S50 PT #4 - Skills Competition

#3. Austin Roenick would obviously train to be the best in the most accurate shot challenge. The fastest skater you know, he is a pretty fast player but he is not the fastest player in the league so there is no point in trying to train your speed and your skating. Best shootout goalie, if Roenick was a goalie he would try to go for that he is not a goalie so that challenge is pretty useless to him unless he has to do the shootout but he will not. The most accurate show challenge is where he excells. Austin Roenick wants to be the best shooter in the league and in his rookie season, he already has 21 goals which is very good for a rookie. He wants to show that he has the potential to be the best shooter in the league and he will obviously train his accuracy and the way he shoots the puck even better. It will go good in the future.

I was surprised to hear that I had been selected to participate in all star weekend festivities, and especially that they asked me to take part in the most accurate shot competition in the skills show. With that said, I'm pretty proud of how good my shot has gotten since breaking into the league, and it was a real honour to be picked on account of me leading all defenders in goals this season. I began preparing for my turn in the event in probably the simplest way possible: I just stayed out after practice each morning firing pucks from the slot. I feel pretty confident shooting from this area as that's where I typically find myself scoring from, so now I just begin to focus purely on the four corners of the net. After a while I ask a few teammates to pass me the puck so I can perfect the catch and shoot motion that will be happening during the event. After a couple of weeks of dedicated practice, I'm feeling good about it and looking forward to trying to win the event over some of the most dangerous forwards in the league

Kata Vilde has never been particularly adept at stopping shootout goals. In the past couple seasons he has made a concerted effort to train more in this area but apparently Simon has not been impressed with said training. A goalie must have cat like reflexes and be extremely flexible in order to make the spectacular saves so as stated in the last PT, Vilde has been utilizing the DDP Yoga system brought into vogue by former professional wrestler Diamond Dallas Page. This program has helped several former pro athletes regain their flexibility and lead better lives. It also is keeping current athletes in the game past their primes which is something Vilde would really like to take advantage of. As the season has progressed Vilde has been playing a bit better after an abysmal start. The progress was seen in the shootout skills competition where Vilde was in the upper third of SHL goalies. Still room to improve but definitely a marked improvement over his abysmal skills previously.

Best Shootout Goalie

For the All Star Game Skills competition I would definitely be training with the top guys on my team. The goal would be to not allow any goals obviously. However, I would do sets of 5 shooters every 5 minutes coming down and trying to score on me. Basically the shootout drill for the goalies is making sure you get max reps. It's hard because the player has all the ability to be creative and the goalie doesn't really have any. That being said the one mission for us goaltenders is to strictly stop the puck. I would have many chances and try not to overthink things. When overthinking you take your mind out of the play and any sudden deke will allow you to get beat. This practice would really just be repetition and making sure I have my posts covered. Recognizing when a shooter is going to wrist it in or get closer.

Written Option #1
If you are going to pick four player to compete in the most accurate shot competition for the Season 50 SHL all-star break you need to look no further than the team scoring of the Sim index.  A quick analysis of that page show the four players I would choose. Every player on this list has shot percentage greater than 14% and has taken more than 140 shots and those player are the following:

-Piotr Czerkawski of the New Orleans Specter who has 191 shots with a shooting percentage of 14.14% through 49 games.

-Mika Kandinsky ® of the Toronto North Stars who has 177 shots with a shooting percentage of 14.12% through 49 games.

-Gabriel Wong of the West Kendall Platoon who has 162 shots with a shooting percentage of 14.20% through 49 games.

-Austin Roenick ® of the Tampa Bay Barracuda who has 143 shots with a shooting percentage of 14.69%.

Shockingly two of the four player I would select for the competition are rookies.

Written Option #3: Imagine that your player has been selected to participate in one of the above competitions. Tell us how you'd prepare and train for the challenge and/or tell us about how the competition went for you. (150+ words)

It seems like a weekly occurrence that there is some error in some paperwork and Slip McScruff finds himself in a zany situation.  This time, he is selected for an all star skills competition.  If that wasn't wild enough, the skill competition he was selected for was Best Shootout Goalie.  They must have selected him for his propensity for blocking shots, although he has no experience in goalie pads or even a shootout in general.

