2. Well being on the barracuda me and tom fiddler havent had much postseason time si we decided to have some fun with our good ole friend phineas gold. He always knows the best party spots and where to score the best illegal substances. After his team was eliminated he hit us up to start partying down by the river before we watched the finals. He brought a couple hookers and an 8 ball of manhattans finest coke for us to sample. We didnt sample the hookers however that did not matter as phineas was more then enough for the 3 of them. Once that was all over with we took to the nearest strip club that had tvs so that we could view Hamilton vs nola in peace without being distracted. We were however distracted as phineas just cant stop constantly needing drugs and woman, I personally thought he would grow out of this but I see he still hasnt.

3. The search for the missing kosteysin has one issue where is wikileaks? Obviously julian Assange and wikileaks know something and are being silecened. If we as a community dont rise up and find out what's going on there will be some serious issues I will raise hell to find this man. Also andrie as we know is very clean and we need to help this man out asap let's get together and pledge our unity. If we stand around and take no action then how many more of us will go missing and not be found I rest my case good people. 105 words

5. The great flacko lagerfield of course the man hasnt slowed down and just win his 3rd scoring title. No matter what father time does flacko does not let up, he has 2 cups 3 scoring titles an mvp hes a sure fire hall of Famer no doubt about it hes a serious threat as the greatest of all time. It is my opinion that flacko will go down as a top 5 player easy definatly the best player the finals has seen well beyond any other player currently competing. Flacko is the damn goat better recognize 84 points this season hes a monster just look at the numbers.

6. I have to go with @sve7en as he is the leading voice on hockey tall tonight and a general great on site presence. It would also be great to see him there as I would not know whether or not if he would be biased rooting against his carolina brethren sloth and fuzz as they both suit up for nola. This would be very interesting to see how it plays out knowing 7 he would probably be unbiased but I'm sure if things were going nolas way you may here some chirps of excitment. Either way I know he would be pumped to call the series as many of us would this one is huge its hamiltons chance at a true dynasty, and to something that has not been done much in shl history. Well heres ti a great final let's hope it goes 7 and has many twists and turns along the way.

1. (3 TPE) Well coming into the season I knew the pressure would be off of me quite significantly because of my already horrid first season with a .867 save percentage so it really couldn’t get much worse.  But then the first half of the season happened and I ended up still with a pretty horrible .880 save percentage or something.  Definitely pretty down in the dumps about it but luckily my team is pretty awesome and they had been seeing how hard I have been working in practice so they knew I would come around eventually.  And that is why I love the Armada squad, because the last month of the season I think I was the hottest, if not one of, in the entire junior league.  Ended up with a .907 save percentage and a couple shut outs in the last week or so of play.  Hopefully this’ll give me the confidence I needed to head into next season properly.

2. (3 TPE) I am unfortunately on one of the teams that has not made the SMJHL finals nor my SHL team has made the playoffs as well so things are extremely relaxed for me at the moment. Most of the team hasn’t been talking about league hockey, just mostly watched the SHL finals because that is where we all dream of being one day, as we are still in the juniors right now. It’s really fun just pondering what it’ll be like to have your name called during the opening night of the playoffs and the crowd so insanely hyped up. Making a mammoth save to end the game and hearing the crowd on their feet is going to be extremely awesome if I can ever get to that point. In the meantime though we casually chat about that as a team in our team’s group chat but other than that everyone’s been relaxing up to get their mind right for next season’s exciting team we are going to have.

4. (3 TPE) Since I am in the juniors I will focus on the world junior cup since I know it the best. But as the Finland GM, while making our squad I thought we were extremely solid up and down the line up. Lots of veterans and some high earning young guys. But when an article came out recently about average experience of the WJC teams I was surprised to find us sitting at 4th, so middle of the pack. The good thing though was that all the teams were fairly even experience wise for the most part, and surprisingly the defending champs Canada were at the bottom of the list. But the differences were so minor that I think it’s going to be an extremely good cup this year so should make for some insanely close games. Hopefully our two lines worth of very experienced players will be able to calm down our new guys on the squad and keep it together in the close games.

6. (3 TPE) This is a great question because there are so many veterans in the league that are on experienced teams who were out of the finals run. I think the first person I would want to be on there is Mike Izzy. I’m sure someone with nearly 20 seasons of experience in the SHL would provide an incredible amount of analysis for the broadcast. I’ve seen Mike comment on many media members posts and already makes a lot of advertising media for the Dragons so I think he already has the show business side down. So that plus his years of experience would make it a great fit for the SHL broadcasting finals crew. Additionally another potentially interesting member would obviously be Ola Wagstrom. It would be cool to see the most talented player in the SHL’s perspective. I am not sure how good his broadcasting skills are but usually when someone is that talented on the ice they can add some great behind the scenes details on why decisions were made on the ice.

13. a. (1 TPE) I think even though Cain might be the more skilled goaltender, it’s hard to match someone’s finals, and cup winning, experience such as Kryyst. I’m pretty positive that Krysst was even the MVP of last seasons finals so when you have a god mode playoff goalie that has carried a team to two other cups already, that is a massive edge in any Finals cup game.

Reflection on your season - how did your player fare on the ice this season? Did you meet or surpass your individual player goals or did you come up short? Whether you excelled or disappointed - what can you attribute that to? What will you try to do better next season?

All in all I think I had a pretty good season personally. I always set my goals exceptionally high going into each season but not in a way that would leave me disappointed if I don’t reach them. I expected a lot more out of myself offensively this season. I ended up with only 18 points which is below average for me but I did have 6 goals which I believe is a season best for me. I really tried to work on my offensive game leading into season 54 but it just didn’t work out as planned. Defensively though I feel very good about my year. I am among the leaders in almost every defensive category. I always feel like I could have done more but as the season stands I think I played well. I know that Baltimore is rebuilding and that could affect my personal numbers but I don’t care about personal accolades as much as leading this team into the future. Next season I am going to continue what I do now - Play a tight defensive game and chip in offensively whenever I can while mentoring the young players and help lead the Platoon into its next phase of greatness.

