S48 PT #1 - SHL Draft Kit S48

Bold SHL predictions:
This article discusses some of our boldest predictions about the upcoming S48 season.

Biz Nasty will start the season backing up mccorsey in net for the Halifax raiders but then will cap out and take over the starting role again and post a 10 game winning streak with 4 shutouts and lead his team to a four star cup. We all know biz is a big deal even tho his trademarked phrase is “not a big deal” this is because he’s such a big deal he’s not a big deal. The guy is gonna be the best goalie to grace the SHL and will have trophy’s renamed after him and will likely force the league to change the goalie update scale so he’s not such a hack of a player. Lets be honest this is all bulllshit but I need word count so cloud words it is! But Biz is pretty sick and I wouldn’t be surprised if he impresses in the starter role for the raisers this season. Watch out SMJHL

Tough Guys and Enforcers:

Here we breakdown the hard hitters and league tough guys to target on draft day.

Most of know the big movers and shakers in the SHL when it comes to throwing the body around and dropping the gloves. We know The Mike Izzys and Viktor Mariuses are going to be gobbled up very quickly for those precious hit numbers. I want to talk to you about a value pick. Let's say it is final round of your draft and you need somebody to rack up some hits and fights. Check out Nat Emerson. Emerson is one of the least flashy players in the SHL but you could get some good value out of him with your closing picks. In the preseason Emerson finished with with 84 hits, good for second best on the West Kendall Platoon. Now I know that isn't outstanding what boosts him up is the fact that he dropped the gloves 4 times in the preseason which puts him in the top ten for fights taken. He went 2-0-2 in his fights which throws him in the top five for fights won. Word around town is that Emerson has mentioned he wants to get more into the physical game he played in the SMJHL. Since joining the SHL his focus has been mostly on his skating and positioning but now that he is close to topping out in those aspects he is looking to bring that fierceness back. As long as he can get enough ice time I see him hitting 100 hits and getting into at least 5 fights this year.

Tough Guys and Enforcers:

These are some of your number 1 targets for draft day. Getting those hits in will really boost your scores in your fantasy pools, and you really can't overlook it if you want to be successful. Here's a few players that should be at the top of your list! And a quick honourable mention to all Dar nominees and recipients!

Mike Izzy, S47 Dar winner! - Calgary
223 Hits in preseason, and hitting the bank on those sweet sweet fantasy points.

Viktor Marius - Buffalo
Surpassed Izzy in preseason, with an absolutely insane 228 Hits.

Lil Manius - Winnipeg
A newcomer to the elite ranks and just pushing through from the outskirts of the top echelon. 213 Hits in preseason make him a great choice.

Manuel Gotze - New England
A surprise entry to some, but put a huge 197 Hits up in preseason. Just 3 more man, you almost got there.

Cameron Carter II - Chicago
The final entry in the list with only 2 less than Manuel, for a total of 195. This guy will be on the Dar nomination radar in no time.

Where to get your Hits and Blocks in the draft:

In fantasy SHL, it's all about picking consistent players by looking back on the past seasons on how well they did on specific domains and also on good they can do on other domains. For hits and blocked shots forwards, you have to look at Mike Izzy. Everytime I can pick him, I do. He gets points and most importantly he gets hits, a league leading 205 for last season. Hits are worth their share of points and can compensate from a scoring deficiency in the season.

Another solid pick is Viktor Marius. He does it all as well and managed to get 195 hits last season. Again, variety is the key to win a fantasy group and relying on more stuff than jsut goal scored eliminates a part of the variance involved in a draft.

For later round picks, Cameron Carter is also a nice forward with projected upside. He has decent playtime and a bit like Izzy and Marius, he gets good numbers in every category. He also plays for an up and coming team which could cause surprises.

Where to get your Hits and Blocks in the draft:
Here we offer our take on who to target for your Hits and Blocks during your draft.

sure, we all know players who can score goals and put up assists will score you a fair share of fantasy points but who should you target to find a good balance in those other fantasy categories? ive compiled a shortlist of defensemen who put their body on the line this preseason to rack up the HITS and SHOTBLOCKS as well as put some points on the actual score board.

