S55 PT #3 - Franchise GOAT

For Winnipeg obviously the first name to consider is Jason Visser. 950 games played, 379 goals, 559 assists, two Cup wins, consummate professional and leader. The guy was one of the most feared offensive threats in the league for years on end, he had a near record 78 point season in Season 41, and he is also the all-time league leader in peak TPE with a mind-boggling 2285, a mark that will never be touched by anyone without a restructure of how TPE works. In an FHM era Visser may have very well gotten 1000 points with the amount of talent he had.

Of course honourable mention has to go to Ron Mexico, who had such an iconic career that they named awards after him. He also won two Cups, had a 69 point Season 6 (nice), a mind-boggling 85 point season during the offensive inflation era, and a dope-ass inside reference name.

Honourable mention as well should go to Goaltender Lauris Prikulis, the Jets franchise leader in wins, a multi-time Cup winner as well, and had a .924 save % season in Simont T, which is always a rare feat.

There are certainly many different players you could consider for the title of G.O.A.T. in the Edmonton Blizzard franchise. There is not just one player that has absolutely dominated on the stat sheet. A few names that highlight the franchise are guys like Theo Kane, Tor Tuck, and Jakob Aittokallio. The player that I would like to recognize as greatest of all time for Edmonton is Jakob Aittokallio. This man was an absolute beast during his career. He went on to hold 6 John McBride Trophy (best goalie) nominations and sadly only won a single one. The year he did win was also the season this man took home the greatest individual trophy known to this league; the Ron Mexico MVP trophy. He hold the record for most franchise wins at an outstanding 402, the highest among any franchise record. He is also considered one of the most accomplished players, currently sitting in 13th place out of 25. This man was a beast in the net and deserves all the credit as franchise G.O.A.T.

When it comes to the Baltimore/West Kendall Platoon and long and storied history there are many players to consider for the greatest of all time. In my opinion the greatest player in franchise history has to be Alex Light. First off, Light holds the Platoon record for most games played with 900 which 42 more than the legendary defenseman Bojo Biscuit. Light also holds the Platoon record for most goals with 331 which is more than 100 than the second place Mikko Linna. As far as points go Light also holds the number one spot there with 726 and once again a lead of more than 100 on second place, in this case another legendary defenseman, Ludwig Koch Schroder. Light also tops the Platoon when it comes to plus minus with plus 120 on his career. To go along with all number one records Light is in third place on the Platoon assists list with 395 behind the aforementioned Platoon defensemen. Light is a Toonza in a tier that very few even get close to and even in that tier he rises above.

As a player on the Colorado Raptors there is one player that stands out to me that will go down into the history books for the team. In my honest opinion I believe that once this players career is done in the SMJHL he will be fondly remembered as one of the greats in Colorado. If you haven't guessed who I am talking about look no further than Sven Svensson. Svensson has been a leader on this Colorado team for many seasons and is currently on a point per game pace, and has elite scoring ability. In the FHM era Svensson is leading the team in points and goals and I expect no player to catch up to his historical totals on this team.

I do believe that when Svensson gets the call to the SHL his legacy will be left behind in Colorado as one of the best players in Colorado history, and it will be extremely difficult to replicate his amazing vision, and generational scoring abillity, those 2 traits will list him as the GOAT in Colorado.

There is absolutely no question as to the Calgary Dragons GOAT. And no it's not Esa Anrikannen sorry bro. Hunter Wong is and always will be the standard to which the Dragon players will be held. During his I think 17 seasons in Calgary Wongy won an astounding 6 cups. It is doubtful that this record will ever be even matched let alone topped. He is of course the Dragons all time win leader and is now either 2nd or 3rd in SHL history for wins by a goaltender. Wongy was also the consummate teammate in the locker room as well. While I know Esa holds damn near every Dragon's record he didn't play goal and I believe it was Wong's steady presence that just as much as anything else led to Calgary's success. Both legendary Dragons are of course in the SHL Hall of Fame. However I think the goalies never get enough credit and always take too much of the blame so I'm going with Hunter Wong as the Drgaon's GOAT.

