The Limelight Lamp Lighter of the Game

Giving respect to one player of the game for out performing others in regards to intangibles, Game 4's 3LG is Miguel Sanchez. With four hits and three shot blocks, Sanchez found lanes to block and people to crush all night long.

TSN TURNING POINT

The start of the season, what a great time of the year and the first game for the Knights and the Scarecrows. The only downfall of tonight was only one team made it to opening night. The Knights got an early chance on the Power Play and never looked back. John Langabeer was able to bury the first goal of the season and that was the start of the on slaughter. The Knights were not only able to put more then enough pucks past Wagner and Haapanen, but thanks to Thompson that first goal of the season would have been enough to give them the W

Thompson and Langabeer celebrate a win and the first of hopefully many as the bromance continues.

MVP of the game

John Langabeer...

The start of the season was a good one for the Knights and the same goes for John Langabeer. Langabeer was able to give the Knights a good start to the season as he buried the first goal and we all know he has hopes to bury the last one that wins them another cup. Langabeer finished the contest with 1 goal and 2 assists as the Knights finished the game 6-0 and started off their season the best way they could think of. The top line of Langabeer centering Knouse and Horvat were a dominate force and should be all season.

Hard to win when you're outshot, but St. Louis really needed better goaltending out there. Despite only facing 24 shots in the game, the goaltending tandem allowed a total of 6 goals - coincidentally the difference in shots taken.

Gotta admire Horvat's efforts to get the Gordie Howe hat trick. Not much of a fighter, but late in the 6-0 game with a goal and an assist already, the opportunity to fight (re: get beat up) presented itself, and he took it. You go man.

Talk about equal opportunity - every single one of the St. Louis skaters had a minus in this game. Not a single player is able to escape the blame for this mess.

Three Stars

3. Cory Knouse - Knights

A goal and two assists along with a plus four - Knouse had the kind of game you call your mother up and tell her about. With such a stellar performance on the ice it's a wonder he's only the third star - but when you see the performances of these other two you'll understand.

2. John Langabeer - Knights

While he had the same stat line as Knouse, his faceoff prowess really gives him the edge in this one. Going 22/36 on the draw, his control in the circle tonight really helped his team get an edge up on St. Louis, and Kelowna won this one by winning the possession game for sure.

1. Vasily Horvat - Knights

Gotta recognize the Gordie Howe hat trick, so I'm giving him top honors in this one. Two goals, an assist, a fight. . .Horvat did it all tonight, and if we see efforts like this throughout the season it's going to be tough to stop the Knights.

Unsung Hero

The unsung hero in this game was definitely Kelowna's Lykke Bergfalk. He didn't make much of an impression on the scoresheet with just one assist, but he racked up some huge minutes for the Knights in this game - primarily on the penalty kill. And considering the Knights were able to keep the Scarecrows at bay not just while shorthanded but all throughout the game, his defensive effort certainly deserves some recognition.

3 Stars

1. Vasily Horvat Knights - 2G 1A 3P +3 - Vasily took 4 shots in the game and managed to score on 2. His shoot first mentality was on display tonight and for good reason.

2. Cory Knouse Knights 1G 2A 3P +3 - Knouse was one of the forwards on his team with lower playing time, but he made the most out of his time on the ice by scoring once and assisting 2 times. He proved to be an integral part of this Knights lineup.

3. Sebastian Thompson Knights 18 saves on 18 shots - Thompson saved all 18 shots he faced tonight and really made his team look great in front of him. He was able to bail out his teammates a few times and make sure that St. Louis was stuck with a big goose egg.

Worst Player Of The Game

Adriana Starsota of the Knights did absolutely nothing to help her team win this game. Playing over 20 minutes and only seeing her name on the scoresheet for her 4 penalty minutes, she was more of a liability then anything during this game.

Underrated Player Of The Game

Fletcher Carric tried his best tonight, but unfortunately his best just wouldn't do. Winning 19 faceoffs of his 28 he took, Carric could only do so much and as much as he tried it was all for nothing.

Three Comments

The Knights did an excellent job on the penalty kill on the night. They committed four penalties, but held strong through all eight minutes, preventing the Scarecrows from coming back with some suffocating defense.

Vasily Horvat had a tremendous game, scoring twice and adding an assist for three points on the night. Brett Kennedy took exception to this though, and was able to defeat Horvat in a fight with less than two minutes to play in the game. It was about the only thing the Scarecrows did well on the night.

Sebastian Thompson only faced 18 shots, but he was fabulous on the night. Thompson posted a shutout and his tremendous goaltending really demotivated the Scarecrows. Surprisingly, he never made it in to the 3 stars of the night.

Game LVP

Scarecrows Jimmy Wagner Scarecrows

Jimmy Wagner had a terrible time in goal for St. Louis. He only lasted 23 minutes before being pulled for Kasper Haapanen. Facing 15 shots, Wagner managed to only save 11, giving up 4 goals. With 3 goals conceded in the first period, Wagner would have wanted to come out in the second and make a stand. Unfortunately he saved only one shot in the second before conceding, leading the Scarecrows coach to make the decision to pull him.

Three Stars of the Game

1. John Langabeer (KEL) - Langabeer opened up scoring this game in first period with a goal at 11:35. Taking up the position of first line center this season, he stayed strong this game and came out with a goal and two assists to his linemates Vasily Horvat and Cory Knouse, showing great chemistry between the three. Even though Langabeer had the same number of points as Knouse and Horvat, Langabeer stayed around the puck more and kept the Scarecrows busy.

2. Cory Knouse (KEL) - Knouse created a lot of shot attempts, but missed the net on more than a couple of them this game. Luckily, that didn't shake his confidence and he managed to pick up two assists on Vasily Horvat's goals in the second period, scoring a goal in the third.

3. Vasily Horvat (KEL) - Kelowna was not down on their luck by the time Vasily Horvat's scoring chances came alive in the second, but he said, "why not have a couple more goals?" and put two in, so we say, give him the third star. A vet on the team, it's good to show the younger players early on that if you put in the work, the magic happens. His assist in the first also helped Langabeer open the score sheet.

PuckDaddy's Biscuit Boss of the Game

Well as every dedicated hockey fan knows, sometimes the most impressive moves with a puck come from the flashy handling of an aspiring sniper, but sometimes in they come in the form of forced turn-over take-aways and exactly the right moment -- and it's the latter one we've come to celebrate in this game here in Kelowna tonight. Zeroing in on the 3rd Knights goal put away by Halfdan Thorstein in an absolute firefight of a first period, Robin Wexter's quick thinking and faster hands snuck in to steal the puck away from Stefan Digrio after fellow Knight Haugen plasters the Scarecrow Digrio against the half-wall in the 'Crows own zone. This turnover afforded a pass-up from Wexter to Døro, who's one-time shot was deflected by Wager inopportunely into Thorstein's waiting stick -- and that's all she fucking wrote to the tune of three goals against St. Louis at the bottom of the first.