Well, dang. Your team didn't make the finals this season - my condolences to you. Are you and your teammates planning on watching the finals even though you're not in it? If so, what are your watch parties like? If not, are you still following the finals or trying to ignore it completely? What are you and your teammates doing together (if anything) instead of following along? (if you're on Hamilton or New Orleans, or either of the 2 SMJHL teams that soon will be playing in the finals - congrats and sorry :p this one isn't for you!)

I have invited the team to my home for all of the games for a captain’s watch party. It isn’t going to be a super serious affair but there is the hope that we can all learn from the performances of these two great teams fighting for the cup. In preparation for the watch parties I have been cooking up a wide variety of food with the help of Luca Del Vecchio and Ethan Ross. A lot of it is prime off season food. I’ve also been stocking up on everyone’s favorite drinks. We are in the off season and everyone needs a break and a chance to recalibrate. The plan is to watch the games and break them down in real time while slowly stuffing our faces and getting blitzed. It should be an excellent way to build some team cohesion as well as seeing where we can improve as a team next year.

Write a sonnet about an SHL-related topic. Be sure to follow the proper ABAB-CDCD-EFEF-GG rhyme structure or your HS English (or equivalent any-language Writing teacher) will track you down and give you a failing grade.

Oh how I love thee, Baltimore Platoon
Though now you are struggling to win
I believe your greatness will shine soon
The thought of another team is truly a sin

In the crease is the goalie, LDV
A young star that shines so bright
Protected by Nat Emerson, the number one D
In future compendiums of you they will write.

I pray that all your players will remain strong
In the rebuild things could surely seem dark
Though I believe it will not take too long
I say this truly with no sarcasm or snark

Soon the rebuild will close with a snap
As all around the world chant “BAP BAP”

a. These are absolutely two of the best goaltenders in the league in Cain and Kryyst - which team has the advantage in net in this series?

I think Kryyst has the advantage in the series. He has the advantage in goals against average and save percentage with more wins to boot. Kryyst also faced fewer shots throughout the season which makes me believe that Hamilton will play a stronger game in front of him than New Orleans will for Cain.

b. There are two Johnsons in this series - Gabriel (HAM) and Darnell (NOLA). In fact, the two used to host the Johnson & Johnson Podcast together, but they're now on the ice as bitter rivals. Which team has the better Johnson?

Hamilton clearly has the better Johnson. Gabriel has 35 more points than Darnell and plays five minutes more a night. Gabriel is a much more important piece to his team than Darnell is to his. Darnell takes the body more than Gabriel but that doesn’t help at all in the grand scheme of things.

c. The Specters won both regular season matchups, but Hamilton finished with better team stats overall. Do regular season head-to-heads provide an accurate forecast for a playoff series? (answer predictively if it hasn't happened yet; reactively if it has.)

I don’t subscribe to the thought that regular season head to heads are an accurate forecast of a playoff series. The regular season and playoffs are two totally different beasts. During the regular season a team needs to balance understanding every team in the league and deal with travel and the fatigue that goes with it. In the playoffs, you only have one team to focus on with travel being equal for both teams. There is no comparison between the two.

d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?

After long deliberation, it is with a heavy heart that I would choose New Orleans. Now I am sure Hamilton is lovely and has a lot to offer but NEW ORLEANS BABY! I would be stuffing my face with gumbo, jambalaya, po boys, and every other delicious food  they have down there while getting wild on Bourbon Street. So much money will be spent on food and booze that SDCore is going to need to become the commish of another league to cover it.

Austin Roenick had more points than last season which is good to see and I am happy to see him improve from his previous season and to see him get better and better and especially after a completely new build, I was hoping for him to not get worse and he did not get worse. Though I wanted Roenick to get 25-30 goals this season and only scored 21 goals, that is what happens when your linemate steals all the goals from you. But anyway, I scored a lot of goals by the end of the season and I was racking up a lot of assists rather than goals. It is this time for road to the hall of fame where Roenick is having seasons of a near point per game seasons where he gets 40+ points which is fine. But I want to see Roenick have a season where he is above a point per game and that is more than 50 points and I want it to happen. 170 words.

I do not know about the others but if I am not in the finals, then I do not give a shit about the finals. Now, in this case, Hamilton is in the finals so I want to watch it to see Hamilton lose and make sure they suffer and be very angry as it is very satisfying to see that happen. You know how much it would make me so happy to see Hamilton lose. Not only did they cheat the engine but they also swept us which makes me angry but now I get to see them get swept by NOLA and see them get so angry about it and mad about NOLA cheating the lines and oh how ironic is that. So, of course, I would be rooting for NOLA to win because it is best for the league to see the entertainment of hamilton getting fucked. If not then I would be an epic gamer like always. 161 words.

Roenick: Alright fuckers. Listen, we got swept. Which is very bad and we should not let that ever happen because I am Austin Roenick and I do not deserve to get swept. So here we are in the offseason and what do we do? We make trades! Let's get Wagstrom who scored 40 goals a few seasons ago because we need more goal scorers. We are also getting Geoff Moore and yes, fuck the future! We do not need picks when we can just build a dynasty here in New York! So of course, we will trade for star players and win cups from here on. This is brilliant for not only for the fans but also for Austin Roenick as he will have a great resume after this. You fans need to trust the management here and in the future, we will dominate the league like we did a few seasons ago and we will bring the challenge cup back here. 162 words.

a. Cain has the advantage here because he is on NOLA who is a better team and had a better season. Kryyst is good but not better than Cain and his elite skills of stopping the puck easily. He is so good that I do not expect to be surprised to see Cain sweep Hamilton easily. Because it is about to happen. 61 words.
b. Darnell Johnson is better because he is not on Hamilton. As a Hamilton resident, I am very embarrassed to see this Hamilton team represent us and I am waiting patiently to see them relocate to a pathetic city like Montreal. So Darnell is the better Johnson also because he is going to win the challenge cup for his team. Go NOLA. 61 words.
c. Of course, if you cannot beat the team then there is no hope for you. Obviously the leafs cannot beat the bruins in season series so they cannot beat them in a playoff series. It is that simple. Hamilton got those points from other shit teams but they cannot beat NOLA who is a great team? Of course, it is important and key info to know. 66 words.
d. As a proud hamilton resident, of course I would pick NOLA. Hamilton is a boring city with 1800s looks and when I went to the city once, I was begging myself to leave as quickly as possible. Some old fuck offered me drugs for free and I was like nah, fuck off. NOLA is a great vacation place so of course I would not pick Hamilton, wtf. 67 words.

