S47 Championship Week

Task 01: (Written, 3 TPE)
You are at the airport awaiting a flight to meet back up with your team after spending the day being honoured as a 'Hometown Hero' in the place where you grew up! Tell us about your day... what did they have planned for you? Who did you see there? What were you given? How did it turn out? ... In 150 words or more, tell us all about this big moment as hometown hero.

Being a British Bro from London, Harvey Danger rarely comes home because Texas is very far away. After winning silver in the previous World Championships with the United Kingdom (Or Great Britain or whatever), he became somewhat of a hero being on that team, and the United Kingdom wanted to celebrate him for some reason. First, breakfast with the Queen. Sorry, dinner with the Queen's eldest housekeeper's grand son. It was pretty cool, but Harvey had to wake up pretty early. After that, the Mayor came down and gave Harvey a key to the city. Well, a city, not in London, but somewhere in the North that Harvey will never go to. Oh well, maybe when he is retired. Then, it was dinner time. At the airport. At a Starbucks, but Harvey met a cool football player there. He may have played for Liverpool. Overall, a pretty cool day in his hometown for Harvey Danger. Task 05: (Written, up to 6 TPE)
Pick up to 6 challenge cup related topics to write about! Each topic is worth '1' TPE. Each answer must be '50' words or more.

1. Breakdown this finals matchup for us, how will it play out? who will be the stars of this series, what will the outcome be? (*tag anyone involved)
If I had to guess, I would think that the Calgary Dragons are going to come out and destroy West Kendall. It will not be even close, and I think that the Platoon will likely quit after game 3. Mike Izzy is going to light up Biscuit and be named MVP. There is no chance things will happen differently. (59)

5. After trading off there best players and declaring themselves in a full rebuild back in S45, The Calgary Dragons have made it to the S47 finals.. just 2 seasons later. Choose: ('No surprise', 'mild surprise', 'major surprise' or 'in shock') and explain why.
Mild surprise, although they traded off their old forwards who they were going to lose anyways, so it was hardly a "full rebuild". They can say it as much as they want but nobody is impressed because it was hardly a full rebuild. Now I'm just mad that this question was included. It is impressive that they are in the finals though, I'll give them that. (66)

6. Which young players in this series (S42-S47) have a chance to break out and make a name for themselves here in the Challenge Cup Finals? (*Tag that player)
For the West Kendall Platoon, Rex Kirkby (the good British boy) has a chance to break out in this series, even though he is a little on the older side. Good sturdy defenseman. For the Calgary Dragons, it is Maxime Bouchard. Playing on the second line with Rainbow Dash gives the Dragons an interesting look, and I am sure they have both contributed well. (64)

8. Star netminders Kata Vilde and Beaujeaux Biscuit have both carried there teams into the finals. Which franchise goalie has a better chance to carry their franchise to a title?
Beaujeaux Biscuit is the better goaltender, as he put up some unreal numbers in the playoffs that only got better after the sweep against Calgary. 1.83 GAA? 0.941 SV%? 4 Shutouts? He was first star for his team is 5 out of their 15 games and deserves Most Valuable Player if he has not already been given it. (58)

Task 09: (Written, 3 TPE)
Which organization that didnt make it to the finals would you consider to be the biggest disappointment? What do you think are the main reasons why they fell short this season? (Must be 150 words or more)

The Texas Renegades are the team that did not make the finals that were the biggest disappointment. A team that dismantled the San Francisco Pride in the wildcard round, then the big upset (to everybody else) of the New Orleans Specters. Nola was the team that everybody saw coming out of the Western Conference, but Texas knew that this was a matchup that they were not going to lose. Then the Dragon's series hit, and they lost hard. It was tough seeing the Dragons get swept by the Platoon, because the Renegades could have handled West Kendall better. They fell short because their offense dried up and their defense could not keep the puck out of the net. The secondary offense dried up and the team lost the special teams battle. They blew it good, and it was so disappointing because it is not going to get easier for Texas. They have some players coming up on regression, so who knows if this was their window and whether or not it has been closed. (174)

Task 11: (Written, 3 TPE)
Writers on the internet have jokingly tossed around the following playoff roster idea: "when a team eliminates another team, they get to claim a player from that eliminated team to join their roster" Pretend the SHL has adopted this rule this postseason. Pick one of the teams in the Challenge Cup final and pick any player from a team that they've eliminated to add to their roster for the finals. Why did they choose that player? How will this player help out? Where will they play in the lineup? (must be 150 words or more, *tag all players)

Those writers on the internet are always joking. Okay, so if the Texas Renegades eliminated the New Orleans Specters, they would have taken league leading goal scorer Demaricus Smyth. A top line center who can put the puck in the net. Assuming that Calgary still eliminated Texas with Smyth, Calgary would have taken Smyth as well. A 1-2 center punch of Mike Izzy and Demaricus Smyth would have changed everything for the Dragons, and they may even have won a game in the finals. Mike Izzy can stay on the 1st line, but a Smyth - Rainbow Dash - Maxime Bouchard second line would have been bananas. Smyth could also play on the first power play unit, perhaps on the point, which would have given them a different look, and perhaps West Kendall would have been tripped up and again, they may only have won in 5 games instead of 4. Task 13: MAILED PT DIRECTOR (3 TPE, 6 Total)