Well, Slip got right to training so he could stand a fraction of a chance at the competition.  He got some large memory foam pillows and duck taped them to his shins because he doesn't own actual goalie gear.  He practiced at the batting cages since he didn't want any teammates seeing him flailing around.  It went ok, he eventually got to the point where he could shut out the baseball machine.

However, on the night of the competition, he came in dead last.  He could not stop a single penalty shot, every single one through his five hole.

Option #2

Benjamin Blue is one hundred percent the most likely candidate to win the award for top shootout goalie. He's an absolute stud, and is a major workhorse out on the ice. If you look at his history, he's been a strong goaltender his entire career and has been lights out all season long for the Barracuda. He could be a shoe in for goaltender of the year if he had a slightly higher save percentage, but his ability to stop the puck in one on one situations is undeniable. Blue is a stand up guy in every aspect of the game, and he will show that in this year's skills competition where he will be completely unbeatable by every shooter. My bold prediction for this year's competition is that Blue will manage to not allow a single goal against this entire competition, showing off his stellar talent undeniable shootout prowess

Written Option #1: For one of the above competitions, craft your ideal field of 4 contestants to compete in the challenge. Make your case as to why you're choosing these 4 to represent the elitest of the elite in this skill right now. (150+ words)

GOALTENDER SAVE SHOOTOUT/PENALTY SHOT COMPETITION YEAH!

KNOX BOOTH!!! THIS ROOKIE STARTER HAS AN ASTOUNDING .875 SV% ON PENALTY SHOTS (THOUGH ONLY 8 FACED) COULD THIS NEWCOMER KEEP UP HIS INCREDIBLE STOPPAGES AGAINST THE MOST FIERCE COMPETITION!!!!!!!

BEAUJEAUX BISCUIT!!!! WHILE HE MAY BE AS OLD AS THE GROUND WE WALK ON HIS SAVING SKILLS ARE QUITE SUPERB, WITH A .852 SV% ON 27 PENALTY SHOT ATTEMPTS!!!!!!!! MR. BISCUIT SHOULD BE AT EASE SAVING AS MANY AS HE CAN IN A ROW!!!!! ESPECIALLY IF HE IMAGINE THE PUCKS AS DELICIOUS BO BERRY BISCUITS!!!!!!!!!! YUM!!!

GEEZUS KRYYST!! THE HAMILTON MAN HAS AN OKAY .765 SV% ON PENALTY SHOTS, BUT HE CAN MAKE IT LOOK EASY WHEN THERE IS A PRIZE TO BE WON, AND BELIEVE ME THERE ARE SEVERAL!!!!!!! KRYYST COULD LIKELY FIND HIMSELF THE BRAND NEW OWNER OF A NICE SHINY [PRIZE AVAILABLE] IF HE PLAYS HIS CARDS RIGHT AND STOPS HIS SHOTS RIGHT!!!!

BENJAMIN BLUE!!! BLUE HAS NOT SEEMED LIKE A FISH OUT OF WATER IN NET FOR THE BARRACUDA THIS SEASON!!!! HE LEADS THE LEAGUE IN SHUTOUT AND HAS AN ASTONISHING 41 PENALTY SHOT ATTEMPTS AGAINST!!!!!! EXPECT GREAT THINGS FROM THIS NETMINDER!!!!!!!!!!!

Written Option #2: For one of the above competitions, what one player would you bet on to win it? Why are you picking them - what makes you think they have the best chance to take home the hardware? (150+ words)

Fastest Skater: Parker Smeb. This guy gets to watch Connor McDavid every game on TV, so of course he learns from the best and adapts his game after him. I see Parker training hard in the gym every day to work on his speed, and it definitely shows. I'd take him over anyone in the league right now, definitely the best skater in the game, and that's very impressive, especially for a young big guy like himself.

Most Accurate Shot: Parker Smeb. Once again Parker Smeb makes my list. I truly think he's the best player in the SHL BY FAR! No one even comes close to his shot and speed, he has it all. I see him going perfect in the targets and setting new SHL records for both speed and accuracy.