I think overall this season I succeeded in reaching my expectations but only by a little bit. Prior to the season I did a lot of research on FHM and tested a lot of different things and ended up going with a build I was reasonably confident could get me around 40 points, I think the strength of Chicago's top line allowed me to greatly surpass my original goals. I ended up leading defensemen in the entire league in goals, shots, points, assists, and hits. Corey and I were one of the top pairings in SHL history in terms of production and ended up having a lot better chemistry in the sim than we did the season before with different builds. I think next season I want to improve on my defensive game, try to lead the league in defender points again and continue to be a dominant pair with Corey.

After Chicago lost to Buffalo in game 6 the Smebs went into a deep depression, they didn't talk to eachother or their teammates for days but eventually came out in support of their teammate Jules Watt, who the Chicago hockey media was blaming the entire play-off loss on. The Smebs tried to watch some play-off hockey but the remaining teams were too boring for them and decided they didn't care who won the cup, and returned home to Korea with their other brothers Chico, and the unemployed Steve-Craig and Khan Smeb. When in Korea they went to a huge K-Pop festival where they saw Red Velvet and bolbbalgan4 perform, went to LCK finals and spent every night drinking soju and going to karaoke. The Smebs then returned back to Chicago to work on their game for next season and get back in to shape from eating only Korean barbeque every night when they were in Korea.

I think this season Japan is in a great position to contend for a medal in IIHF and could end up winning it all if their players are playing at their peak. A lot of our players had big seasons this year including Parker Smeb, Daniel Smeb, Martijn Westbroek, Akira Ren, Ryuuji Minamino and many more had great seasons for their club teams. A lot of our players also changed builds from last tournament with the free redistribution that was offered to everyone and were massively improved over the last SHL season which should mean they have much improved IIHF tournament as well. This tournament is shaping up to be a great tourney for Team Japan and very well could result in their most successful tournament since joining IIHF 8 seasons ago. Their first line in this tournament could end up being the best top line in the entire IIHF this year and with an active goalie in net for the first time in years things are looking up for Japan.

a. Geezus Krysst is the better goalie judging by the regular season, as well as the season prior and the play-offs. If I had to pick a goalie it'd probably be him mainly due to his experience winning the cup last season as well as his overall stats going into the play-offs in both his prior seasons.
b. I mean I think it's pretty clear you take Gabriel Johnson here. Just going since the FHM switch he's shown to be the much better player outscoring Darnell 47-14 in S53 and 44 to 7 in S54. Overall I think Gabriel Johnson is a top 10 defencemen in the league while Darnell still has a way to go before reaching him.
c. I think it depends, it's pretty clear Hamilton has the best tactics/builds in the league judging by how much they beat higher TPE teams. I think head to head is important but a lot of the series is going to come down to what tactics NOLA uses against Hamilton in this series. If they use their tactics correctly they could win but I'd say HAM is the favourite.
d. I'd take the trip to Hamilton since its close to my home-town of corona, also borders are closed so i'm not sure how Corey plans on getting me into the US. I've only been to Hamilton a few times but they have the CFL Hall of Fame and the first Tim Hortons ever (Tims is trash now but going to the first one is fun).

Let us be totally honest, my player absolutely sucked this season. For being so high performing a season ago there really is no reason that he sucked so badly, and yet, he did. I can only assume that my role within the team was adjusted and because of that my role did not really fit the build that I have but that is totally an assumption. At the end of the day, it does not really matter what the reason was, I just flat out could not perform. I was held to a career low in goals, assists, points, +/- rating, hits and blocks. It was quite simply the worse season I have ever had in my entire career. In short, I was terrible and probably did not deserve top four minutes. Regardless, there is not much I can do about it now. The season is done and all I can do is prepare so that I can be better next season.

For better or for worse my plan, now that we have been ousted from the playoffs, is to start getting in my offseason work early and start preparing for next season. I have no plans whatsoever to pay attention to the finals this season. I am sure I will hear who won at some point but my focus is going to be on getting better for both my SHL team, the Edmonton Blizzard, and my IIHF team, the Swiss National Team. I think those two teams are more important to me than watching a finals series that I am not particularly interested in. And with such a poor showing from me during the season, I do not really have any time to waste on improving and getting better everyday. Maybe if I was a better player I would have the time to sit back and watch a little hockey but at this point in my career I need to prove that I really was worth all the hype I received a few seasons ago. I haven’t made a name for myself yet and that is what I need to focus on.

S54 IIHF Predictions - with one FHM IIHF season under our belt, we've got a bit more of a sense of how the tournament might play out in the new sim engine. What are your predictions for the S54 IIHF or WJC tournament - how do you think your team will fare this season? Who do you think are the biggest contenders to take home the hardware and why?