Task 1: (3 TPE, 9 Total) Task 1: Being considered a “Hometown Hero” was a very awkward scenario for Joe K. Having to go to Buffalo to be honored as the city’s favorite hockey playing son is incredibly awesome but considering that I’ve never played for the Buffalo Stampede AND I’m pretty sure they hate me, it was a little weird. I’ve been back to Buffalo a million times in my playing career, as I spent most of my offseasons there. I was being honored for my career thus far, and that was including a lot of my Team USA acheivements as well. This time, there was a little bit more heckling. It’s understandable when you consider that just last season my New Orleans Specters were beaten in Game 7 of the Challenge Cup Finals by the Stampede to give my city its first ever major sports championship. For the Buffalo fans though, its all in good fun. I’ve brought the Cup home to Buffalo with me after winning it in Calgary and Edmonton, so it was nice to see that part of the celebration were the fans showing me their cup, as opposed to me showing them mine. Great times. (193)

Task 9: (3 TPE, 12 Total) The New Orleans Specters have got to be the biggest disappointment for not making it to the Challenge Cup finals. One season after losing in Game 7 of the finals, the Specters would go on to be the highest seed in the Western Conference playoffs. That would prove to not matter, as the Specters would lose to the Texas Renegades in 7 games in the conference semi-finals. Why did that happen? Texas found some luck, winning a few games that perhaps they shouldn’t have. They won twice in OT, and stole Game 1 when they were outplayed by New Orleans. It was a disappointing result for the New Orleans squad, which boasts a roster full of superstars. There wasn’t a specific reason for the loss other than some bad bounces that didn’t go the Specters’ way. They still have a very good offense, and a great goalie. The defense is still very solid, although regression is depleting that quickly. Hopefully its just a minor hiccup and not a sign of a bleak future. (175)

Task 01: (Written, 3 TPE)

Trevor Wilson was born and raised in Kelowna, British Columbia and was lucky enough to play for his hometown team the Kelowna Knights during juniors. So he got to come back to town as an ex-fan favourite who has gone on to accomplish an outstanding career. To commemorate this career and his most recent cup victory, a ceremony was thrown for Wilson by the city. The event included a couple speeches and a minor parade with the Challenge Cup. Wilson used this opportunity to try and promote hockey even further in the already hockey obsessed Okanagan. It was also most likely one of Wilson’s last chances to address a crowd of this size as a current player. He said his good byes, hinting that retirement is coming and it’s just hard to finally call it quits. But, he thanked his hometown for all the support they have shown over the past 19 seasons.

TASK 5

4. Beauxjeaux Biscuit will be the difference maker in this series. He is looking like the best goalie in the league right now, and almost single handedly won West Kendall the series against Buffalo. If Biscuit continues to play as he has been there is absolutely no way that Calgary can win. Calgary could completely dominate the games but as long as Biscuit decides that he’s going to win there’s nothing Calgary can do.

TASK 9

The most disappointing team in the playoffs this season has got to be the New Orleans Spectors. They came into the finals as the best team in the West with 69 points and 2nd overall in the league. This clearly did not translate to the playoffs where they lost to Texas. Texas came in as a wildcard and had to start the playoffs with a series against San Francisco. Maybe this was the best thing for them as it kept them in top form. Regardless, the Specters will need to have a look inwards this offseason to see where things went wrong for them. Credit can be given that at least the series went to game 7, they didn’t completely keel over by being swept. But, a first round exit is still a first round exit. Will they come back better or will they come back as a middling team, only the Specters can figure that out.

TASK 11

Looking at West Kendall, their forward core is absolutely stacked so grabbing a forward from one of the teams they dispatched may not fit in as well. West Kendall would probably look at finding another depth defender. Taking Alexis Metzler, one of the best defensive dmen in the league, off the Stampede would be a huge add. Metzler provides just one more person on the back end who can help shut down Calgary’s offence coming into the finals. West Kendall doesn’t need a star who is going to lead them, they have plenty of those, but a steady calming personality always helps. Another key factor is that he is a veteran, he’s been there before and knows how to handle the adversity like most of the rest of West Kendall’s roster. He is from around the same time period as Light and Wilson so this should help him fit into the locker room too. Knowing some of the members of the team cannot be understated. I feel that this add would almost all but guarantee a Challenge Cup for West Kendall.

TASK 12

West Kendall Platoon had a very close call during the Eastern conference finals, going down 3-1 to the Stampede. I thought it was over and we were finishing the season disappointed again. The atmosphere in the LR after losing game 4 was demoralizing, it was basically over. But being the best team in the league during the regular season WKP was the best equipped to deal with this deficit. On the back of the best goalie in the league, we were miraculously able to squeak out 3 straight wins propelling us into the finals with even more confidence. Despite being a difficult time, I think this really helped to refocus the team and remind us just how strong of a team we are. It also made a statement to the Dragons that Bojo is going to be a problem for them this series. Bojo deserves playoff MVP just for the semi finals alone, not to mention all his other exceptional performances.

