S55 mPT #4 - Make The Case

Code:
No one can hold a candle to the Berserkers; they will hoist the Four Star Cup
Against:
Depending on the match ups they get early on in the playoffs, the Berzerkers could be in trouble. There's a good chance they might have to play the Scarecrows in the first round of the playoffs, and despite the Crows having a less than stellar record, they've been able to beat Newfoundland 3 out of 4 games in the season series.

FOR - Newfoundland is the best and definitely deserves to win a four star cup. However cups arent earned, they're won. The Zerkers need to get a solid post-season performance in, which i have no doubt they will.

The New England Wolfpack are the best team that won't make the playoffs

Agreed, the Wolfpack had a great season and almost made the playoffs when most didn't expect as much from them after all their moves in the offseason.

Against.

The President's Trophy curse exists for a reason and I don't see why NOLA would be any different from any other team. Plus, I have Buffalo winning the cup this season anyway.

Against. Was this written incorrectly because not only did NOLA not win the President's trophy, they finished 4th. While NOLA has a decent shot at a cup, I think they will have a tough time against Edmonton and whoever makes it out of the East if they get that far. If we're talking about Buffalo winning the President's trophy I think they're currently cup favourites, but not in an overwhelming manner. All the teams in the East have a solid chance at making the finals.

Of the major trades that have gone down in the past month, Edmonton's move for Theo Morgan stands out as the best of all

AGAINST
Mainly because of Buffalo's trade for EVO. That hands down has to be the best trade. They did not give up much of anything and get a 1000 tpe upgrade over Joek. Buffalo now has many 2000+ tpe players and the cup is there's to lose

New Orleans will break the FHM President's Trophy Curse and win the Challenge Cup as well

New Orleans did not even win the President's Trophy so I'm not sure how they could break that curse. I guess that splits this into a two part question. Will the President's Trophy Curse be broken, and will the Specters win the Challenge Cup?

To the first part I say no. The President's Trophy winner being Buffalo, and me being a Buffalo prospect, you would think I would be all-in on the bandwagon. Of course I want them to win, but ever the pessimist, I think Edmonton has the best chance here. Their regular seasons were very close - tying in points and Edmonton leading in Goals For while Buffalo leads in Goals Against. Head to Head they've each won a close game. But lots of playoff testing in the Newfoundland locker room has revealed that the Blizzard have the highest chance of winning the Challenge Cup. Overwhelmingly so. This is why I've changed my prediction to Edmonton in 6. I can hope that Buffalo will win, but if they don't, I at least get a nice TPE consolation prize.

The second part is do I think New Orleans will win the Cup? The answer to that as you can see above is no. I believe they will be beaten by Edmonton, also in 6 games. New Orleans is a very strong contender, but Edmonton is scary after they picked up those incredible piece in Bo Kane and Theo Morgan. I would have certainly matched them up against Buffalo before the trades, but now I just can't. Edmonton has won three of their four match-ups.

Code:
A bit forward-looking here, but Tampa Bay will continue their drastic improvement and win double-digit games next season

I think the rise of Tampa Bay is now. They are in an excellent position for the expansion draft, not losing anyone of importance, and will be soon bringing in their large prospect pool to fill in those inactive spots. Tampa won 8 games this season. Is two more out of reach? Absolutely not. Double-digit wins is all but guaranteed. They will be replacing 300 TPE defenseman Johnny Sins with 800 TPE Ambacas Cuddles. 499 TPE center Taisei-Tiikeri Wawazat potentially with one of their 500+ TPE S54 centers. Or just bring in 732 TPE Zoltan Topalo. And these guys are big earners too, likely to be another 50 or more TPE by the time they hit the ice for Tampa Bay. Upgrades are all around.

Code:
The New England Wolfpack are the best team that won't make the playoffs

Well New England didn't make the playoffs. So that much is true. The only other team you can really argue is the Winnipeg Jets. They matched New England in Goals For, but trailed a heavy margin in Goals Against. In fact New England still had a positive Goal Differential. No other team outside of the playoffs can boast that. The Wolfpack were destined to be much worse than they turned out to be. You'll see some very high PDO for them in the Advanced Stats section actually. So I think we can say conclusively that New England was the best team to miss the playoffs. Did they deserve to be in? No. But they almost snuck in there.

Code:
The MVP awards are Monkey D Luffy's to lose

The MVP awards are NOT Monkey D Luffy's to lose. I hate to go against Buffalo again but the stats are out there. Luffy does not have the most points in the league, that goes to Aaron Wilson. But Wilson has a few less goals. Maybe that makes up for it? In that case I would argue for Theo Morgan. Three less points, but 5 more goals than Luffy. Either way he won't win from a points perspective. The other thing to consider is that Luffy is on the most stacked team in the league. But Morgan and to a lesser extent Wilson are too. So who is the pick for the most valuable? Daniel Smeb put up similar numbers as Luffy for a Chicago team that is not quite the powerhouse. He put in work on both ends too, with 46 shots blocked. Texas likely wouldn't have made the playoffs without Andreas Kvalheim. The center put up 60 points, 103 hits, and 70 shots blocked. If I had to objectively choose an MVP, it would be Wilson, Morgan, Smeb, or Kvalheim over Luffy.