I think as we head into IIHF play one of the teams that should be fun to watch will be the Swiss National Team. I am clearly biased here since I am on the team, but I think that they have been on the cusp of greatness the last few seasons. They have a solid core of guys that are still relatively young and they continue to improve each season. I really would have no doubt that the Swiss team could become a stalwart in IIHF play. They play fast paced, exciting hockey and the quality of player they have coming up in their system is unheard of. And with quality veterans like Mathias Seger and Lallo Selman and Nicolaj Muller leading the way there really is not much this Swiss team is not capable of. The trick is going to be putting all of it together though. The talent is there, the ingredients are there, it is just time now to bake the cake and make the ingredients come together

Occasionally, broadcast networks will bring an active player into the TV coverage of ongoing finals if their team has been eliminated, and that player is often to give unique insights from a current player's perspective. During this NOLA-HAM finals, which SHL player or prospect would be a good addition to the Challenge Cup TV coverage? Why would that player be a good addition to the broadcast team?

I would actually spend my time in Hamilton. I know that sounds crazy but I have been to New Orleans before and I have never been to Hamilton or the greater Toronto area. I did have a 4 hour layover in the Toronto airport once but that has been the extent of my visit and it looked like a pretty cool area to explore and visit.

My player performed much better this season than he did last season. As this was my first season playing uncapped at 425 in the SMJHL, I was expecting a performance boost, but not nearly as much as what did happen. I was placed on a very strong line with Jaska Seppala and Rotticus Scott, and we pretty much tore the league to shreds. I surpassed my individual goals and can contribute that to my linemates and my dedication to earning that sweet, sweet TPE. Next season, I'll have to work on making Rocco more disciplined as he led the Knights in penalty minutes. I'm not sure how I'll be able to achieve this, as I don't have any further TPE to spend until I uncap, but it is something that needs to happen if we want to excel further next season. Perhaps the GMs in Kelowna can tweak the line strats to ensure that we're not taking as many risks that could lead to calls.

Well, it was a tough end to the season. We ran into a ridiculously hot Strom Chamberlain and we just couldn't really figure him out throughout the five games of the series. From what I have heard, some of the boys are planning a little viewing party for the finals that is very anti-Anaheim. I think the first party is actually today, and it isn't really a party per se, just because of the situation with COVID (not Cal Covid, like the virus). We're all meeting up on Zoom at around 3:00pm Eastern to watch the finals and toss some chirps around at the boys who deserve them. The watch parties will consist of almost everyone getting absolutely buckled, blackout drunk and ordering some individual pan pizzas from the main pizza sponsor of the Kelowna Knights, Domino's. I think some of the fellas are even laying down bets on who taps out for the night first. My money's on Takshak.

It has been publicized a decent amount on this site but Hamilton prospect Andrei Kostitsyn's brother Sergei appears to be missing. Does anybody know where Sergei? What have you done/what can you do to help Andrei track down his brother?

Ummm, firstly, it is (CLEAN) Andrei Kostitsyn. And I have been putting in work for three seasons to find Sergei. I started my journey in London, ON where I went to interrogate the Hunter brothers, Mark and Dale, and get them to tell me where they were hiding Sergei. The brothers played for the London Knights back in the day, so I thought this was a logical place to start. They weren't able to provide much info, so my next step is to cross the pond and scour the Belarusian countryside. We must locate Sergei at all goddamn costs, for the love of god.

The Knights are done their season,
A tough end, it was bad.
They sucked late for no reason,
And now Katth and Naosu are sad. :(

Berni wouldn't move the puck,
Seppala couldn't find the net.
Scott proved to be out of luck,
And Kav ended up wet.

We can't fix the rest of this year,
The Knight will change their focus.
It is too late to shed a tear,
In S55 we will storm the net like locusts.

Season 55 with be the season of the Knight,
It will fill the SMJHL with lots of fright.

b. There are two Johnsons in this series - Gabriel (HAM) and Darnell (NOLA). In fact, the two used to host the Johnson & Johnson Podcast together, but they're now on the ice as bitter rivals. Which team has the better Johnson?
d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?

b. I'm going to have to go with Gabe on this one. Everyone always says the Gabe does suck, and I one hundred percent do not doubt that, but he pretty much carried my fantasy team this past season, so I can;t layer on any more slander. Gabriel Johnson is an elite defender in the league and sprinkles in a little bit of offensive spice more often than you'd think.

d. Send me to New Orleans, baby. Hamilton stinks, I've been there a few too many time for my liking. Preferably, Corey would send me during or around the time of Mardi Gras so we could have some fun. If not, I'd probably head out to the French Quarter and just absolutely moss on the beautiful, aesthetically pleasing balconies that line the streets.

Reflection on your season - how did your player fare on the ice this season? Did you meet or surpass your individual player goals or did you come up short? Whether you excelled or disappointed - what can you attribute that to? What will you try to do better next season?

Kata Vilde was an absolute piece of shit this past season. Personally I think the FHM engine is no better at all than STHS. For the 2nd highest tpe goalie to be the worst in the league is complete and utter bullshit. At this point I don't particularly give a fuck anymore, going to let the GMs set my build via regression.  I had done extensive research and had revamped my build prior to the past season and it made it even worse. I can't be possibly any more disappointed than I currently am. I believe this switch to FHM is going to cost my player a Hall of Fame spot, at this point I log in one day a week and update . So there you have my thoughts on my piece of crap player who noone has worked harder on and gotten less results than I. Take it for what you will I guess, probably weren't expecting this response to a question lol.

Well, dang. Your team didn't make the finals this season - my condolences to you. Are you and your teammates planning on watching the finals even though you're not in it? (if you're on Hamilton or New Orleans, or either of the 2 SMJHL teams that soon will be playing in the finals - congrats and sorry :p this one isn't for you!)

