PLAYER PROMPT: The first thing I like to see in the arena is a changing room that is there strictly to change clothes and is a different room than the locker room where we put our equipment on. That room that should have showers attach to them. Another important amenity that every professional team should have in their stadium is a kitchen in which the team has a chef that provides meals for every one that needs it after the morning practice and before the games on game day. It should also have a dedicated eating area where all players can eat together. The filming room should have small tables next to every seat so that players can come with a pen and paper to take notes on what the coach is saying. Finally, while it is not a necessity, I like when a stadium has a spot with a big enough patch of turf on which we can do sprint or play soccer.

Player task:

For William Salming, amenities in the stadium or rink are not so important. If there is an NHL-sized ice, it is enough. Of course for fans it will be useful to have some pizza or burger places where to visit between periods but for players everything they need is a locker room with enough space so everyone can stretch in a peace. In fact, William likes to visit in away arenas because locker rooms are there very minimalistic and simple. It helps William just to focus on playing hockey. That's why he hopes always that there is not any funny things in a home arena because they are distractions. A hockey is a job and Salming's job is just put the puck in the net. Nothing else matters. He doesn't want distractions for his working place. Even in the film room it would be nice if there were no sofas or chairs. Everyone would stand in all meetings and stay awake better that way.

Mit only needs two things for an arena to provide: a slab of ice and a rubber biscuit. However, it doesn't hurt to have a little rec area for the gang to relax after our hard fought battles. Mit is a bit of a pool shark so if there's gonna be a rec room then Mit is going to find a way to fill it with an Olhausen. Aside from that, Mit does get a little obsessed with hitting the weight room and needs to have enough machines in order to work out every square inch of his muscle build. He used to let the training in the weight room slide a bit, but now that the pro life is starting to come quick he decided its time to bulk up so he can lay the smackdown on the people in the SHL that have doubted him so far.

To Baku’s disappointment, the local taxpayers approved paying for a new stadium (and the owners are NOT happy with him about his role). Still, they ask him and they other players what they want to see in the new arena. Surprisingly to some, the team asks for a nap room. It doesn’t need to be massive or have glorious TempurPedic mattresses, but they just want a small, dark room near the locker room for mid day naps if people want them. In his golden years, Jamal Nightingale is notorious for hating to go back to his house on game days, so a spot for his afternoon nap would be great. Beyond that, the training room has gotten a big cramped with the latest generation regenerative technology the team bought a few seasons ago, so expanding that would be great—make 2 rooms, one for the trainers to work directly on players and a second for the massage chairs and revitalization pods for afterwards. Several of the players also demand that the sound system in the weight room get upgraded. Several players insist that the ground shake from the bass when they play music during workouts (and everyone else is too afraid to contradict them).

Written Task: Tell me what your player cares most about in terms of stadium amenities. What do they expect to see? What would surprise them, positively or negatively? What do the weight room and film room absolutely have to have? (150+ words) -

Apparently, there is a new stadium coming in town, because of this Furious Chicken got asked (together with the whole team) what would be essentials in this new stadium. Obviously the first thing should be some good and sturdy ice, but outside of the ice itself a nice changing room is definitely a must. How else are you going to be able to put ice hockey gear on a chicken. Outside of the changing room every self-respecting stadium should have a nice field of grass, for creatures like for example a chicken obviously not referring to myself here to run around, peck some food, and have some general entertainment when not playing this hockey game.

About the weight room, always a nice question to ask. Obviously, a lot of stadiums still have a human-based weight room, it would be a nice surprise if there would be some weights made for chicken-use. Same with those pesky remoted in the film room, that is just not very convenient for the chickens among us.

Player Prompt/Written Task

When looking at stadium amenities, I care most about the fan experience. After all, the fans are the reason we play and the reason I earn a paycheck. Because of that, I want to make sure that fans of all age groups and backgrounds enjoy more than just the on-ice product. For the kids, I would want there to be a full kid zone, where the aspiring players can get to meet the team mascot and test out their wrist shot targeting.