I found out shortly after getting knocked out of the SMJHL playoffs that I'd be called up next season to Buffalo. I got a chance to sit in the press box for a few playoff games and I'm so ready for the atmosphere. I love the fans in Kelowna, but there's something surreal about a stadium 3x bigger completely packed with your home fans. I've really honed in on my positional game to make sure that even in the show I'm not a defensive liability. I still need to work quite a bit on my puck handling; they're so fast in the SHL and you barely have a millisecond to handle the puck and go. Even though I'm a natural Center, I've stopped focusing on faceoffs for the time being, since I've alreayd been playing wing for a while and will continue for a while in the SHL. I practice here and there with my teammates just to make sure I don't get too rusty (never hurts to have a good faceoff guy on the wing in case you get your center thrown out, either). I'm definitely going to miss my teammates in Kelowna, especially the younger ones since I won't get to see them as much as the other's who are also getting called up. It's going to be kind of fun to play against them actually, especially some of my linemates.

Task 05: (Written, 1 TPE)
8. Have to go with Beaujeaux Biscuit. Biscuit has shown us, season over season, what it means to be an elite goaltender in this league. Biscuit has multiple cup wins already, has shown up to play in both the regular season and the playoffs, and has put together a stellar playoff season this time around to boot. This is not a slightly at Vilde at all, Biscuit just has a leg up experience wise and too many accolades to ignore.

Task 09: (Written, 3 TPE)
This is a toss up between NOLA and Buffalo for me. They both had strong showings in the playoffs, but compared to everyone else they obviously had higher expectations than what was lived up to. While Buffalo's 3-1 lost lead is definitely disappointing, I'll go with NOLA as to not shit where I eat. After NOLA's cinderella run to the finals last season as an expansion team, they did manage to place well enough for a bye this time around. They lost in their first series to Texas in 7 games. The biggest reason was their lack of a "clutch" play. Two of the games went to Overtime, and both of those games went to Texas. They needed someone to step up when it mattered most in just one of those games and it didn't happen. Their defense and goaltending also came back down to earth compared to the super hero levels it was last year. So "disappointing" is a bit of a harsh word for this, but I think the bar was just set extremely high for NOLA.

Task 11: (Written, 3 TPE)
This is a toughie because there are a lot of good options, so I'm going to cheat and go with WKP picking up either Viktor Marius (@karey) or Charles Walker (@zombiewolf) after defeating Buffalo in the conference finals. Marius could slot in effectively anywhere but I could see him fitting really well into the 2nd line as to not disrupt their first lines chemistry. Marius brings a physical presence along with a keen ability to find the net that any team would chomp at the bit for. Walker would also be a solid pick to sure up their defensive unit. WKP's 2nd unit could definitely benefit from a nice beefy blue line boy, and more PP and PK depth with either of these players is a gaurentee. Then again, they might as well have just picked up me to have me sit up in the press box as a healthy scratch. They managed pretty well without any roster disruptions after beating us.

Task 12: (Written, 3 TPE)
WKP faced a huge amount of adversity in their previous series against Buffalo. After a quick sweep against Chicago, WKP was received a rude wakeup call, going down 0-2 against Buffalo, with their top line getting massacred in the 2nd game for a -3 in a 4-2 game. WKP got some life by just barely squeeking by in game 3 with a 1-0 win. Immediately after, heartbreak struck again, this time in overtime. Down 3-1 it seemed all but over for WKP, but they climbed out of their rut and snuck by Buffalo with two back to back 1 goal wins to force a game 7. In game 7, they (unfortunately) shut Buffalo out while scoring 3 of their own. WKP propelled themselves out of the grave all the way through, not losing a single game for the remainder of the playoffs after going down 3-1 to Buffalo. Pretty impressive turnaround.

Viktor Marius is a Hometown hero is Riga, having spent much time with the national team. The star is often regarded as a Hometown hero, but has been on record showing him tumultuous history with the Latvian national team over the years and has caused his patriotism to sway. Marius skipped all the events, got drunk with his GF, went out to town and signed autographs with fans at bars and clubs. Nobody was really upset as he was quite honest about how he was going to skip the official events and just enjoy being home. Many fans have already recieved autographs and shit from him, so many were obliging to his desire to just chill. Many shl stars spend their day doing meet and greets and ribbon ceremonies, Marius spends his time in his hometown as a hero by getting sloshed and dancing in the street, boots in the air, drowning in beer. Marius is not a kid anymore, and knows that there is much to prove in the shl and iihf before feeling the need to partake in the cerwmonies.

The West Kendall Platoon would have been abl to stock pile an incredible asset from Buffalo as the depth rich team has much to offer, however, none as enticing as Viko Marius. The lativan sniper has just entered his prime and has entered thi season coming off a 3 award season last year. His ability to hit, score, pass, and be a center makes him that boujee Swiss Army knife player that ever team covets. Marius would have aided an already deep team and added firepower to a potent offense, but would have also contributed by making bone crushing his and causing turnovers with his dramatic defensive ability.

