In the NHL teams make trades for a whole variety of reasons beyond just trying to win the cup (playoff revenue etc) but those incentives do not really exist in a league that is just for fun. There is not too much of a difference between missing the playoffs and making the first round. I think that is okay in a league that is more about community than anything

An active SHL trade deadline would be amazing. I think that if there were stricter salary caps or if players could negotiate higher salaries than $6mil per season, it would lead to teams making tougher decisions and teams needing to trade some guys to make room in the salary cap.

In the SHL, players tend to be loyal to their teams and the cap doesn’t seem to be rarely a problem. Increasing the minimum salaries for each TPE points would at least force teams to make a decision about their upcoming UFAs and choose which one they would keep or not which could result in trades, because they don’t want to lose their upcoming UFAs for nothing.

Only way to generate more buzz and activity at the Trade Deadline in my eyes is expand rosters by 2 or 3 players. I'm not sure if that is even feasible in FHM, but it would allow teams to move players on expiring contracts for picks or players if they so wish

Not sure what the SHL can do to entice more deals to be made before the TDL compared to the NHL, this is a community based league and all contracts are already fixed at start of the season. FHM chemistry is very important as well so believe that is one of the reasons why teams don't really make moves mid-season in order to keep the team's chemistry in tact.

I always love the idea of being traded in these kinds of leagues, but really you end up making close bonds with a lot of your teammates and GMs which makes it harder. I think the playoffs would have to be tighter and there'd need to be some sort of financial incentives/balances to really encourage people to make those big moves for a chance at the cup when their window is truly open. What those would be? Idk man that's why I'm not in charge.

I think that trading should be encouraged. The whole point, for me at least, is to experience different communities, and different teams and enjoy the entire SHL experience. Especially in the juniors, if you are in your 3rd or 4th season and your team isn't going to win, you should want to get a little taste of another team and maybe even try to win a cup. I'm not sure how to fix it, I know that chemistry plays a big part in the team's construction and you don't want to mess with that.

I think maybe one of those new "talk shows" leading up to the deadline would be pretty cool, or even the day-of to generate some more interest. I don't think there needs to be "more" trades though, plenty of movement typically happens.

There should be a better way to highlight trades that happen in the league. The forum doesn’t get action as much as it should.
Maybe a weekly podcast about the shl that goes over the league happenings that were available on pod cats platforms ![]() Registered Senior Member
I do not really have enough time in the league to know any better, but I am sure that the SHL trade deadline needs way more hotdogs.

I would love to see free agency and the trade deadline be more impactful on the league. However, with the seasons being as short as they are I do not see a feasable way for it to happen.

Before becoming a GM I thought moving people was easy or should be easy. Now that I am a GM, moving people is hard because their your friends but you wanna see them do good things. I don't really have an answer to this, just that I wish it was easier but I understand why it isn't.

How the J is currently setup it's almost always better to draft and develop rather than to trade picks for rentals. Especially when you don't know the size of the draft class until draft day it's hard to value how much your picks are actually going to be worth.

Its not just the trade deadline, where there is no movement. Also during the off season there could be more (meaningful) movement. Expansion may helpo with this, as teams may be forced to field more IAs, so if an active player becomes available (even if they're not a top earner) teams might be more inclined to bid on them.