Ignoring completely would be the response here. Have some good friends on NOLA and would love for them to win but its pretty much a given outcome that the exploiters will probably win again. The SHL has become a complete joke with it's shitty index so it makes it even less of a temptation to look at the series. In Calgary we play poker every friday night so that's most likely what our team will be up to. Our SMJHL scouts are also hard at work evaluating the players for the upcoming draft. The GMs are also trying to sort out the strategies for this piece of shit sim program we're now using. So i'd say all in all Calgary has enough to keep ourselves busy this offseason with working on roster upgrades and our usual social activities. We even have some of the NOLA guys who join us in the poker games so we'll be able to support them through that venue, except of course when Joe K wins all the monies again. #BullyJoe

What are your predictions for the S54 IIHF or WJC tournament - how do you think your team will fare this season? Who do you think are the biggest contenders to take home the hardware and why?

Well the big teams Canada and the US are obviously the top contenders again but we saw during the playoffs anything can happen as they both went out early. And the Chechs won it after coming in with a number 2 seed into the playoffs. So I think it will be much of the same as the sim engine is brutal when it comes to parity. Sweden snuck in to the medal round just barely last season and I see us a having a bit better of a chance as we have a ton of upcoming young players that should lead us quite well into the future. I still have 2nd highest tpe goalie and we'll see if I suck as much in the iihf as I did in the shl but overall I'm fairly optomistic of our chances this upcoming tournament. Ireland and Austria will be tough as usual and I think Great Britain will probably make the medal round as well so I really don't expect alot of change from the past season.

Which player from the Steelhawks or Specters has a great chance to make the Hall of Fame when their playing days are up? Make the case for that player's HOF bid.

Well this is a very simple one. Joe Kurczewski is an absolute fucking legend is it's a guaranteed first ballot lock for sure. I'm as sure of this one as i am the sun will come up in the morning. Joe has now played in 1100 SHL games with around 950 points scored in those games. In his 22 year career he's scored over 50 points 8 times and scored over 60 twice. He's won a shit ton of awards and
he's still kicking ass in his 22nd season. Who knows how much he has left in the tank, would be nice to see him get to the 1000 point mark in his career but like I said before this is an absolute no brainer in my opinion.

a. These are absolutely two of the best goaltenders in the league in Cain and Kryyst - which team has the advantage in net in this series?
I would say Cain has the advantage if FHM didn't screw top tpe goalies so much so it's kind of a tossup here. It seems lesser tpe goalies seem to do better in this sim but Cain had a damn fine season and is still going strong. Even though the Cheathawks had a better record overall I think that it's Cain's time to shine and really step up for New Orleans. Their playoff stats are similar in both GAA and save % but Cain is facing more shots so that should drive his heat index a bit and give him an edge there as well.

d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?
Damn another no brainer question lol. Of course Kata Vilde would go to New Orleans. A known foodie Vilde would spend most of his time searching out the best in cuisine that New Orleans has to offer. The flavor of Cajun cooking is going to be quite different for a Swedish lad living in Canada but Vilde is really looking forward to trying this style of cuisine. Hopefully he doesn't eat so much he shows up to next season's camp out of shape as he has in the past.

I think it is more then fair to say everyone on the New England Wolfpack had a disappointing season. The glamour, success and pure domination from last season was no where to be seen. I myself finished with less goals, assists, plus minus, hits, shots blocked and less faith in our organization. Now I know some may think this sounds cruel, but I was not the only one to feel this way as multiple guys have already been traded from the roster this off season. I myself will be following shortly as this era in new England is over. While they do have some decent prospects ready to be called up, No one will replace some of the guys they lost. Like Ola, the 2 thousand TPE beast, which is why I feel the roster won't be as good this upcoming year.

Next season I hope I have better chemistry with my new teammates and coaches

Boris threw an entire blackout month in Ukraine for the New England Wolpack. What is a blackout month? No it is not a black lives matter movement, but in fact it is quite literal. It is a month at Boris' catered home drinking and eating as much as you can to help forget that the SHL playoffs even exits. Ola, Mcshotty, Jakub, Dangle, Guy, even Blue showed up looking for a way to escape reality. I even got Hotdog to fund the trip as I sold the month long expense as a "team building exercise". So the wolpack went wild, sinks poured vodka out of the tap and the fridge had some of the best European meats imaginable. After a couple days word got out about the month long event and all the locals started to join in on the blackout festivities. You had the sexy locals show up, the alcoholic locals, the crazy locals and funny enough the event got so much press the president even joined for a weekend.

So I am very biased when it comes to this as I help run team Latvia, so obviously I want them to win as much as they can. The team is looking to make the medal rounds after falling short last tournament. With a few rookies un banking their builds this year, the team is looking to have a lot more offensive depth. Unfortunately that is it, our defensive depth shrunk due to retirement and while rookies have begun to replace them, they are only in their first or second season in their career so far. So it is not fair for me to put that much pressure on guys who are newer to the league. With another year of fhm under my belt, I hope I am able to find a better strategy to work going into this tournament and any team that thinks Latvia is a write off, here is hoping I prove them wrong

The first player that comes to mind is the new age McZ, better known as (Clean) Andrei Kostitsyn. Does the New Orleans Specters even have a crazy fan base? and obviously the entire league is hoping the former cheaters (I mean Hamilton Steelhawks) don't win it back to back. So how could clean keep the broadcast interesting? Well I'm sure he would throw some coverage on his journey so far with finding his missing brother Sergei. I'm sure he would throw in some Latvian lessons as well because it is clearly the superior language of the world. Maybe he would even have some unusual advertisements, like Balzam vodka (not it doesn't taste like balls). Last but not least, I am sure he would cover conspiracy theories about his brother, the league and how Russia needs to be stopped.

If you can tell me with a straight face that you do NOT want to hear this, you sir are a robot

1.  This was a difficult season for Guy O'Shea and the Falcons overall.  Almost everyone took a step back in performance despite having no change in TPE or major change in player build.  We could never quite figure out whether tactics were causing issues or if we just had an incredible amount of sim luck which drove us to over perform in our first season in the new sim.  Almost all stats were down this season including most notably plus minus which was a horrible delta from the previous season.  The hope is that with moving up to the SHL and unlocking all of that banked TPE, I'll be able to see better results in the bigs.  It will be tough being at a huge disadvantage in TPE but I expect that I'll be playing against other team's third lines which should help a bit.  Either way, last season was a bust by every stretch and I hope it's not a trend for my player.