Outside of Marius, west Kendall Platoon would also have luck and use for defensmen Tatu Makela. The Finnish defensmen Stallworth has been the backbone of the stampede roster, and would increase the formidable platoon, even if they were able to sweep the finals against Calgary.

Task 1: The hometown hero festivities began with a fundraising breakfast at the local IHop, one of Metcalf Jrs favorite breakfast spots on game days while growing up. He knew the management well and it felt nostalgic to see them again. Metcalf jr visited with people in the restaurant and did an autograph session. After IHOP, Metcalf Jr headed to his local rink and put on a “skater with a pro” which had a great turn out. A bunch of local kids showed up and had a fantastic time. After the event, Metcalf JR stayed at the rink to practice with his local high school team and helped coach a few drills. Finally, to end the night, Metcaslf Jr and his hometown buds headed down to the local watering hole to catch a few games of the Challenge Cup playoffs. Since it was the first year the pride made it this year, his buds jabbed him for being a wildcard exit. Overall it was a good day.

I believe it will be a dominate series by West Kendall Platoon. If I were to predict, I think the Platoon will take the finals 4 games to 1. The star-studded cast of WKP can’t be denied especially with an obvious goaltending advantage in Biscuit. Though the dragons, have talent, its not nearly as deep as West Kendall’s

Dom Montgomery grew up near Detroit, Michigan, so since the Falcons play there, there surprisingly are some Montgomery fans in the crowds at Falons vs. Halifax games during the regular season. On "Hometown Hero" day, the SMJHL planned a photo op with Montgomery and a couple other Detroit native SMJHL players. Montgomery saw his friends since childhood and a lot of family came out to celebrate him as well. There was a friends and family skate in the morning after a big breakfast banquet and Montgomery and others were able to say a couple words of gratitude to the crowd, followed by the photo op, and then Montgomery went to a local children's hospital to meet some excited hockey fans. He was given a silver puck with a "D" on it and a bunch of great memories from the event. Hopefully one day he'll deserve more hype to be called a "Hometown Hero."

If you are in the SMJHL then you have been there for at least a few seasons and its likely that a promotion to the SHL is coming soon. The question is.. are you ready?..  what areas of your game do you believe are SHL ready and what areas are you concerned about?  what things are you sad to leave behind and what things are you excited about when moving to your parent club. (Must be 150 words or more)
Dom has been in the SMJHL since season 44, so he's very ready to come up. His skating and defensive abilities are fairly SHL ready, but his strength and puck handling, for example, could use some help. Some time in the big boi league should help that out and help him see what areas need to be improved in his game. Dom has had a very exciting couple seasons in Halifax, but they were also stressful. Still, he wouldn't have wanted to be in any other place. A lot of his teammates/friends have either already been called up, traded, or are also getting called up this upcoming season, so I think he's ready to move on, but he'll miss feeling the great vibes in the locker room after an exciting win, the amazing bonds he formed with the leadership core, and the beautiful views in the city of Halifax. Moving onto the San Francisco Pride, he'll get a new ocean to view on off days, new friendships to form, and of course, the love of his life, Leo Lockhart, is there, so on days he's missing Halifax, he has someone to cozy up to and he'll be just fine.

1. Breakdown this finals matchup for us, how will it play out? who will be the stars of this series, what will the outcome be? (*tag anyone involved)
If I didn't already know what was going to happen, I would have chosen West Kendall Platoon to win it all anyway. They swept Chicago and then won against Buffalo who were also a beast this past season. If you can beat the reigning champs, then you've got a great shot. Pretty sure Beaujeaux Biscuit didn't a heckin amazing job. Sometimes you just need to compliment. @.bojo too. (WC: 68)

3. Which player in the finals should be considered their teams playoff MVP and which should be considered their teams unsung hero thus far and why?
Once again, Beaujeaux Biscuit was pretty stellar and it's rare that a goalie gets MVP, but he definitely would deserve it. After two losses, the Platoon came back with a one goal win but Biscuit made 32 saves in the shutout to help give his team the advantage. He had the best save percentage, GAA, along with most shutouts and wins, so just give him it already. Dani Forsberg in the second and third wins against Calgary also opened up scoring with a big "nope, we ain't losing this time," and had a lot of points for the Platoon before the finals. (WC: 102)

4. Which player do you believe will be the difference maker in their franchise winning the title here in S47?
Crossfit Jesus opened up scoring in the playoffs for West Kendall, helped open Platoon scoring in the second, third, and fourth games, and has been a trusted difference maker in past playoffs and regular season games, so there is no reason that he could not do it in the finals against Calgary. (WC: 52)

8. Star netminders Kata Vilde and Beaujeaux Biscuit have both carried there teams into the finals. Which franchise goalie has a better chance to carry their franchise to a title?
I do love me some Kata Vilde, but Beaujeaux Biscuit has just been killing it this playoff series. With four shutouts and the highest save percentage and best goals against average compared to other goalies, not to mention playing a couple less minutes than Kata Vilde in the playoffs, Biscuit has a good chance of carrying the Platoon to a cup victory. (WC: 62)

