S56 mPT #0 - Bold (ish) Predictions
(This post was last modified: 09-24-2020, 03:34 AM by overdoo.)

Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will

Sort of bold, and I'll say it could happen. I say this because despite the better amount of wins last season, Tampa Bay still isn't all there in many positions. San Francisco, in my opinion of course, has enough to beat the Barracuda in the standings. Once the season starts, my opinion doesn't really matter, and anything could happen, but I think there is a better chance Tampa Bay finishes last again.

The Toronto North Stars will finish with fewer points than the Seattle Argonauts

I can also see this happening. Seattle got some really good players to start their first season off with, but I think what could weigh them down is goaltending. Their stellar defense, aside from one player, should be enough to stop anything bad from happening to their starter. The 200 or so backup they have though? Could cause a problem whenever they start him. I guess I just have more faith in Seattle and Tig than Toronto at this point, because I don't know a crazy ton about Toronto.

Neither expansion team will make the playoffs

Depending who is reading, it might not be so bold. I really, truly believe that Atlanta, or even Seattle if something happens, have a shot at playoffs. To go far? Don't think so, but that is another question. I think there is enough things that could go wrong for teams in their divisions to let at least one of them slip in, and that is not considering one of the two play extraordinary, which is always possible.

Chicago will win the President's Trophy

Very hot, and wrong. Hamilton is looking real good for this season, I really don't see Chicago being the team that would top them if any team will be. Don't really know what else to say about this one.

Texas will be the top team in the Western Conference

Again, very hot, and wrong. Calgary, Edmonton, and maybe even New Orleans, depending how the start of their season goes, are all very good teams that Texas will have to beat out. I say this with the same logic I will use with Nevada later; it isn't the team, it is the situation. It is hard to win, let alone beat teams that (in my opinion of course) are better than you.

The winner of the McBride Award (top goaltender) will come from the Atlantic Division

Hot, and I don't think it will happen. Still thinking a team like Buffalo with Doyle will take this award, just based on being good. There are three teams in the Atlantic that just aren't fantastic, and while Eller was incredible for New England last year, I don't see him repeating. Manhattan could have a chance I suppose, and I hope so considering I have them in fantasy, but I don't think they are the favourite and they're the best on the Atlantic, as far as my SHL knowledge goes.

New Orleans will see a significant decline and barely make the playoffs

I don't think this is hot.. but I'll say it is wrong. I see a decline very possible, they lost great players in the expansion draft, and FA, they lost Cain which is huge, and may not have a good enough defense to really bail out a mid tier goalie consistently. I still see playoffs as a very real scenario for the Specters, but a decline is likely. I don't think their division is strong enough for a decline to automatically mean that they are out of a playoff spot.

The long reign of Edmonton and Calgary is over - neither of these teams will finish the season atop the Northwest Division standings

Very hot, and I disagree. If it said one won't place top 2, I could see it. For neither to finish first in their division? Just doesn't sit right with me. One may not do as great as the other, but I don't see a world where Minnesota, Seattle, or Winnipeg beat them out. Maybe something big like a trade happens mid-season that changes that, but it just is not a possibility for me at this point in time.

Neither Buffalo nor Hamilton will make the Challenge Cup finals

Hot, considering the hype for Hamilton, and obviously both teams' recent success. Also, being in the same division, if both make playoffs, one is making it to the next round worst case scenario. They will put up a fight the rest of the way, and it will be a strong one. I will go with this being wrong, for now. I'm running Hamilton for a few of my predictions so I should not back down on that.

There will be no major scandals during the season

Very hot, very wrong. Something will come up this season, whether with a player or a user. We've already sort of kicked it off, and it is only preseason. I expect something to happen, cannot predict what, who, or when though. No way we get through a season without some drama.

Monkey D Luffy, extra TPE and all, will have a worse season than he did in S55

I question calling this a hot take, because he had a great season. It wouldn't be hard to be worse than he was, even with a "stronger build". You never know how an extra stat could affect you. Plus, a big portion has to do with teammate performance as well, it isn't solely on him. I think I'll have to take the side of him being worse, but not by enough to call this a hot take. I think he'll come close and nobody involved will complain.

