I liked you better as an inactive

I came back to SHL, ashamed of my behavior and actions resulting in my departure. I had full faith I could stay in the shadows, do my thing and not make a scene.

But days after my return the league lays this idiotic plan out for us. Yeah fuck that, I whole heartily disagree with this decision.

I enjoy different leagues for different reasons, combing them takes away from each ones uniqueness. I know nothing i actually say is taken with an seriousness at this point in my time here. But I cant help but share my opinion of a league I have spent so many hours on.

PS. I dont like you much either

08-22-2018, 06:01 PMWally Wrote: Dear god... Ruutu... Man I love you dude. But shit son.

This is a god damn trial.  Let it be.  This has been talked about for some time now, long before I arrived  and data never kills anyone nor a league.  Let us put in the due diligence on the matter and make a commitment following the study of said data.  I don't care who is part of what league outside of this troll-loving conundrum we call home here at the SHL.  At some point we need to act and decide what our long term goals are and being someone who is in the marketing avenue, getting measurements of an avenue only is good for us.  Whether it is good for us permanently is yet to obviously be determined... but if the critics of the entire process in this thread would step up and use some of these words wasted here for solid media... well hell, we may stop hearing complaints of lack luster media starting to subside as well.

As for those always ready to lynch the PT team... If you can do better step to the plate and take a swing.  They invest a shit ton of time to continue to push the development of YOUR player.  Being able to do a five minute podcast for a PT won't stop the shit slinging when it comes to critiquing.  I've been there... I've been the head of the PT team and gave the reigns to @Pris and now will be taking them back.  During my initial time we addressed the length of PTs and also addressed variety.  Unfortunately, many fun ideas get shot down in fear of this exact criticism and at the possibility of not getting full TPE for a PT or via Predictions.

So how do you appease the masses?  Well... you can't.  But data can at least lead you to the best option.

Sounds like a risky trial. What happens to those users who for whatever reason cant do the PT´s in SHL now, they use and get used to the PT Affiliation setup - what will they do if the SHL asks them to start doing PT´s on SHL again? If they go inactive, what kind of effect that has on both SMJHL and SHL?

Is the success of this trial measured on how many new users join or how many users use the PT affiliation?

Explain where the risk is?  Instead of the criticism, I want you to take the time and suggest some options for retention.  This isn't entirely about acquiring new members... this is about attrition... this is about maintaining growth over an extended period of time.  For as long as you have been present here... Same for RED.  You guys, and many others, have been devout supporters of the SHL and as a sim league owner, there is no price tag on that.  That's not only invaluable, but also cherished by those who do put work into the operation of the league.

So... the question is, what if we do cancel the affiliation?  Well we risk losing those members who simply lived on welfare.  The same members that wouldn't be here if not for the welfare anyways.  Little risk in my book.  But even a fraction of that staying would be a more than nothing... and this is if we would discontinue affiliation.

My measurements have literally little to do with growth in number of users and more to do with raising the average of TPE earned per season and quantity of users developing a player.  The metrics can't be tied solely to new users... I want the sustainability of a healthy league not a fraction of growers and a mass of showers Smile

Big drafts are awesome... but only if they produce the fruits of lets say a S30 J/S31 class.  There has to be a give and take some where down the line.  With the growth of leagues around the SHL (maybe not as big, but definitely sustainable), we need to take notice and account for daily time spent per user.  While we may be the biggest, we offer little in presentation.  We made a great move with the forum, but still lack in presentation from a day to day stand point.

As our users age year by year they will continue to gain responsibilities that take more and more time away from a process that is not only old school (updating and sim wise itself), but literally has to compete with other leagues purely on user time available during every day.  We need to adapt at some point, but this doesn't mean we are taking away from the example the SHL has set in terms of sustainable benchmarks in both growth and participation.  What it does take is committed users that see the end goal and continuing to find fun in the various competitive ways they do.  If they don't then they need to speak up with an understanding that they have people listening, specifically myself.