Not to talk about the West Kendall Platoon the entire time, but round three against the Buffalo Stampede really put some adversity in the Platoon's back pocket. If that is an okay way to phrase that. They lost the first two games and were out-shot on both of them, and then barely won game three with one goal, and then lost again 4-3, and to avoid elimination, had to win three games back to back, which is always hella stressful. The fifth and sixth games were won by one goals, which is very scary. By game seven, Buffalo was emo and the Platoon were able to win 3-0, but dang, talk about a hard fought victory for round three. This was definitely a different story compared to their games against the Chicago Syndicate and taught the West Kendall Platoon that for the finals, they cannot expect anything to happen easily for them.

1. Breakdown this finals matchup for us, how will it play out? who will be the stars of this series, what will the outcome be? (*tag anyone involved)

Both teams have some great players, but the absolute star for the West Kendall Platoon has to be Crossfit Jesus. The former jet is without a doubt the greatest player to have played the game, simply put. He is one of those rare players who elevates the play of the players around him, you know? Simply a pro, there is no other way to put it. As for Calgary, the Dragons have a great duo in Otis B. Driftwood and Shooter McGavin. Shooter looks great in green, but his one arm is slightly larger than the other. And Driftwood has an all-around talent that is deadly.
2. A major managerial showdown is about to take place Between WKP's (Jr95, Wongy) and Calgarys (Steelhead77, C00kies) which set of GM's have the tactical/managerial advantage in this series and why?
I don’t think there is an advantage towards one side or the other. All the General Managers involved built really solid teams, and they should be applauded for that. They grew a lot of players from the inside and managed to make trades without breaking the bank, which is a difficult thing to do in this league. I only would give West Kendall the edge because they have Crossfit Jesus who they got for a great price! With that being said, there is not much of an advantage, if any. I think the players are going to make the difference, and hopefully they all leave it out on the ice.

3. Which player in the finals should be considered their teams playoff MVP and which should be considered their teams unsung hero thus far and why?
Crossfit Jesus should be considered the MVP and Hero for West Kendall. Like I stated earlier, he brings his entire team up with his skill and work ethic. I think an unsung hero for Calgary would have to be Nicky Pedersen Jr. He leads the Dragons in Plus minus while having almost no PIMS and has a solid shooting %.
4. Which player do you believe will be the differance maker in their franchise winning the title here in S47?
5. After trading off there best players and declaring themselves in a full rebuild back in S45, The Calgary Dragons have made it to the S47 finals.. just 2 seasons later. Choose: ('No surprise', 'mild surprise', 'major surprise' or 'in shock') and explain why.

In shock- I am shocked that they managed to turn the team around so fast. Being a GM currently in a rebuild, it is suprising and refreshing to see a team manage to go from outside looking in to the finals so quickly. They drafted well, they got the right players at the right time, and they deserve to be in the finals.
6. Which young players in this series (S42-S47) have a chance to break out and make a name for themselves here in the Challenge Cup Finals? (*Tag that player)
7. The West Kendall Platoon are back in the finals after a season out of the playoffs and a team that was in serious regression Choose: ('No surprise', 'mild surprise', 'major surprise' or 'in shock') and explain why.

Mild Surprise – I would say that while being in regression can certainly hurt a team, WKP is timeless, and with that, are much like the old Russian teams. They know how to play together, have been doing it for years, and that isn’t going to break down because of age. Hopefully they have enough in the tank to continue to go the distance, but we will see.
8. Star netminders Kata Vilde and Beaujeaux Biscuit have both carried there teams into the finals. Which franchise goalie has a better chance to carry their franchise to a title? They both have titles right? If not, I’d be shocked.

Anyway, I have to go with Biscuit. With no offense intended towards Kata, Biscuit has been a name that has haunted me in my sleep season after season. They are just way too good at stopping the puck. As of this writing, BB is sitting at a .941 save % with a 1.83 GAA. No one is close to them. No one is going to get close to them. Period.

Task 07: (Written, 3 TPE)
You have been given the responsibility of organizing the National Anthem(s) for both teams in the Challenge Cup Finals. With the entire world watching the league feels its imperative that who ever you choose really encapusates the persona of the team and their fanbase. In 150 words or more, let us know who you chose for both teams, why you believe they represent that franchise and anything notable about their performance,, IE outfits, accompaniment, etc.

For the Dragons, the Image Dragons come out. They bellow an auto tuned O Canada with random noises in the background. It is elegant in a meth addict mayor kind of way. From here, the lights turn off and all you hear is a “YEAHHH BOIIIII” as the Image Dragons are joined by Flavor Flav. He doesn’t know the words to the Star Spangled Banner, but instead just screams about clocks until the music stops. The confused crowd claps and the puck is dropped ASAP.