2.  No, we did not make the finals this year and it is still painful.  I would like to say that we will be tuning in for the finals games but I would be lying.  I could care less about who wins if it is not us.  Some of my team mates may feel differently and may be having a party to watch some of the games but not Guy.  I am already back in the gym working on getting faster, stronger, and better at the game.  Watching TV and other people play hockey is not going to do that for me.  I was told that some of the coaches were hosting a party to watch some of the games but I declined to attend.  My focus is 100 percent on getting ready for my first SHL season next year.  I need to be ready to go so no, no parties, no fun, it is all about getting better at the game and being the best I can be next year.

3.  You may have heard that Sergei Kostitsyn is missing and a search has been initiated to find him.  What you may not know is Guy O'Shea has a set of skills, a very particular set of skills.  And if Sergei is not returned in one piece, those skills will be unleashed on whoever the poor bastards are who thought they could mess with a fellow hockey player.  Some think he is sitting in the Gulag somewhere in Siberia for crimes against the state of Russia.  Some said he is down in South America hiding from an enemy.  It doesn't matter, we will burn that place down to bring him back.  Believe that.

5.  Clearly there is one choice that stands out as a lock for the Hall of Fame when they finally hang up their skates, Flacko Langerfield.  He led the league in scoring by 7 points over the next person and nobody from NOLA is even in the top 25.  This is not even a contest.  The guy is a stud and has dominated the league.  I do not think you can find anyone who would argue that he is one of the best of this generation and will continue to produce at a Hall of Fame level for years to come.  By the time he hangs it up, there will be nobody who would argue against his enshrinement.

a. Kryyst is hands down the best goalie in this series.  Bringing a 2.22 goals against average from the regular season and an amazing 32 wins with only nine losses, his team should have a lot of confidence playing in front of him.  He finished second in shutouts with eight and only Elizabeth Doyle finished with a better goals against average as a starter.

b. Debating who has the better Johnson seems a little gross but I guess we have to decide.  In this case though there is little to no debate, Gabriel Johnson is the far superior player.  Having finished with 44 points and a plus 35, his stats crush anything that Darnell can put together.  It's not even worth saying more than that.

1. This was definitely a rough season for Zoltan. Compared to last year the total points earned dropped by 9. Goals were cut in half with 9 this year compared to 18 last season. Assists did remain the same which is pretty interesting all things considered.. I think that part of the decrease in productivity was that i was playing on the first line. Playing against the opposing teams #1 defensive pair was detrimental. It is tough coming in as the missing link in the first line that was so dominant the season before. I think that was the biggest part of my decrease overall. I can’t blame my line mates, I can only blame myself. Next season I think we are going to try a little bit more of the mix and match and try to play around with some different roles. My build is going to be the same, so we’ll see where we can go with that.

If the Steelhawks Win the cup this year it will pretty much solidify Jobins HOF bid. Or can I hold fast, stay here still?

c. The Specters won both regular season matchups, but Hamilton finished with better team stats overall. Do regular season head-to-heads provide an accurate forecast for a playoff series? (answer predictively if it hasn't happened yet; reactively if it has.)
d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?

a.) I'm still thinking Kryyst here. He's got more wins, a better save percentage, a higher game rating, 6 more shutouts and a lower GAA. If we're looking at giving an edge to anyone, these are the things you have to weigh and I'm just not seeing a compelling argument from Cain to be the better goaltender throughout the season.

b.) This one is difficult. Darnell Johnson is both longer (6'2") and girthier (220 lbs.) compared to Gabriel (5'11" @ 171 lbs.), but Gabriel comes out on top in experience with his 1515 TPE over Darnell's 949. This is just to close to call, on any given night Gabriel could out preform the other Johnson with his knowledge on how to move his body and please his coaches, but on a good night, Darnell could just be the bigger Johnson that everyone really wants. This is a hard tie and I can't make a call, they're both great.

c.) Regular season match-ups are a fairly good indicator on how a team should do about an opponent. Can a teams coaching staff and management out maneuver their opponent and get favorable match-ups in their lines? Are they able to put pressure on the weak spots on the roster? I think that's what NOLA may manage to do here and give HAM a run for their money. If they were able to do it in the regular season, they should be able to do it again in the finals.

d.)  Look, no one is going to Hamilton. No one in their right mind wants to go there when the other option is a city filled with bars and has a history of debauchery. Of course I'm going to New Orleans and I'm just going to have a great time eating Cajun seafood and drinking myself stupid. It's the only option here and I know it'd be a great time!

While I'm still in the SMJHL on the Anchorage Armada, I feel like I did alright personally, but not enough to lift the team up to make a difference in the long run. I was able to be more of an impact on the ice by leading the team in Corsi to drive play, and was pushing the pace by having the most points of any defenseman on the team while maintaining a non-negative +/- rating.

This all felt like a step in the right direction, but the team seemed to under-perform as a whole.  I personally had an atrocious shooting percentage and needed to be better in several areas to lift the team up further. I'll get there, but I know it will but it'll be tough just like everything else. I'm sure my teammates are just as frustrated as I am and will be looking to take that next step this coming season and hopefully .

Next season looks hopeful. Our defense should be taking a step forward as a whole. Guys like Petrikov and Lazer are going to be looking to have huge rebound seasons and show people what their made of. I'm not worried, if anything, I'm excited for what's to come and I can't wait for the season to start!

(if you're on Hamilton or New Orleans, or either of the 2 SMJHL teams that soon will be playing in the finals - congrats and sorry :p this one isn't for you!)

Condolences are all well and good but getting knocked out of the first round of the playoffs in the SMLJH and having your big club in the SHL not make the playoffs stings. Things in New England are going to be rough because the division is tough, but as for the SMJHL? I'm hoping we turn it around next season and make some noise. We'll see what happens with each team soon enough but as for the finals, we're watching intently.

