks. He just recently won the Challenge Cup with the Steelhawks, and played a huge role in the team winning the championship. He was drafted 3rd overall in the Season 9 SHL Entry Draft from the Kelowna Knights and has always been on of the best players in the NWJHL or the SHL, He is one of the few elite defenseman we currently have in the Simulation Hockey League. This scouting report on Ekblad will focus on his strengths and weak parts of his game.

Strengths
Ekblad is an all around defenseman that provides any team a great blueliner that can play in all situations such as power play and penalty kill. He is a great passer and his skating skills are top notch and provides elite skills for the Hamilton Steelhawks. His shot is something to look out for as well as he has a very hard shot and you dont want to block them as an injury can occur. The final strength Ekblad has is his defense. He knows how to play in his own zone and protects the puck well.

Weakness
To be perfectly honesty. There arent many weak parts of Ekblad's game he has top skills in every area of his game. But Ekblad does lack in the checking part of the game a bit. But he doesnt need to be very physical as his offensive skills makes up for that part of this game. When he first came into the league though he also lacked in defenseive skills but his development is something special and now like we said can play in all situations as a defenseman.

Overall
Matthew Ekblad is a great top 2 defenseman and can play in all situations with a talent your getting in Ekblad is something amazing and is one of the elite players in the league. All these strengths helped the Steelhawks win the Challenge Cup and Ekblad had a huge role with the team.