Task 09: (Written, 3 TPE)
Which organization that didnt make it to the finals would you consider to be the biggest disappointment? What do you think are the main reasons why they fell short this season? (Must be 150 words or more)

I have to pick the Winnipeg Jets. They (being me) didn’t make enough moves, depended too much on old out of date players, and frankly had lack luster line combos all season. We needed a big UFA and we didn’t get it. We tried to make moves but no one was willing to give us fair values or returns without trying to rob us. But we dressed an inferior team and it showed. This season will be better, and different, but we really got banged up in season and it showed. On a personal level, I have to play better with and without the puck. A shutdown style defenseman by stats, and a pass first player by design isn’t working as well as I had hoped. But with a little luck and a few UFA’s / RFAs we are very hopeful to be at least back in the dance soon.

Well, as I went back to my hometown, and spent the day there, I was able to go and revisit all the old shops and parks I went to, eat all the delicious food from my past, and just cherish my childhood, since it was a much better time back then than now is. But, nevertheless, I did such and got some major nostalgia feels, and absolutely loved it. Then, the next day, I was surprised with a parade on my behalf! I participated in it and was able to meet many fans and bring then much joy. Then, I went and spoke to some of my childhood friends. At the end of my time there, I went and donated a bunch of money, I don't know how much, and then bought a lot of gifts for everyone that I could. I then said my goodbyes and head off on my plane back to Tampa Bay.

1. Breakdown this finals matchup for us, how will it play out? who will be the stars of this series, what will the outcome be? (*tag anyone involved)
I believe that both teams have an equal chance of winning, the sim engine is wacko after all, but, both teams are skilled in many areas of play and can give the other team that they are facing a troublesome time in the cup finals match up. I think Crossfit will make a big appearance this series.

3. Which player in the finals should be considered their teams playoff MVP and which should be considered their teams unsung hero thus far and why?
I think Nicky Pedersen Jr. should be considered the Dragons MVP this playoff series. He currently has a plus minus of 12, while also being just under a point per game. But, Rainbow Dash also has a chance to be the MVP with a plus minus of 10 and 7 goals, leading the team in that category.

4. Which player do you believe will be the difference maker in their franchise winning the title here in S47?
I believe that both goalies, Beaujeaux Biscuit and Kata Vilde can affect the way this series plays out. Since they are both of the teams' goalies, they will obviously make or break this series. Some other important players on the ice this series will be Crossfit, Rainbow Dash, and Nicky Jr.

Task 12: (Written, 3 TPE)
Theres no path to the finals without a little bit of adversity. In 150 words or more, write about the adversity one of the teams faced on the road to the Challenge Cup Finals. (*tag anyone involved)

Well, the Kendall Platoon had some interesting road encounters, if you will. One day on the way back home for game 5 vs the Stampede, they met a herd of donkeys on the road, and that caused hours and hours of delay! Luckily, the players were able to ride them like a rodeo, and had tons of fun! Another fun trip they had was their many pit stops or visits that they made. One visit was a hockey rink, of course, another was a beautiful mountain range that they stopped by often. It was a large, Grande Canyon like mountain range that was famous for its beauty. Other pit stops they went to are bars, joints, pubs, clubs, etc. (but they don't want anyone to know about those trips!) This, is only just some of the many, many, stops and visits the Kendall Platoon made in their road trips in the playoffs.

@”Mike Izzy” is going to be one of the stars in this match-up as he has shown time and time again that he has what it takes to put his head down and grind on behalf of his career and legacy. Now that he is in the biggest of spotlights I think he is just going to work even harder.

2. A major managerial showdown is about to take place Between WKP's (Jr95, Wongy) and Calgarys (Steelhead77, C00kies) which set of GM's have the tactical/managerial advantage in this series and why?
This is a tough one as both general managers have some strong experience that should help them with their tactics. Obviously Steelhead77 is one of the oldest and most experienced guys around. However, JR95 is alleged to have a very intimate relationship with Simon T and I think that could give West Kendall a slight leg up; but it is close.

3. Which player in the finals should be considered their teams playoff MVP and which should be considered their teams unsung hero thus far and why?
The playoff MVP for Calgary is probably Rainbow Dash because of just how many goals he is putting up in the playoffs. At the end of the day, goals are what give teams wins and nothing else matters. On the flipside; you need a player willing to put their head down and work so the team can succeed and Shooter McGavin has been quietly putting up assists so Calgary can win games making him the unsung hero.

4. Which player do you believe will be the differance maker in their franchise winning the title here in S47?
I think that Otis B. Driftwood is going to be critical to the success of Calgary in the title match. First of all, Driftwood is one of the best offensive defensive players in these finals and that alone makes him a threat on the ice. However, I think even more critical is his efficiency with a 20%+ shot percentage. He is putting up solid points without taking an excessive number of shots.

5. After trading off there best players and declaring themselves in a full rebuild back in S45, The Calgary Dragons have made it to the S47 finals.. just 2 seasons later. Choose: ('No surprise', 'mild surprise', 'major surprise' or 'in shock') and explain why.
This is an easy one. I am going to go with no surprise here. I have been a vocal advocate that Steelhead is the best general manager in the league so him working some magic and turning the franchise back around so quickly is not a surprise to me at all, if anything I would say I would have expected him to do so.