For the adults, the food & drink will be key. I would want there to be food from local vendors all throughout the stadium, so that each fan has plenty of options to choose from depending on how they are feeling that night. And of course, I'd want to ensure that there is a wide range of alcohol to choose from. Light beer, craft beer, seltzers - you name it we will have it.

Last of all, something that maybe isn't thought of as often but I believe is important would be the parking. Nothing is worse than having to stress over parking when going to a sporting event, so I would want to make sure our stadium has enough parking to hold every single fan who shows up that night. This way, families could focus on getting to the game, rather than having to worry about whether or not they can find a parking spot.

As a professional athlete, I think having what is essential your workplace set up in a way that helps you maximize your performance is absolutely crucial. It's not easy because every player has different things he likes and dislikes and preferences might vary greatly, but if done right you can get a lot out of it for your team as a team for surprisingly little money. For me personally, one factor that is very important is nutrition and having access to healthy food both in regards to main courses and snacks at all times. It's up to the coaches whether they want to set up the players with things like meal plans or not, but every player should have the opportunity to seek these things out himself if he so chooses. So we should have both a nutritional expert and cooking staff around during practice time and game days to make sure that even when players are busy with other stuff and don't want to thing about these kinds of things, the things they instinctively grab for a quick burst of energy are optimally selected.

Well since the owners of the Pride have decided we do need a new arena after all, the question now becomes where do we put said new arena. San Francisco doesn’t have a lot of room to expand, and Chase Center is currently in a prime location, so finding a new spot is going to be tricky. However, there is an untapped area of San Francisco that is prime for hockey: Alcatraz Island. Why not remake the infamous prison into an ice hockey arena? You could easily rename it Alcatraz Arena and playing on a prison island is an unforgettable experience for every player across the league. You can put the visitors locker room in a prison cell, you can run the concessions like a commissary, the ushers can wear orange jumpsuits, there’s so many thematic possibilities that will make renovating the prison worth it. Sure it may be morally questionable but we’re in the sports business; morals don’t exist here.

Luca only cares for a few amenities in the arena. Firstly, the training room needs to be advanced. I'm talking about advanced computer system that monitor everything from blood pressure to the amount of sweat coming off the bodies. Secondly, a state of the art kitchen compete with brick oven. Luca needs a place to bake the team's pizza and other foods. Luca likes to take over for the chef about once a month to do this. Thirdly, the video room needs to have nice reclining chairs and a huge screen to watch these games on. Luca wants a movie theater experience. Throw some popcorn into the mix and it is going to be a good day watching old games. One of the last amenities the arena needs is a big one. The team needs to have access to the roof. On the roof will have a full size roller rink complete with benches and netting. Think of this as an outdoor practice rink but for fun!

Okay, Duncan Mackenzie is pretty pumped that Calgary is getting a new arena. It is vital for the people of this city that they continue to have hockey to watch. When asked what the new arena should be called he makes sure to weigh in with his opinion, which is also the only right answer: The Big Parm 2, 2 Big 2 Parm. The Arena will be located slightly North of the city, catching all the suburbs of Calgary and being easily accessible by those coming down from Red Deer along the Number 2 Highway. Even those with good taste who live in Edmonton (spits), can head down the two with ease and be at the arena in only two hours. The Arena District will have a complete shopping mall and hotel attached. This will allow it to be a net positive for the natives of suburbian hell who live in the area on non-game days as well as attracting a crowd before and after games. The hotel can be used by opposing teams and by fans from out of town who want to spend their sweet sweet money on the best franchise in the SHL.

Miguel Hefeweizen loves him some amenities. One of the things that is really important to him is the weight room. Miguel has always been a weight lifting junkie, and he likes nice weights. While he has lifted in garages, basements, and dank, dark warehouse buildings set up as weight rooms, he much prefers a nice room with good ventilation and climate control. Lifting in a humid pit of sweat floating through the air is definitely not his thing. He doesn't really care much if there are TVs or a sound system cause he brings his own tunes. One other thing that Miguel would love to see is a nice place to take a nap. SHL players often have grueling training and traveling schedules, and a nice quiet, cool, comfortable area to catch a quick snooze can do a lot to make a long day, week, or season, a lot more bearable. Perhaps some quiet rooms with comfy recliners would be the ticket here.