Code:
Scholz or Kirkby will win the Stevens Award for best defenseman

I think that's a sound assessment. Scholz has a good lead in points, while still maintaining a balance of hits and shots blocked. Kirkby has the shots blocked metric down, and if that's what screams good defense to you, Kirkby is your guy. Parker Smeb didn't have quite the All-Star season as last, but that god-like 256 hits is still something that can't be ignored.

Code:
THE RETURN OF CAMERON CARTER - CCII will land on an all-star team!

Cameron Carter II is an all-star so whatever team he lands on will be an all-star team. Cameron Carter II elevates every team he is on to championship level.

Code:
Parker Smeb is the toughest player in the entire SHL

It's tempting, because that is a crazy amount of hits, but toughest to me means hits and shots blocked. Shots blocked is where Nat Emerson has a massive edge. 132 hits, and 235 shots blocked. Smeb has a mere 34 shots blocked. So truthfully it depends on how you weight the two stats. I think taking slap-shots to the chest is on par with smacking someone into the boards, so Emerson wins it for me.

Code:
Collin Gibbles will finish with the most takeaways in the league for the third straight season

Collin Gibbles has 68. Nat Emerson in second has 48. There are 0 games left in the regular season. I think he wins this one.

Code:
The Calgary Dragons are the team that most urgently needs to make a deadline move

I don't think the Dragons need to urgently do anything. I don't think they have a chance in this playoffs to be honest. New Orleans or Edmonton will surely make quick work of them. Though admittedly there is a sliver of a chance. Calgary lost three of four to New Orleans but won the most recent game. Crazy enough, Calgary swept Buffalo in their regular season series, so should they make it all the way to the Cup Buffalo might not know what to do.

Code:
Of the major trades that have gone down in the past month, Edmonton's move for Theo Morgan stands out as the best of all

Theo Morgan is up there, but ultimately the best trade is Buffalo's move for Eko Van Otter. They picked up an All-Star talent for their Cup run, easily putting them past the rest of the East and in pole position to win it all. At the same time the lose one less player to expansion. Every player on Buffalo is major talent so that is invaluable. Especially with the S53 class of Seppala, Harrington, and Roach able to be poached, when they'll desperately want to hang on to all three for the future.

Code:
The new expansion teams should be placed in West Virginia and Montana #NOLEAKS

I don't think anyone could say no to the West Virginia Country Roads. Or the Montana Little Friends.

Code:
No one can hold a candle to the Berserkers; they will hoist the Four Star Cup

The SMJHL is always very close due to the TPE caps. To say no one can hold a candle is naive. The Kraken trail by just 1 point, and have Goals For by 3 points. The Armada have Goals Against by 11. The Berserkers are very well rounded and are certainly the favorites, but Carolina or Anchorage are both solid contenders for the Four Star. Anchorage is 2-1 in the series against Newfoundland so they are the scariest opponent right now.

Of course we are, traded away 8 starters from last season and it came down to a tiebreaker to decide who made the playoffs. Can't wait for next year.

For. I believe that Tampa will hit at least 10 years next year. They have a strong young core that will only get better over the off season. That mixed with a weak bottom of the conference should allow Tampa to hit 10 wins.

Code:
Of the major trades that have gone down in the past month, Edmonton's move for Theo Morgan stands out as the best of all

FOR:
This one to me definitely was the trade of the year and it showed for Edmonton for sure. Theo Morgan had the most goals in the league (37) and was tied for 4th with his teammate, and pretty sure his linemate, for the most points in the league at 69 points (Niiice!).

Code:
The MVP awards are Monkey D Luffy's to lose

AGAINST:
I do not think it is his to lose no. He had an amazing year for sure, do not get me wrong but he did not have the most points in the league. I do think he is in running for MVP(s) for sure but the unanimous winner, nope. There are a few candidates this season, Aaron Wilson (points leader), and Daniel Smeb who had the same number of points as Luffy.

Code:
Collin Gibbles will finish with the most takeaways in the league for the third straight season

FOR:
I mean he was so far ahead before the last few steams so yes he will and he did. Has been a monster at removing the puck from the opposition and will continue to do so and with the new young talent coming up for Mnny this will help a lot and not make these takeaways feel kind of useless in a way.

Code:
No one can hold a candle to the Berserkers; they will hoist the Four Star Cup

AGAINST:
I do not believe that they will, because I believe in Cinderella stories and believe that the Quebec City Citadelles will pull a Vegas Golden Knights move but actually pull it off and win in their inaugural season!

FOR!

I mean, how can you argue against this? He lead the league in goals with 37 and was a key part of Edmonton's dynamic offensive group which is one of the best in the league.

The New England Wolfpack are the best team that won't make the playoffs

FOR: Why you may ask? Two names, [b]Mitchell van der Heijden(@bluesfan55) and Stan Hanson. Just look at these two, van der Heijden, the man who carried NOLA to a cup and, Hanson, arguably the most decorated rookie coming into this season. Of course you can't forget about Eller(@Ace), Yxskaft(@kenvald), Hroch(@Jabs), Volkov(@TheHockeyist), McShotty(@bbjygm), and McGavin. With talent like this, how is it they are not in the playoffs?
