Minnesota GM Hiring Reaction

I ate shit on the site for WEEKS for running NOLA's tactics and "breaking the sim" and it was such a negative experience that I stepped away from the league for a long time.

When I came back I avoided the forums and just updated, did what I needed to do to participate and found that I enjoyed the league much more.

I'm also older now, and I realize that we're all ostensibly on this site, in this league, to have a good time. Being HO, management, IIHF HO, banking team, fuckin media team, whatever, you name it, you're willingly giving up some of your enjoyment of the league and free time in the effort to make things run smoothly and (hopefully) improve the experience for other users. When you're in league management, you realize that every decision you make has positive and negative effects, but you still do what you think is best for the league knowing that some decisions will be unpopular and you'll have to put up with it.

I used to think it's outrageous for HO to lock a thread where people are "sharing their opinions" about a "controversial hire/decision/punishment", but now I realize that it's just the same screeching and arguments every time over every decision and it's not productive. It's just screaming into the void. You're just yelling at HO because they let you, and then yelling some more when they don't. It's lose/lose for them.

These are people sacrificing their free time to make the site more enjoyable for the majority of people. Sorry your guy didn't get picked. Doesn't give you an excuse to drag people down to your level. Move on.

Exploiting a sim is a bit different from making this rare move for a current member of HO instead of the coGM

Waters, sorry this sucks dude. It’s clear you poured your heart into the team.

I appreciate how you made it clear this wronged you. you said it better than most could, express your disappointment, said why you can’t easily move on from this, and left it for HO to process.

We could all learn from that

These players wanted to band together behind waters to move minny forward, and this just comes off like HO was willing to disregard how they felt entirely just because of the team's past repeating cycles of failure. Minnesota went through a shitshow offseason where no one really knew what was going on, Waters navigated that best he could as interim GM, and had the full support of the team as a result. To me that matters more than who a perceived "better candidate" might've been in HO's eyes, and its a gross misstep in the process to not consider those who make up the tight core of the team right now.

This is not to knock Cord as a GM at all, I know he is a very able GM, and he was robbed not getting one of the expansion spots after all. This just feels like a blatant disregard of the shared feelings of an entire team, and it appears like its manifesting itself in people wanting to leave when they were excited for the upcoming process

Trying to start an insurrection is not going to make you more likely to get signed.

Do it, it works really good for meal prep too. The sauce really thickens up well.

For the record, there are people who think you guys operated with the best intentions to win, without exploiting the sim as you operated within the rules if this was in reference to FHM6. I am one of those people. Plus it's not like both parties in the finals were not running entirely 1 type of role for the specific position but that's old news.  I'm bummed that's the reason why you weren't part of the site for such a long time and am glad you're back.

I never argued otherwise, my point wasn't about what I did, but about how much this community can really, really suck and make the place horrible to be. Everyone seems to think that they're having a 1 on 1 with HO, or the GM, or whoever, when realistically they're getting dogpiled on by 15, 20 dudes, all saying negative shit and intentionally missing various points/arguing in bad faith. Until you're in the hotseat, you don't realize how bad it can be.

It's toxic and it pushes people away from the league.

I don't think it's unreasonable for HO to put a cap on it. They're not your punching bag. Nobody here is your punching bag.

Also, as an aside, I didn't defend myself at the time because 1) I didn't feel like it would have mattered and 2) I knew that I was going to be stepping away anyway. But the whole "frithjofr rule" thing, that came about because we tried to tell HO at the time about an exploit we saw two other teams doing in pre-season, and were told by HO that it wouldn't work in regular season, and we were free to try it and to "prove them wrong".