Someone from the S53 draft class will win rookie of the year

is this a hot take..? Listen, coming off last year of eligibility (without waivers), there are plenty of good TPE, active players. I think all likelihood points to this happening, and it would be a hotter take to say S54, or, get real real spicy, and say S55. I agree with it, not sure if I am missing something here, but I see this as something that will happen. I just fail to see how it is a hot take.

The Nevada Battleborn will win the Four Star Cup

Bold, and wrong. This is nothing to do with the actual team of Nevada, and everything to do with the fact that even if they are incredibly strong, there are other teams that will be ready to compete, will be powerhouses, and will make good runs. I find it so hard that you can say with any certainty, whether it is a hot take or not, that a certain team will win the championship, no matter what league. Of course teams will have better chances than others, but anything can happen. Teams can get lucky. Teams can go on winning streaks, losing streaks, or flop back and forth. One bad streak in playoffs and that is all it takes. Plus, with every team in the SMJHL being able to play in playoffs, it'll be even harder if the Battleborn end up in a position where they don't have a first round bye. No matter who the opponent is, it is another round that must be played, and another chance that they are eliminated.

The Detroit Falcons will return to dominance and be a top 3 team in the SMJHL regular season

With the turnover in the SMJHL, you never know. However, I feel like teams such as QCC, with young talent, and lots of it, could have real good seasons. There are also top teams from last season that really are not losing players, and I think that makes a difference too. Possible, but I will say no for now. We will see what happens in the sim though, what I say doesn't matter.

Code:
Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will
This is not a bold prediction, the Pride will be hindered by the 12m cap penalty and will fully embrace the tanking this season. Further potentially trading away assets to secure a brighter future while simultaneously ensuring they obtain the worst record this season.

Code:
The Toronto North Stars will finish with fewer points than the Seattle Argonauts
The North Stars division is insanely stacked at the top and with that Toronto will face extremely tough opponents and will end up with less points than the Seattle Argonauts

Code:
Neither expansion team will make the playoffs
This is wrong as Atalanta Inferno drafted themselves a strong team off the bat and will definitely make the playoffs in their inaugural season.

Code:
Chicago will win the President's Trophy
The Buffalo Stampede will just beat out Chicago and win the President's Trophy. The stronger team for the Stampede will secure the few extra points they will need.

Code:
Texas will be the top team in the Western Conference
Texas will not be the top team in the Western Conference, that will be the New Orleans Specters who will remain a competitive team for the season.

Code:
The winner of the McBride Award (top goaltender) will come from the Atlantic Division
This is not a bold take as former rookie of the year Frans Eller will continue his great goaltending and will win the prestigious award!

Code:
New Orleans will see a significant decline and barely make the playoffs
This is false as New Orleans will remain a competitive team and be top of their division for at least this season as well.

Code:
The long reign of Edmonton and Calgary is over - neither of these teams will finish the season atop the Northwest Division standings
This is wrong as while the Jets are looking strong, they're still not up to the task of toppling Edmonton or Calgary

Code:
Neither Buffalo nor Hamilton will make the Challenge Cup finals
This is wrong as the Stampede are far too good of a team to not make it out and should the need arise secure some assets to defend their title.

Code:
There will be no major scandals during the season
This is wrong, the first scandal will come half way through the season and it will be another double traded draft pick.

Code:
Monkey D Luffy, extra TPE and all, will have a worse season than he did in S55
This is not a bold prediction, the Stampede, while still dominant, has lost some good player and Luffy will not reach the level he was at last season with less support.

Code:
Someone from the S53 draft class will win rookie of the year
This is wrong as the rookie of the year will be Mikkel Asmus Sondergard who'll have a tremendous season in Texas, being a key defensive player, and claim the award.

Code:
The Nevada Battleborn will win the Four Star Cup
This is wrong as the Maine Timber will win the Four Star Cup, Battleborn will have a better season than S55, but will still not make the finals.

