The record for penalty minutes in a season may never be touched. The record is currently held by Seth Plaut with 261 PIM, followed in second also by Seth Plaut with 242 PIM. The reason this will probably never be touched is that the older seasons seemed to have favoured more penalty minutes. No one has broken 200 PIMs since S9, and even that is not really close to the record. The record was also set in a season where Plaut played 60 games, more than everyone else.There is only one season in the top 10 from modern times, when Danny Foster put up 193 in S35. He is also the only modern player to be represented in the top 50 seasons. Perhaps this is because of the new simming format or because no one in this modern era aims to get a high amount of PIMs. Regardless of the cause I don't see this record ever being broke under normal circumstances.

The record that is hardest to break is probably the applied TPE record of 2285 set by Jason Visser. I'm guessing Visser took advantage of extra opportunities no longer available to us from back in the day, such as extra PBPs or changed TPE gains from player tasks.

Top end earners in this generation of players can get 175 TPE a season, maybe 200 with some luck/skill/both in season and award predictions. Assuming those breaks happen, you could look at someone earning around 2000 TPE on top of the 155 to start with. Even if you start with a player after the SMJHL trade deadline for extra training and ACs, I'd say you'd be hard pressed to crack 2200 these days. The ideal player to break the record would be a first-gen creating after the deadline, doing all the early stuff, hitting every TPE opportunity, and being mentored by knowledgeable people to get big-time gains from season and award predictions. Said player also likely needs to avoid becoming GM because that would hurt mock draft TPE upside.

Too much would need to go right with a player for Visser's TPE record to be broken, and that's why I think it could stick.

Over the course of the SHL's long-standing history, No one player has monopolized making a goalie's life easier than Minnesota Chiefs lifer Alonzo Garbanzo, who over the course of his 23-season SHL career, amassed a whopping 1882 shots blocked. Just one of the accomplished winger's records that he established over his career, which ranks 4th all time in Games Played. What makes this record so astounding, though, is the enormous amount of shots that were placed on goal against Minnesota, including the ones Garbanzo could not get in front of. Robert Andersson, the starting goaltender for much of Garbanzo's seasons, places 9th all time in shots fired his way. Could this record be the aftermath of a goalie just unfortunate enough to get put in one of the most active lines of fire in SHL history, in a situation so bad, it came down to a winger to help his goalie make sure he wasn't suffering from PTSD whenever a puck his shot his way.

One of the more under rated records in SHL history that I haven't seen anyone talk about so far in this thread is Mattias Holmberg's @MyLittleHexx shot block record for a single season. With a grand total of 128 shots blocked in a single season, Holmberg really sacrificed his body for the betterment of his team and his goaltender which I assume was Jeff Kirkstone in Season 31. I never really see anyone talk about this but the fact that Holmberg averaged over two and a half shot blocks a game with 2.56 shots blocked per game is truly unbelievable. Ben Dover and Jack Tanner have both come close with each blocking 118 shots respectively but that is still a whole 10 shot blocks behind Holmberg's record. The fact that a defenseman could be that efficient and that defensively effective is truly impressive and it deserves to be talked about more.

I think Mike Izzy will break the most goals record! If I am being honest, I only know of him now thanks to picking him 2nd overall in my fantasy pick but he is doing a great job and apparently this is just another great season for him. However I think he will go the extra mile this time round and break the record. I think he is a fair few off but I am confident that he will be able to break the record with the games remaining. Plus then my fantasy team looks like it will do even better so we both win!

I imagine it will be the Most Hits record. I do not actually know the stat record my memory but considering just how many players this league has had in roughly 50 seasons and how many players it has had per team I can imagine it would be a quite crazy stat achieved. So I reckon unless someone specialises in beating the living shit out of someone for a whole season that would be harder than say winning a lot on just a very good team.

I have a couple of answers for ultimately unbreakable records in the modern era. I'll single them out here:

Hits -- 300 by Danny Foster in S34
If you look at this record and consider those around him, the next closest to the record is still Foster the next season and still 40 hits away. Everybody in this top-5 made it between S34 to S37. This could be considered a golden era of power forwards and is featuring the only successful enforcer in SHL history. As we've continued to grow the site, people have noted the viability of the enforcer build and are refusing to utilize it or even being discouraged from using it. With people being discouraged, it leads me to believe nobody will ever quite make it to the level of Bananas Foster here.