THE HITTER
Otis B. Driftwood Dragons
G- 5. A- 32. H- 180. SB- 68.
Otis is one of those guys that everyone notices out on the ice. easily a top-10 hitter, the opposition better keep their head up or theyre going to get steamrolled by him. he obviously isnt afraid to get in the way of the puck either and he does it all while chipping in a respectable amount of points for his team.

THE BLOCKER
Gary Grease Jets
G- 9. A- 38. H- 134. SB- 87.
coming in with the highest point total on the list we have Gary Grease who also put up the 4th most shot blocks with 87 this preseason. as if that wasnt enough of an upside he also checked other skaters 130+ times. Gary is absolutely an important piece and major contributor.

THE MULTI-TOOL
Tigole Bitties Wolfpack
G- 7. A- 33. H-149. SB- 76.
Bitties splits this list right down the middle. as you can see, he is in between Driftwood and Grease in legitimately every single category. truly one of the most versatile players in the league, he deserves all the recognition he gets.

Bold SHL predictions:

As we move slowly but surely into S48, we take a look at some bold predcitions that this season may bring. Let's jump right into it.

NOLA NO MORE. Perhaps the boldest of all predictions, all indications point to the Specters finally missing the playoffs this season, after a tremendous start to their franchise. Nearly 1/3 way through the season, they are clinging onto the last spot in the West, tied with Minnesota but holding the tiebreaker.

TEXAS SHINES. After several seasons of a rolling rebuild, the Renegades will make the playoffs once again and (bold prediction time) will finish the regular season with the best record in the league. West Kendall sits atop right now with 20 points, and Texas has 15 with a game in hand. Look for Texas to continue their climb upward.

GOALS GALORE. For the first time in a while, look for multiple players to put up 30+ goals. It's been a blistering start to the season, with Manius/Visser/Watson all on track to break the 30 goal plateau. Keep an eye out for Wilson, Bennett, Lombardi and Essellemm to make a mid-season push to the top of the goal-scoring ranks.

S48 Positional Battles:
The Hockey News draft guide takes a look at some of the leagues most exciting potential position battles for the upcoming season.

As of yet, it is still unclear which wingers will fill out the Chicago Syndicate's first two lines. At this juncture there is a bit of a logjam of wingers with similar skill sets and overall TPE. Ultimately, the final depth chart will be a fluid situation that will come down to who is gelling with whom, and who is producing points. The consensus top four wingers for the Syndicate are the newly acquired Cameron Carter II (TPE : 1113), Romualds Loks (TPE: 947), the salty vet Luke Atmey (TPE: 1236), and Jack Kennedy (TPE: 887). If I were to attempt to channel the Chicago coaching staffs' mindsets, I would predict that the coach treats their top six as lines 1A and 1B, and not as clear cut first lines and second. Expect the top six to receive fairly equal minutes in terms of ice time. With three of their top four wingers still not yet at their peak, perhaps expect Luke Atmey to receive some additional rest in hopes of a long shot playoff run down the stretch.

The Faceoff Report:
The SHL Hockey guide takes a look at some of the best and worst face off specialists in the game as well as those go to guys, sleeper picks and late round bargains when it comes to the men working towards maintaining the puck.

I don’t think there any surprise to see Robert Phelps from the Hamilton Steelhawks leading the Simulation Hockey league in faceoffs in the preseason. He’s leading with 58.10% closely followed by Mikhail Lokitonov (Toronto North Stars) at 57.47% and Dermot Lavelle (Buffalo Stampede) at 57.44% to close up the top three. All of them have over 1500 faceoff taken in the preseason, proving their domination at the dot. Another nice detail about them is the fact that they were all also leading their team in points during the preseason. The top 10 is finished with the following players Jax Aittokallio (Manhattan Rage), Paddy O’Sullivan (New Orleans Specters), Hercules Rockfeller (Edmonton Blizzard), DeMaricus Smyth (New Orleans Specters), Yannick Berger (Manhattan Rage), Eric Pelletier (Minnesota Chiefs) and Oisin Fletcher (New Orleans Specters).