BEst shootout Goalie: I can't pick Parker so I'll go with Vilde. Just an overall solid goalie, probably the best in the SHL. I'd take him mostly because he's my teammate to be honest, but still, can't go wrong with vlidy.

Opt #3

Terrance Nova's most valued assets is his ability to shoot the puck so it only made sense that he was called in to play in the accuracy competition.

After each game before the competition, Nova would buy glass bottles and set them up in a dark alley way next to the arena and shoot with a blind fold on. Hitting the bottle would be 50 points and shattering them is 100. This would be the best possible way to train for the big competition Nova had determined.

Nova was against 4 other allstars and went last. The rules were simple, hit all 4 target on each corner, skater to hit all 4 targets with the least attempts wins. Nova missed every target 10 times. Then looking frustrated he went to the bench and got a piece of cloth and tied it around his eyes and hit 4/4 targets.

Even after the embarrassing show he put on, Nova was grateful to be a part of the star studded weekend and still be relevant many seasons after regression.

Doubt is a dream killer

A couple of days before the start of the All-Star Game, I found out that me, Mikael Choybuk, had been selected to participate in the Accurate Shot Competition. Somebody that was supposed to participate was injured, and so I was a call-up and one of the first people to confirm that was eligible to go. I have 16 goals in the SHL, so I guess I am decent at shooting, but I never thought I'd be able to go up against the best in the business. Training for this, I was able to ask the best in the Dragons organization, with help from guys like Esa Anrikkanen, Mike Izzy, and Pedersen. Lots of chicken parms were eaten during my training as well. During the competition, I was really nervous, but I was unable to win. I was 3/3 on the first 3 targets, but I took too long to hit the last ones. I don't know what happened, as usually I am money if there are no goalies or players involved. It must have been the huge audience and all the All-Stars in attendance.

First off, Jon gets snubbed in the SHL so him getting chosen would not happen. However, let us pretend the popularity contest fucks up and lets Jon Forty-One in to participate. Jon would hardcore practice the most accurate shot contest since he will not be beating the truly fast players of this league in speed and he is not a goalie so past shooting in shootouts which he has a decent ability in he must train for this. Jon would ultimately not give 2 shits though and would probably try to injure 1 of the stars from 1 of the teams he wants revenge against. That would be a special moment instead.

Could Jon win Most Accurate Shots event? Possibly. A lot of good shooters exist in this league but Jon is heavily determined and when he sets his mind to something he has usually completely his goal so maybe not this season all-star event but down the line he most likely could win it all whilst being a dick.

If I'm picking 4 players to compete in the fastest skater contest, I'm starting out with Bobby Watson. Bobby has absolutely lethal speed- it's been the core component to all the times he's topped the charts for points and goals. Once Bobby has the puck, if you're a stride behind, you're done.

Secondly, I'm adding GOD McZehrl. People seem to have been shocked by his transition to the wing from defence- I can't possibly imagine why, considering where the previous two McZehrls specialised. GOD can haul ass and reliably be where he needed to be at both ends of the ice, which is what made him such a great offensive defenceman in the first place.

Thirdly, I'm bringing in Cameron Carter II. He's best known for his checking, but the man can check anyone- and hit them damn hard. He does that because he can catch them, and to catch them, he has to be really, really fast.

For the final slot, I eventually settled on Goku Muerto. Goku creates a breakaway almost every single game, and when his puck handling skills catch up to his feet, he's going to score all the goals. All of em.

The SHL is introducting a skills competition this season, and one of the most anticipated events is the shooting accuracy challenge. There a plenty of elite snipers in the SHL, but only a select few will be chosen. First up would be Piotr Czerkawski of the New Orleans Specters, who led the league in goals with 27 while boasting a shooting percentage of 14%. The next contestant would be Mika Kandinsky, the hot shot rookie from the North Stars. Kandinsky had a record setting rookie season, scoring 26 goals, and looks set to be the newest SHL superstar. Our third contestant would be Mike Izzy of the Dragons, who has been the league's best and most consistent player over the past seasons and is a perennial 20 goal scorer. Our final contestant id a defenseman, Tor Tuck, who scored 15 goals this past season while leading the league with a 16.3% shooting percentage.