Just by looking at the franchise records page, it's easy to see who is the GOAT for the Minnesota Chiefs. Alonzo Garbanzo holds the franchise record for lets see here: Most Games Played, Most Assists, Most Points, Most Hits, and Most Shots Blocked. Thats every category except goals. Being one of the greatest defensemen in SHL history makes the claim of him being the GOAT of Minnesota that much easier. Garbanzo has also one numerous awards during his illustrious career. He has been a First Team All Star 9 times, Second Team twice, and Third Team twice. He has won 5 Scott Stevens as the top defensemen in the league, as well as 5 other nominations. He has won both a Ron Mexico trophy and an Adrian Richard trophy. He also has a challenge cup to his name which he won in S39. To top it all off he is a Hall of Famer as well. There is not doubt in my mind that Alonzo Garbanzo is the GOAT for the Chiefs franchise.

With New Orleans currently being one of the youngest franchises in the SHL, when you take a look at their franchise leaders, the one name that you see over and over again in DeMarcius Smyth.  He leads NOLA in games played (tied with Nicholas Williams and Joe K.), goals, assists and points.  Being one of the inaugural Specters, Smyth has been a mainstay for New Orleans.  The dynamic skater lead the team as a forward for several seasons, before making the change to a defender a few seasons back.  Smyth has not only lead by example on the ice, he has been an amazing teammate off the ice as well. My player is lucky enough to be able to be on the same defensive pairing as Smyth and has benefited geatly from playing which such a quality teammate. Smyth's records may not stand for ever, since he has not played his entire career in purple and black, but in my eyes, he will always be considered the GOAT of NOLA.

I'm going to talk about my favourite player of all time who is no doubt going to be the greatest of all time (or GOAT as the cool kids say it or so I've heard because I am not a cool kid so it's kind of hard to be sure anyway yeah I would say he is kind of the greatest of all time or maybe even the "JODAN" of the team), GABRIEL @Gwdjohnson JOHNSON, also known as Mr. GoneWild himself. Ok so I might have been overhyping him a little bit since he's still a bit of a young gun and definitely doesn't deserve the greatest of all time tag just yet but he'll get there with time -- my man's chugging along slurping up all the TPE he can possibly carry and he's on contract for literal years so he can't even leave if he wants to, he's stuck in the steelhawks prison forever so he'll be forced to become the GOAT anyway as long as he doesn't start putting all his TPE in fighting or aggression or some shit in which case golden apricot will slap him upside the head also I just realized that with the new contract term limits Gabe will actually be able to escape from the hamilton prison in a few seasons so it's possible that he can walk but very unlikely since he also wants to become the hamilton goat one day.

The undisputed, absolute Greatest Of All Time player for the Buffalo Stampede is Monkey D. Luffy. The current captain of the Stampede squad has led the team to two Challenge Cup Finals very early on, including a Challenge Cup in his very first season in the league in Season 48. Luffy was just a young rookie then, and now he is a savvy veteran at the absolute top of his game, netting well over 25 goals and assists this season and in pursuit of the elusive 30/30 season that would cement this season of his as one of the all time greats. Luffy is a bonafide star on the first line of the Stampede, a scoring machine with great vision on the ice to spot out teammates and the creativity to get the puck there. As the Stampede roll into expansion with a pretty bloated roster, you can count on Luffy being one of the first protections.

As a prospect for the Edmonton Blizzard I thought I would use this opportunity to take a look and learn some of the history of the franchise. I found that there are few players that you could make the argument for as being the franchise’s greatest of all time. You look at franchise records you see names like Theo Kane, Tor Tuck, Jakub Aittokallio. You look beyond franchise records and you see Tommy Tuck, a monster in goal who dominated the league during his playing days.

The player that I am choosing might not actually be the GOAT yet, but at the end of their career should have that consideration, Tony Pepperoni. Theo Kane currently holds the franchise record for most goals and points, but I think its very plausible that Mr. Pepperoni breaks those records before retiring. He is already a two time Challenge Cup Champion. Pepperoni won the scoring title in Season 51 while taking home both the league MVP and the players MVP, and was a nominee in season 54 for league MVP. He is also a 3 time 1st team All-Star, well on his way in S55 for his 4th time. Also something of note, since joining the team, Edmonton has not missed the playoffs.

