The problem is that Wally and Tweedle have been VERY loose with their pick management. We had their first last draft. We have one in S38. Toronto has one in S39. So we're looking at Portland being without a 1st round pick in S37, S38, S39, S40 and S41. Along with a lesser interest in the team if the players stick around (unless the new GM tandem is very well regarded around the site AND can sell the teams plans to vets).
So yeah, it's not a death sentence. But Portland has gone from a Western Conference favorite to a dumpster fire overnight. Dark times are ahead for that team and I can see a lot of vets wanting out.
With that being said. I'm not sad. The Portland circlejerk has been seasons long now and it's nice to see it coming crashing down. Behind the jerk seemed to be a mountain of lies and disloyalty.
I just don't think we should work around bad asset management from GMs. That's part of the league and sometimes teams are shit or have to rebuild. Someone has to be in last place, and the league can't let punishments slide because the team chose to put their eggs in the 'now' basket.

Portland will be fine, they just won't be a cup contender like they are now. It's not like drafts are only one round and I remember a time where 300 tpe players made shl teams. Losing 2 picks isn't scorching and salting the earth the stadium is built on. I've seen teams win cups with 6 forwards and 4 defense. You can stay competitive with a lean roster.
As for retirements, they happen. It's not HOs fault they happened, and retirements are a risk you take in a league like this. Again, the admirals are going to be behind losing some good prospects, but it frees up cap space for FAs. You can bring in players by offering more money.
Just need s solid face in there to help galatix.
Again, it sucks for the players but a team gets punished. If you see this happening on your team, speak out and prevent something like this happening to your team. Mistakes happen, I doubt the league is out there just fucking everyone. We should all be active in preventing cheating or advantages.

I guess that's fair. Still just seems crappy to dump it on the new gm though.