The players who really need to work on their faceoff are the following: Alexander Selich (Buffalo Stampede) at 34.61% in 786 faceoffs, Kire Yelkrab (Minnesota Chiefs) at 34.00% in 703 faceoffs and the rookie Noah Gallagher (Winnipeg Jets) at 33.68% in 582 faceoffs.

Bold SHL predictions:

The Los Angeles Panthers will make the SHL Playoffs
The Los Angeles Panthers, widely considered to be the worst team in the Southwest division, will shock the SHL world this season by making the playoffs. They are in the middle of a transitional phase, having traded away franchise cornerstones such as Sophia Bennett and Mathew Auston among others over the course of the past season. However, they have a solid group of young players who are just entering their primes. Max Mauldin and Phillip Winter will taking over first line duties for the Panthers, and early indications show that they are capable of handling that role, with both players near a point per game. Additionally, they have Borromini Cannellini, perhaps the best prospect in the SHL coming into this season. Cannellini, despite being a rookie, is already playing big minutes for the Panthers. On the blue line, they're led by the SHL's most underrated defenseman, Jon Toner, who has quietly became a two-way stalwart for Los Angeles.

Bold SHL Predication:
The bold predication for season 48 will be that the Specters finally raise the cup. In their third season in the league @JKortesi81 and @thedangazone have finally put together the correct pieces to make it to the finals and win the cup. The Specters were unable to win the cup when they went to the finals in season 46 and had an early playoff exit in season 47 but season 48 is their year. This season 48 team consists up an elite goaltender in Cain, a great forward group that has added two young rookies, Fox and Slothface to an already deep forward core that has three solid lines. The weakest link of this team is the defense but New Orleans was able to call up their top two prospects and put them on the third line to save cap and get some experience under their belt; it will help for them to win the cup early to get a taste for future years.

SHL sleepers and undervalued players:
We give you some sleepers to pursue and value picks to consider in the upcoming league drafts.

There are a lot of great players in the Simulation Hockey League that truly do deserve the limelight and the stardom. These players have performed very well and they are superstars for a reason. However, not all players are created equal and some players will undoubtedly get less attention even if they consistently perform amazingly every season. These players are known as sleepers and can be the difference on your fantasy team. Getting good value out of your later picks can be the difference between winning and losing your fantasy group. One player that is a true sleeper and has quietly been one of the better players in the league for quite a few seasons now is controversial Texas Renegades player Logan Jensen. Logan "Money" Jensen has put up solid numbers for Texas for many seasons now in a reduced role, even hitting 50 points in Season 46. Jensen is a great layer to pick up if you need a late round steal. @Loganjj21

Bold SHL predictions:

This article discusses some of our boldest predictions about the upcoming S48 season

The Dragons are just going into there third season of a rebuild and have made it to the finals already. It’s safe to say that by bringing up so if their prospects, keeping their core around will maintaining there high grasp on the free agent market, they will most likely be more then just contenders again. Early results have them losing in over time and by one goal. There luck will turn around and they will go on a rampage across the lead before finally coming to rest with the cup firmly in their grasp. All the pieces are there, it’s now time to spring forth and make a long lasting impact on the league with the brand new super rebuild style that other teams will be copying for a while to come

Bold SHL predictions:

My Bold prediction is that Seattle.. I mean Tampa Bay will make the playoffs. All they need is Benjamin Blue is to be at his peak performance, and some players producing at their highest level they will. THey have drafted great their last couple seasons, and they are about to see the results. My other hot take is Manhattan wont make the playoffs. the hot take is that the coach doesnt have it in them to suceed at the SHL level. Their line combinations are uninspiring at best, and he doesnt have the will to win it. Not to mention their players have no leadership in them at all, and arent winners period. I hope I didnt see them draft a defensemen with their last 1st round pick, and draft no fucking forwards, its pathetic. Fuck you Manhattan Rage for drafting shitty players and people with no leadership. End hot take