None of this affiliation takes away from this league... if at all, it adds higher quality of mid-level players from a long term basis, but as I said... that is yet to actually be measured or determined.  At the end of S43... there will be plenty of answers to questions and more decisions to make.

The risk is getting users to rely on this PT affiliation, if it for whatever reason does not bring the results/effects that is wanted and the system is scrapped, those users who rely on the PT affiliation more than likely are not the first ones to start doing PT´s on SHL again. (If they came here to claim PT`s from other league) If that group is fairly large, does not exactly help some teams to win if they lose players to inactivity = overall quality of the league goes down. Sure, users go inactive all the time, but if the reason is not being able to claim TPE from PT´s for free, feels like a risky addition to the league if removing the addition drops users to inactive category right away.

Retention options, I don´t really have any. Could find ways to keep people interested by tweaking the update scale, adding player archetypes, adding more/different kinds of PT´s, VHL has a portal where all the players submit their updates, the actual updating process from players to index takes A LOT less time than here, something on those areas would have been the better move, not go after the mid-level/semi-actives by handing them out free tpe for just showing up from another league. What about the users who are in the active category in SHL? When do they get some love?

I hope the PT affiliation is a success and HO sees in the data what they are looking for. I don´t agree with it, going to this direction and what is left about SHL is just the name, going to be just like the others and we can all wonder why things feel bland in the sim league scene all of a sudden.

You guys have to stop feeding jRuutu though. He will never be for things that help leagues grow or for things that appear "lazy" which is ironic because he is pretty lazy himself.

And still as a lazy user, I have been able to survive the grueling task of doing PT`s in SHL. Don´t you think it´s funny how a lazy user can do the PT´s, but so many users by the sound of it just don´t have what it takes to do them, they run to the streets to celebrate PT affiliation like this. If I´m lazy, what are those users?

Since you are a veteran sim league user, why is it silly to ask to be able to claim TPE from PT´s on SHL if I go out for 1 h run. You are now able to claim TPE from PT´s on SHL by doing something on some other league, what both examples have in common is this: We both do nothing for PT´s on SHL to get the TPE. Surely it´s just as good or maybe even better to go out for 1 hour run, going to be much more calm and overall feel better, only going to increase the chance of writing media articles and taking part in discussions on SHL?

Hey Nuck, you may not remember me, I was a WR in NSFL s2 for the Wraiths while you were still a semi-active RB there. If you do not know, I also am no longer on the Wraiths. Neither here nor there.

I do, and maybe this is me, find it hilarious that that a guy who decided he was stretched too thin in s2 of the NSFL and had to step down complaining about a method that helps mitigate the problem of burnout.

This doesn't remove the need for money to buy equipment and weekly trainings. It does however, allow players to be active or semi-active in multiple leagues. We all have lives. My wife is right in that I spend a little too much time with the sim sports world, so I'm all for having an easier workload.

No one, and I mean, no one probably reads all the points tasks, they don't get the views of the media. Nor should they. The community doesn't talk about PTs unless it's a specific one. We care about the sim, the results, and the community in and outside the locker room. This is looking for an issue where there is none.

I do remember you, how have you been?

You are correct I did step down and hand over the Wraiths, stating I didnt have time for it. Although what I didnt tell you was that I was dealing with health issues that are still nagging me. Neither did I make it public knowledge that I felt out of my league when it came to knowing the game and its strategies. I felt the team was in much more capable hands by giving it to people who know the game.

As far as protecting PT's, I am not, nor was I. But I do want to see them kept as they are in their own respected sites.

Disagreeing with the decision is fine. Pretending that this means that a baseball, hockey, and football league are going to merge together is pants-on-head stupid, though.

At first I thought you were just tossing out low quality bait and getting bites but now I'm starting to wonder if you actually believe the things you've been posting.

Thinking over it again, I'd be more concerned if it was for a rival hockey sim league.
