Has there been any time when actually punishment was cancelled after appeal?

If they trade some of the vets away, which probably will happen, they surely won't be without a first in the next five drafts.

True. But those are valuable assets for 1sts. Which, in all honestly, is what they will need to do now. But every team naturally has a 1st round selection. A lot of the trades they included their firsts in, like WiC said, have not paid much dividends. They traded for Crutchfield's rights. Nothing came from that and they lost a 1k+ defender in 701 along with the 1st. Then they trade up for Clint Eastwood. A player who will be good in the future, but the asset management was fairly bad there too.

So they can easily recoup picks. But it's at a price. And the more assets they sell off the better the future picks for teams like LA and Toronto look.

Not an easy situation for whoever takes over.

They'll pretty much be near last for a few seasons, but it's needed to get proper assets.

The new GM will need to think purely in asset management, something the previous GM's didn't do well.

A long time ago, back when there was a huge appeals committee, and it took a little bit longer to make a decision.

I know this has been said (I'm still on page 2) but seriously those guys who retired I hope you all feel like dumbasses now. Quitting on the corrupt SHL because the punishment was bullshit when the whole time your GM's were playing on borrowed time and trying not to get caught

This was bound to come crashing down on them, the SHL isn't as inept as they seem to think. Just sad you guys had to get caught up in the fire and then believe your GM that this was all a stupid mistake and that the league was doing this without just evidence

Happy to see these changes, I think it is good now. 2 firsts still sucks for the future GM's but you get a good one in there they can figure things out and make it work. We all know even if they were banned forever from holding a position in the future they'd be allowed regardless ala Abdeezy. So 3 seasons is fine lol

At the end of the day this is my main concern. Of course it's not the end of the world and is absolutely reparable, but at the same time it seems really unnecessary to take out punishment on a team for the gms mistakes *after the gm is gone*. It would be one thing if wally or Dunn were staying on, because it would truly be penalizing them for their cheating- but in this scenario removing picks doesn't hurt them, it only hurts the team and whoever is going to be coming in to clean up the mess now.

I mean I get it, but I just think it sucks.

I would originally agree with you, but knowing this went on for two seasons makes it much worse than I originally feared. One 1st for each season of fuckery seems fair.
Dammit WiC stop making sense. Yeah I could see that.

I tend to agree. I feel like it'd be different if they hadn't already traded picks for lacking assets. If they just had no firsts until S39 - well that's a bit easier to swallow. But this situation is a mess and the new GMs are going to have to get ready for some difficult roads ahead.

Los Angeles benefits. So it's nice for us. But I still feel bad for the players on Portland. They don't deserve shit like this for the mistakes of their GM.

It happens. That's why approving someone as GM of the team is a process and should remain one long-term. If anything, the requirements should become stricter.