Doing our homework on each team and how they're playing is key to having success at any level, and if we want to succeed we need to have some sort of edge. The SMJLH is a very volatile league with players coming and going on the regular, but the SHL, things move a bit slower and it's easier to predict who will be where for a more consistent picture of the league. We're all watching to see how this all plays out so we can react next year a little better.

I know that in the SMJHL we're excited to have a good returning core, and we're all following the finals to see who we should be worried about next season. Kwame Dakari on CAR looks like he'll be a force to be reckoned with next season on the wing. As well, Emilia Bergman from ANA looks as strong as ever and will only be more dangerous next season. It's interesting to watch and follow along with everyone, but also, I can't wait to get back at it next season and show what I can do.

Most of my team is just ignoring the finals instead of following along. It doesn't seem worth it to watch Hamilton in the finals again, it feels like this is a series we've already seen before. After having a slump of a season here in New England my enthusiasm for hockey and the SHL is being tested, but I still think I can go ahead strong enough to get our dominant energy back. I think most of my teammates feel the same, though some have been less than optimistic. They would rather be drinking and just having a straight up party than a watch party, so we combined the two. We all headed over to a place the GM rented and made the place explode with noise, getting absolutely trashed while we were at it. We challenged each other to drinking games and after the game we told drunken stories of the good old days, enjoying the memories and the wild time together. It was just good to have some fun that didn't involve worrying about our playoff position. Sometimes a break is what you need to get back into a good mindset and to be ready for a fresh start.

I am proud to be an Swiss in IIHF and I am sure we will have a strong tournament. With such a star studded roster, there is no way on earth that we could not compete and be a top tier team at last. From the crease to the faceoff dot, we have the best of the best at every position. Few other federations can roster the kind of firepower and talent that the Swiss federation can, and having such a great lineup can give us confidence that we can compete head to head versus any opponent we come up against. Canada, US, and Great Britain should be our strongest opponents, but I have confidence that even they will struggle before the might of the Swiss. Our first line is better than most people's fourth line, and we roster some of the best and brightest players that the SHL has to offer. Last year was just the beginning of what the Swiss are capable of, as a dynasty and a soon-to-be superpower in the IIHF. It seems almost certain to peg the Swiss as a top competitive team going into the tournament.

Will expansion happen in the SHL?
If it does it won't be til S55,
There really is no way to tell,
But it is what the league should do to thrive.

The juniors have already done it you know,
It's set to happen in the offseason,
And as the league continues to grow,
It seems it's for a very good reason.

Surely when news of expansion is revealed,
The guys on good teams will be rather pissed,
GMs will fret about what players to shield,
Who to protect and fit on their list.

The league's newest franchise might be on their way,
We all must prepare for their arrival someday.

a. These are absolutely two of the best goaltenders in the league in Cain and Kryyst - which team has the advantage in net in this series?
b. There are two Johnsons in this series - Gabriel (HAM) and Darnell (NOLA). In fact, the two used to host the Johnson & Johnson Podcast together, but they're now on the ice as bitter rivals. Which team has the better Johnson?
(tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?

a. I think Cain has the advantage as well as his backup. Cain's a good goalie and his backup is technically co-Cain, so they have the physical embodiment of an energetic drug. Plus Kryyst would probably just take his skates off and walk around the ice saying, "look guys, I can walk on water!"
b. I think Darnell is the better Johnson. 1) he's on the team with the longer name and acronym, 2) his name starts not only with a d but a big D, 3) the double L in his name is pretty phallic, and 4) I think he sails for fun, so he's got the ship size and ocean motion on his side. Also because of the implication.
c. I think regular season matchups make a difference. In FHM we have more tactics customization, so the head to head statistics would be a reliable method to determine who's more likely to beat who, based on the team's usual makeup/tactics and also on the management and coaching of the teams.
d. I don't know much about either, but I'd choose to go to New Orleans because it's gotta be an improvement over the old Orleans, right? I'd spend my time looking around to see what's been improved since the last iteration and also to go pour salt all over their local ice rink.

Reflection on your season - how did your player fare on the ice this season? Did you meet or surpass your individual player goals or did you come up short? Whether you excelled or disappointed - what can you attribute that to? What will you try to do better next season?

I’m writing this just before game one kicks off for the Challenge Cup.  My player Lyle Odelein III is suiting up for his first ever final appearance.  Lyle only ever has one personal goal when it comes to the SHL, and that’s winning it all with his team.  This is this closest he has ever been to meeting that goal and will no doubt do everything in his power to make the happen.  This season was Lyle’s best since being called up to the Specters team, he surpassed all of his previous bests in goals, assists, hits and blocked shots.  What does Lyle attribute his success to?  His teammates, Lyle always says he wouldn’t be anything without the people he plays with. What will Lyle try and do better next season?  He will hopefully be back in the same position next season, waiting for the puck to drop in the Challenge Cup finals with his Specter teammates.

As a member of Team Canada, I think we’ve got the team to do some damage at this seasons IIHF tournament. Last season we fell short, losing to team Czechia in the semi-finals.  We had a great round robin, we actually finished with most points and best record (11-0-1) for both groups.  We did however stumble against Czechia which prevented us from playing for the gold against the Americans.  This season however, I feel that all of the Team Canada players have made some improvements to their game and are going to be hungry to have a better showing in the elimination games.  With a new GM at the helm, we will all be ready to show what this great hockey nation can do.  I feel the Canada, Czechia and the USA should still be considered the favourites this season and I’ll add Great Britain as well, they played some solid hockey last tournament, so much so they walked away with the bronze medal after defeating my own Team Canada in the bronze medal match up.