Beyond that, the typical benchmark of an unbreakable record is how close it came to the inflation era. In the inflation era, stats were so completely out of whack that it's unbelievable and impossible to consider. However, Foster's 300 was 1 hit shy of tying the inflation record. So effectively when we ran on a different engine, with hits turned up was the only other time somebody has been a 300 hit player. This is unbeatable and unbreakable by a country mile in today's SHL with limited checking and enforcers.

GAA -- 1.80 by Edwin Ask in S16
The golden era of goaltending was upon us in the teenage years of the SHL. The GAA leaderboard is comprised of four players in the teen seasons and one in the twenties who was mentored by one from the teens. Ultimately, Edwin Ask was the leader in this with a 1.80 GAA. However, beyond that, Ask nearly has the record even accounting for the dead puck era when goaltenders were hyper powered and scoring was lower in the league as a whole. His S16 campaign is one that cannot possibly be matched by today's SHL which is much faster and more competitive than ever. Even the best goaltenders in today's league are passing the SV% record, but is still over 2.00 GAA. Looking at this season, Johannes Leitner is the closest to it and is at a 2.02, and the SV% record holder of Michael McFadden in S44 had a 2.06. It's nearly impossible to have a sub-2.00 GAA in today's SHL, and to get that down even further to below 1.80 is so unlikely that I will put money that no one will ever break this record.

I think one of if not the hardest record to break is actually one of the few records that doesn't require any luck. Esa Anrikannen's total regular season games played is a staggering 1458. Even Alonso Garbanzo one of the players widely regarded as having an incredibly long career still played 250 games less than Anrikannen which is five whole seasons. While this record mainly requires perseverance rather than a simon t blessing playing over twenty nine seasons in the SHL is incredible when you break it down to in real life years. I am part of the season 43 draft class so started in season 42. We are only now coming to the end of 49 so it has taken more or less 14 months to progress 8 seasons putting Anrikannens career span at a whopping three and a half years. It is possible that someone will one day flay the corpse of their player past Steelheads record but I doubt it will be any time soon.

I think one of the hardest records to beat would be VLAD McZehrl's 364 shots in a season. In that S32 season, VLAD averaged 7.28 shots per game over the 50 game season, which is really asinine when you think about it. Most players would be lucky to see 7 shots in a game around 5 games a season, while VLAD was doing it almost every game. Just to put that into perspective, the shot leader in the current S49 season, is Bobby Watson with 224 shots through 43 games played. From there we can determine from Watson averaging 5.21 shots per game that, at the end of the season, Watson will have 260.5 shots. That is still over 100 shots UNDER what VLAD had. The closest someone has came to that record was in S47 when Bobby Watson put up 274 shots for the Chiefs. The last time someone had over 300 shots, was in S40 when Chris York had 311 shots for the North Stars.

I think one of the toughest records to beat is going to be Esa Anrikkanen’s career point totals. Esa Anrikkanen scored 1,063 points in his 29 season long career and an impressive 1,458 games. Obviously it is currently possible for somebody to extend their career to those lengths but you still need to sustain a lot of success during that time period to hit those types of numbers. Even if a player decides to extend their career to 30 or so seasons like Esa Anrikkanen did they also need to be a consistently good player to get that many points. Esa Anrikkanen is over 50 points beyond the second place player on the list which is at least two solid seasons for a player. Furthermore, I think other records are likely to see changes to rules and sims that may make them more attainable but I do not see a change to the league that allows players to extend their careers longer than Esa Anrikkanen or scoring enough points to make up for the time difference. If anything, I think it is likely we see rule changes that cut careers shorter than Esa Anrikkanen’s 29 years.

I'm going to have to go with Danny Foster cracking the 300 hit plateau. It's only been done 1 other time way back in S11 by Aiden Richan where he finished the season with 301 hits. In a league that focuses on points it was a refreshing change to see a player so hell bent of crushing people and racking up penalty minutes. He was a unique player and while I doubt he'll ever be remembered as a successful player he certainly left his name on the league.

There are a lot of records I think will be difficult, if not impossible to break, but an impressive one I had the opportunity to be a part of is the Edmonton Blizzard S45 season where we finished 41-6-3 for 85 points, the most in regular season history. Our team was stacked and would go on to win the challenge cup as well as several other awards. It was also the same season three of our players finished for a combined +120 or something crazy like that. Overall it was an incredibly successful season I doubt will be recreated for some time.