8. Star netminders Kata Vilde and Beaujeaux Biscuit have both carried there teams into the finals. Which franchise goalie has a better chance to carry their franchise to a title?
I am going to give Beaujeaux Biscuit the nod here. He has made himself into a household name at the goalie position since my time in the league and I think that says a lot about his talent as a player. Vilde may be more of a cog in a machine whereas I would not be surprised to see Beaujeaux Biscuit shut down the Dragons for a few games and keep West Kendall in a few games all on his own.

I like this question because I think it is an easy choice. After Calgary defeated the Edmonton Blizzard they would have picked up Tor Tuck. There has been a not so private love connection between Tor Tuck and several players and members of management on the Calgary Dragons over the years and this would be Calgary’s opportunity to finally get their guy. Tor Tuck is a solid player who is in the twilight of his career but it looks like his talent will last for many more seasons making him an asset to the team that he originally believed would be drafting him. Tor Tuck would slot into the defensive lineup just about anywhere and make an improvement; gladly taking even second line minutes. While he has had some season where he was successful seeing the ice and getting the puck to scorers a new facet of his career has been smashing skulls. This would give Calgary some flexibility on if they want an enforcer out there sending a message to other players or a stout defender who can make plays on the offensive end.

Task 12: (Written, 3 TPE)
Theres no path to the finals without a little bit of adversity. In 150 words or more, write about the adversity one of the teams faced on the road to the Challenge Cup Finals. (*tag anyone involed)
Calgary faced an extremely talented group of teams on their way to the finals having to go through both the Edmonton Blizzard as well as the Texas Renegades. Both of these teams proved to be challenged that took a lot out of the Calgary players and front office due to their needs to prepare and strategize leading up to some hard fought series against teams that have arguably more physical talents and gifts on the ice. If those series were not enough to take their toll on the Dragons they were still plagued by chants about their rebranding fiasco when they traveled on the road throughout these playoffs. A simple misunderstanding got blown out of proportion but mentally drained some of the top minds in the Calgary organization. It is an impressive feat that the team was able to stay together and pull some upsets this far into the playoffs considering the inexperience of the new team

Task 1 (3 TPE)

Sopron, Hungary, has always been kind to Sanyi Kocsis, one of the leading faces of Hungarian hockey. Despite not being mobbed by fans, and enjoying a somewhat calm and relaxing day back home, the 21-year old was still recognized and appreciated by fans, both new and old, and spent some time both doing autographs and taking photos. Additionally, the youngster also was able to travel across his hometown to spend time with both his family and loved ones. After such a stressful season with Minnesota, it's quite clear that this was an overdue break for the young defenseman.

Various events had been planned anyways for Kocsis, such as a nice meet-up with a local youth hockey team, a dinner party with friends from Kocsis's childhood, and a brief training session with various SHL Hungarian players such as New England Wolfpack defensemen Jacob Geza and Thomas Bathory.

All in all, it was a simple but stress-relieving and welcome trip back home.

Task 5 (6 TPE)

1. Breakdown this finals matchup for us, how will it play out? who will be the stars of this series, what will the outcome be?

If you're not rooting for the Platoon, I don't know what you're thinking. The Platoon are coming into this series with one of the best put together rosters in a while. Despite Alex Light calling it lights out this off season, the veteran sniper is coming off of a pretty damn good regular season with 42 points. Additionally, Crossfit Jesus is rounding off a dominant 61 point season with the Platoon, who is supported by the defensive pillar of Ludwig Koch Schroder. And if you don't think that's enough, then a fantastic season by Beaujeaux Biscuit with a .911 SV% should be enough to convince you otherwise. (107 words)

3. Which player in the finals should be considered their teams playoff MVP and which should be considered their teams unsung hero thus far and why?

Beaujeaux Biscuit, without a doubt hands down, is the biggest unsung hero of the Platoon's playoff run. He's rolling along with a .941 SV% and a GAA of 1.83. This youngster is playing out. of. his. freaking. mind. Without Biscuit backstopping the Platoon, I don't see them managing past Chicago without difficulty, and see Buffalo winning that series. (58 words)

4. Which player do you believe will be the differance maker in their franchise winning the title here in S47?

Ludwig Koch Schroder. He's a dynamic two-way defenseman and one of the biggest reasons why the West Kendall Platoon are even in the Challenge Cup Finals in the first place. Being such a tough and intelligent defenseman to play against in the first place, it's no surprise he is one of the biggest drivers of the Platoon's offense and one of their biggest workhorses (both on ES situations, the PP, and the PK). (73 Words)

5. After trading off there best players and declaring themselves in a full rebuild back in S45, The Calgary Dragons have made it to the S47 finals.. just 2 seasons later.