Code:
The Detroit Falcons will return to dominance and be a top 3 team in the SMJHL regular season
This is false, the Falcons will need another season with growth for their juniors before they can return to their previous dominance. Additionally, this season they'll fall below the Battleborn

Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will

I think this is true, tampa bay already had a significant increase over the season before that ( trust me, i betted TBB under , i noticed a loss there pretty quickly). So i think TBB is on the upswing now and could indeed no longer be the worst team in the league

Former players:
Ivo Willems (S9 SMJHL) (S10-28 SHL)
Xander Green  (S33-35 SMJHL) (S36-47 SHL)
Vorian Atreides (S49-51 SMJHL) (S52-61 SHL)

Code:
The Nevada Battleborn will win the Four Star Cup

That is not gonna happen. For sure many of their players trained well last season, but only 3 of them already reached 425 cap. Also majority of their players are S56 and S57 and they can only go to 350.

Neither expansion team will make the playoffs

This is wrong, I believe that both expansion teams will get into the playoffs this season. The talent in the league has been even more consolidated to the top, making me believe that they can both sneak in by beating up on the rebuilding teams.

There will be no major scandals during the season

I think having an entire season with no drama/scandal is inevitable. There is bound to be at least ONE person who gets angry, or vents frustrations out in the discord or on the website that will spark an entire incident. Can't predict people's feelings LOL

Chicago will win the President's Trophy

so i asked kyl about this one and he says its wrong. Whats more, they lost in the offseason - while they did add sweg, other teams such as Hamilton just got so much stronger.

Neither Buffalo nor Hamilton will make the Challenge Cup finals

I think this is a hot take that will pan out because the Rage are ready to take it all the way this season. We proved we could do it in STHS, but weve locked down some top talent and our coaches are ready to bring us back to the finals.

Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will

Lol no. Tampa knows how to finish last and they will finish last. They are the elite in the dumpster trophy and they really want that so no way. Also, the pride are just bad. They do not know how to win and they do not know how to lose properly.

Someone from the S53 draft class will win rookie of the year

In what world is this anywhere close to a bold prediction? The S53 draft class is the oldest possible rookie class, players from this class will have the most possible TPE of any rookie, on top of that it's a reddit class so there will be plenty of players to choose from. Not bold at all, if anything pretty obvious.

Yeah, right. Let's face it, there will be some type of scandal this season. As if there isn't enough drama in the US with the election cycle in full swing, someone in this league will take it upon themselves to add to the drama.

This isn't really bold, as S53 was a loaded class with a lot of players that had extra seasoning in the J. There is a torrent of high TPE players that played very well in the J in good situations in the big leagues that they should be able to thrive. With a few seasons of FHM in which to analyze good attributes to spend TPE on when uncapping, it will be a fun race to see how the uncapping of TPE will enhance the rookie race.

Someone from the S53 draft class will win rookie of the year

Yes. The S53 class is stacked and have a number of players moving in to positions to succeed immediately. Only a few S54 players are moving up, and I can't see any of them playing at the level that some of these with 1k TPE are going to be at.

Tampa Bay will not finish with the worst record this season - San Francisco will
Against. With the penalties to their cap San Francisco certainly has a good chance at securing the worst record, but the talent in the east exceeds the talent in the west and Tampa will need to play the likes of Buffalo, Manhattan, Chicago and Hamilton far more than San Francisco will. It'll be tight, but I still think Tampa will have the worst record.

Code:
Texas will be the top team in the Western Conference
Against. They took a big step in the right direction last season with a playoff appearance, but top of the West this season is pretty bold fellas. I think they'll finish this season with another playoff appearance.

Code:
The long reign of Edmonton and Calgary is over - neither of these teams will finish the season atop the Northwest Division standings
Against. While I will agree it has become a more contested division this season, Calgary and Edmonton still have the superior rosters over Minnesota, Winnipeg and the recently added Seattle. It won't be a run away like last season, but I still have Edmonton, Calgary going 1 and 2.

Yeah, yeah they are. I trust my boy the Nok and I know he's going to put together a kickass team that's going to go all the way next season. Plus, those jerseys would look so nice lifting a cup, it would be a shame for the rest of the SMJHL to stop it from happening. Battleborn in 6!