It’s the Challenge Cup finals
The time for one team to shine
Like a record collecters vinyls,
All are definitely in their prime

Two teams will battle it out
Only one will reign supreme
The fans will scream and shout
And the players will live their dream

This is when all the hard work pays off
For the GMs and their players
No one will dare scoff
At the Steelhawk slayers

First to win four games will be heroes
But no one here should be considered a zero

a. These are absolutely two of the best goaltenders in the league in Cain and Kryyst - which team has the advantage in net in this series?

This is a no brainer, for me at least.  Cain has been my goalie since I joined the SHL.  He is hands down the best goalie around.  Not just because he is the highest TPE, but since he plays like every game matters and he wants to win every single game he plays in.  I know Kryyst is top notch and has had a great playoff run, but I got to give it to my guy Cain.

b. There are two Johnsons in this series - Gabriel (HAM) and Darnell (NOLA). In fact, the two used to host the Johnson & Johnson Podcast together, but they're now on the ice as bitter rivals. Which team has the better Johnson?

I’m lucky enough to share a locker room with both of these gems.  Darnell is my NOLA teammate and all around solid dude.  He’s a joy to interact with.  Gabriel is my teammate when we play for Team Canada, and he is also top notch and a fellow Habs fan.  Both Johnson’s and I are from the same draft class so we’ve all been together every step of our careers, so it’s tough to say which one is better.  So all I’ll say is Darnell is the superior Johnson during the SHL season and Gabriel is the better Johnson during the IIHF tourney.

c. The Specters won both regular season matchups, but Hamilton finished with better team stats overall. Do regular season head-to-heads provide an accurate forecast for a playoff series? (answer predictively if it hasn't happened yet; reactively if it has.)

I don’t put much basis on regular season matchups.  They are important for sure, but the playoffs are a different beast.  Everything is on the line in a playoff match up, and in the finals, even more so.  Us having won the regular season match ups only tell me one thing, that we can beat this team.  It doesn’t mean we will, but we know we can.

d. If SDCore offered you an all-expenses paid week-long vacation to either New Orleans or Hamilton, which city would you choose to go to? (tough choice I know lol.) How would you spend your time there?

I’m pretty sure I said this the last two times Hamilton made it to the finals, I lived in Hamilton for two years many moons ago.  I was not a huge fan of the city and have avoided spending anytime there as much as possible.  New Orleans on the other hand is a city I’ve always wanted to go to, so even though my answer would have been whatever city isn’t Hamilton, this time I really, really mean it!

I wanted to wait until things went public to tackle this one lol. It was a very disappointing season both for otter and for the wolfpack as a whole, obviously, especially following the dominant S53 regular season. Alas, things and such, you know? I didn't meet my personal goals last season and fell short of the S53 stats I put up. I took myself early in fantasy so I also sucked in that lol. I would blame my lack of individual success on my teammates instead of myself - specifically a few teammates, like Ola Wagstrom, Rex Kirkby, Guy Zheng, Boris Poroshenko, and Dick Clapper. Just them, no one else. Next season will be interesting, as we'll have a worse team overall but there will be plenty of opportunity. Otter will be moving up to the first line and first power play and will stand out as the highest TPE player on the team; I expect Otter and McShotty to put up pretty decent stats (I hope!).

What are your predictions for the S54 IIHF or WJC tournament - how do you think your team will fare this season? Who do you think are the biggest contenders to take home the hardware and why?

I think we'll see a continuation of the trends we saw in last season's IIHF, with the teams that are expected to be strong playing well and the teams that are expected to be weak having not much of a chance at the final 3 podium spots. I do think Norway will fare better than last season, as most of the team is pre-regression and the TPE added will counteract whatever was lost by the few regressing oldies. I don't know if it'll be enough to get us over USA or Canada or the other strong squads (in fact, I'm sure it won't), but we should finish in a top-4 spot in our group and have enough to put up a fight in the tougher games. I think I chose USA to win the gold; I didn't put too much (any) research into that pick but they're always an extremely solid squad and I think they'll have as good a shot as any.

Which player from the Steelhawks or Specters has a great chance to make the Hall of Fame when their playing days are up? Make the case for that player's HOF bid.

These two teams have a number of very solid hall of fame candidates, bolstered by the fact that players on both teams will now have (at least) one ring to add to the cabinet. I'd say Phelps, Kryyst, and Lagerfield are locks, and without looking at any stats I'd be willing to wager that Kurczewski and Smyth have great cases to be made as well. The lower-level scrub I'll throw my support behind is Gabriel Johnson, just kidding. With the longevity and sustained success that Phelps has had, I'd say he's as close to a sure thing as there is for the hall of fame when his old ass finally retires!

It seems that we hath traded star Ola
And Rex and Boris and Guy and even Dick
To these ex-wolves we now must say so long
The sight of Zheng's ass now just makes me sick

The picks are plenty and the future's bright
I reckon that we'll hoist our own cup soon
And every new wolf is a welcome sight
Together we'll be howling at the moon (?)

For now I'll try to get a lot of goals
And also play good defense when I can
I will be voted "coolest" in the poles
I'll walk around the town like i'm "Da Man"

I'm swimming in a sea of draft picks now
Gonna eat a steak from julio tokolosh's cow

Welp, you waited until the last day to grind out your CW and the CC finals are longggggggg over by now. congrats to [TEAM], woo! Reflecting back on the series, who gets your vote for series MVP? Make the case why this player deserves it over any other.

If I'm being totally totally honest, I expected a sweep here........ for Hamilton. I'd become convinced, through last season (when they beat New England in the semis) and this season (when they beat Buffalo in the semis) that they had the playoff magic working in their favor. I assumed, like was proven correct last season, that the Eastern Conference Finals would be the real finals and whoever advanced there would cruise to victory in the finals. Looks like I couldn't have been more wrong, as the Specters showed up in full force and swept. At least I'll get credit for the Finals Predictions "Will the series last longer than 5 games?" answer - no one has to know I thought the sweep would be the other way around.