Honestly, I don't know how the Dragons managed to get themselves in this position, I'm honest to goodness surprised at this. The team was in absolute shambles back in S45, but have rebounded in unbelievable ways with star performances from Driftwood (53 pts as a defenseman), Izzy (50 pts + 208 hits), and Vilde (.912 SV%). All-in-all, it's difficult to tell whether if it's the Dragons simply getting hot at the right time, or if this is the real deal. Regardless, they've done a complete 180 in just two seasons, and it's utterly ridiculous. (94 Words)

6. Which young players in this series (S42-S47) have a chance to break out and make a name for themselves here in the Challenge Cup Finals?

West Kendall Platoon defenseman Ethan Ross has had bursts of potential and quick decision making these playoffs, even though he has not shown up on the score sheet. While it's difficult to see how he can produce, Ross has had some key plays in the Platoon's playoff run and has shown why he was called up to the Platoon. Already he has shown to be a reliable penalty killer, a nice two-way presence for the Platoon's deep playoff run, and brings youthful depth to an otherwise veteran laden core. (89 Words)

@JR95

8. Star netminders Kata Vilde and Beaujeaux Biscuit have both carried there teams into the finals. Which franchise goalie has a better chance to carry their franchise to a title?

Sorry, no shots to Kata Vilde, but Beaujeaux Biscuit has simply been the more dominant goaltender in these playoffs. We're comparing Biscuit, a young goaltender with a .941 SV% and a 1.83 GAA, to Vilde, a .906 and a 3.07 GAA for these playoffs. While both teams have similar defence cores and firepower, it's simply been Biscuit's utter determination and skillset that has enabled him to emerge as the better goaltender of the two. And it shows, completely. (78 Words)

Task 9 (3 TPE)

I'm so sorry Jets fans, but if you cannot capitalize on a 58 point season from an aging Jason Visser, how the actual hell can you not leave this season without being considered one of the bigger disappointments?

Not only did this team have enough firepower to get into the playoffs, but my goodness they got beat out by the San Francisco Pride. Yeah, the same Pride that tossed a boatload of cash at Dakota Reid and have been the biggest laughing stock of the league since their Portland days.

And you're telling me the Jets couldn't beat such a clown show of a team to make the playoffs? Absolute absurdity.

On top of that, your goaltending situation, all things considered, was pretty damn good. Solid .904 and .905 from Moreau and the rookie LeBlanc respectively are pretty solid numbers. Additionally, your depth scoring was on the spot and your Top 4 defensemen were playing out of their minds the entire season.

So yeah, the biggest disappointment in my eyes were the Jets. They had everything to make the playoffs, but didn't.

Am I ready? Ready to step into the storied Buffalo Stampede as a rookie defenseman? Am I ready for the pressure? Hell yea. I will miss, however, the locker room of the Anchorage Armada. At least the weather will be the same though, dark and cold, so that won’t be anything new. At least I’ll get a little more sunlight and better Buffalo Wings. I really like Buffalo Wings, they’re super good. Also there’s probably more stuff t do in Buffalo than in Anchorage and its not a 6 hour plane ride from anything else on the planet. So overall, a little sad to leave Anchorage but overall totally not sad to leave Anchorage. About actually playing for the Stampede? I’ve been working on my fitness, I think I have more in the tank that what I’ve showed in Alaska, gotta lot of skills left on the table that I haven’t put into my game yet so I think I’ll be ok.

5. Well, its always a surprise when a team supposedly rebuilding makes the final, so I’d go with ‘major surprise’. I expected the Specters to come out into the Finals again so having them eliminated early was also a major surprise which may have contributed to this major surprise as well.
6. Maxime Bouchard @Weretarantula has a good chance to be a break out star because, well, due to my homer glasses Bouchard put up some crazy numbers with the Anchorage Armada and should continue to be a super star into the SHL. Everyone who comes out of Anchorage is tailor made for the SHL finals.
7. West Kendall Platoon would be a ‘no surprise’, but I did hope Buffalo would pull through to the finals. The West Kendall Platoon are a solid team, can’t say its surprising they are winning but it definitely wasn’t guaranteed. Gotta give it to Jr95 and Wongy for pulling the team through with some off season additions.
8. You can’t go wrong with a player like Biscuit. Biscuits are hard and solid, you can’t shoot something through a biscuit. I mean he’s go this thing in in the biscuit already. Also sounds like he’s French-Canadian, and you know those French-Canadians have had some good goalies like Roy in the past, so there’s gotta be something there.

Which organization that didnt make it to the finals would you consider to be the biggest disappointment? What do you think are the main reasons why they fell short this season? (Must be 150 words or more)

Well, obviously, the Buffalo Stampede not making the final was a big disappointment. They were the champs last year and just fell short in the playoffs from making another run at it. No good reason really, just didn’t have it this time around and sometimes the puck luck isn’t with you. I think they’ll go at it again next season with basically the same roster and make it to the finals again. Competition is tough but there isn’t any reason for the Stampede to fail this time around. Might have a few new rookies in the lineup too, but hopefully the limited playtime will be more positive than negative and let a little pressure of the vets with high playing time. Endurance can be a real thing in the playoffs, a little fresh blood might help with the load on both offense and defense. Don’t think they really need any FA signings, but never a reason to turn down a good deal if it presents itself.