I'd do Toronto, but the answer is pretty much set in stone as Kristian Eriksson owns basically all the franchise records, so instead I'll look at another team and say that Jason Visser is the GOAT of the Winnipeg Jets. If not for a short career, Visser would undoubtedly be the GOAT of the entire league, but he still has one of the most storied careers in SHL history. With 938 points in 950 career regular season games, he is without a doubt one of the league's greatest scorers in history, and his consistency is really where he shines. From S35 to S50, he had at least 40 points in 13 of the 15 seasons and the two misses were only by one point each. The Jets have had many a great player and Visser played alongside of many of them, but he was the glue to bring the best out of them as he managed to win two league MVPs and two Challenge Cups.

For the Platoon I really don't think anyone can contest Bojo Biscuit as a franchise GOAT.  However, for us his GOAT status goes beyond the player with his franchise leading assist total and induction to the Hall of Fame.  Those are absolutely incredible, but what truly makes Biscuit the Platoon GOAT is the user behind the player who logged an incredible 16 seasons out in West Kendall (before the franchise moved to Baltimore of course).  This past offseason saw a landmark trade where .bojo's current player was traded away and I think the best way to capture the impact he's had on the Platoon is a quote I saw in the immediate aftermath of the deal.  I don't remember who said it, but I was talking and someone said, "he IS the Platoon."  If that doesn't warrant franchise GOAT status to be so inextricably tied to one team, then I don't know what does.

Jack Durden is likely the GOAT of the Texas Renegades. Durden was the leader of the Renes for 18 seasons, and leads the franchise in nearly every important statistical category. In total he played 900 games for the Renegades, scoring 755 points in that time. Durden was a staple on the Renes top line and was named a third team all star four times. He also stepped it up in the playoffs, leading the Renes to a Challenge Cup and winning the Razov as playoff MVP along the way. Other players in contention for the franchise GOAT and Chris Partlow and Elias Armia. Partlow played 14 seasons with the Renes and was the leader of the dominant cup-winning teams in the early S20s in addition to being a perennial contender for the Stevens award. Lastly, Armia had a much shorter tenure in Texas, but was utterly dominant in that time including a record-setting 88 points in Season 11.

The easiest answer for GOAT that will be a 1st Ballot Hall of Famer, should have his jersey number retired by the organization, and a banner in the rafters is @Mike Izzy of the Calgary Dragons.

Ryu has many memories from his youth of watching all of the Dragons games when Mike Izzy was just entering the league and neither he, nor the cameras, could look away from his amazing performance, even at such an early time in his career.
Mike made his mark on the league in his first season with an astounding 149 Hits, making sure everyone had to keep their eyes on where he was at all times of the game.  He topped 200 Hits in 7 different seasons through his career.  With 17 games left in his final season, his career total of Hits is currently sitting at 3,531, almost one thousand clear of the next player on the all-time list for all players in the league, and for just Calgary he has 1,477 more than the next closest, Esa Anrikkanen.
Speaking of Esa, Mike is only 158 Goals behind him despite a VAST difference in the amount of games that they played (Mike has played 933 to Esa’s 1,458), so Mike was also a force in the Offensive Zone to boot.
Mike has a pretty full Trophy Cabinet as well, with 3 Challenge Cup Trophies (S40, S42, and S50), 3 Bronze Medals from the IIHF (S43, S45, and S47), the Damian Littleton Trophy from S43, the IIHF Top Forward Award from S46, the Jeff Dar Award from S47, the Jay McDonald from S49, and the Anton Razov for being the Playoff MVP in their S50 Cup run.  He was nominated for many of these during this time as well:
  • • Ron Mexico in S49
  • • Jeff Dar in S42, S43, S44, S46, S48, S49, and S50
  • • Anton Razov in S42
  • • Damian Littleton in S45, and S47
He was named to a handful of All-Star teams during this time as well, the 2nd Team in S44 and S48, and the 3rd Team in S39, S49, and S50.
