The idea of the most important stat is all dependent on what position you are playing. The most important stat for centers is how good you are at faceoffs. Some may say you should focus on your scoring ability or your defensive ability but they are wrong. As a center your whole job is to win the puck in the faceoff dot. It is your teams job to do the rest. If your opponents cant get the puck off the dot they are statistically less likely to score. The better you are at faceoffs the higher your teams chances are to score and the lower your opponents chances are. Its that simple. Win the faceoff win the game. And if you're winning faceoffs but still not winning the game it is entirely your teammates faults for slacking.

The most important stat ultimately depends on your position and what kind of player you want to be, but stamina is probably the most important because it is key for all players. You don't want your guy getting all winded on the ice, do you? Get that stamina up, rookie.

If I had to pick a single stat to call the "most important", I would pick defensive read. While it seems sexy to build an all out offensive monster, the ability to play solid smart defense gives your player much more potential in any roster. A goal scorer who isn't scoring goals is a liability. A player who can contribute on both ends of the ice is always useful and will contribute.

Thank you @Ragnar  for the Sig!

For a goalie, I would tell the new user that there really are two important stats to build into early on. Those are Positioning and Reflexes. More importantly, I would try to get them to do a 325 TPE build with the player builder tool and review it, adjusting it if there’s a need. (54 words)

Alright so this question really bothers me. Why? Because until I read the prompt closely, I thought I could just shitpost my way to spamming enough words for the prompt requirement. But then you said that it was a new player asking and suddenly I felt terrible trying to mislead them. Such a thing would be unconscionable, so I guess I'll answer this honestly. Alright so it all depends on if you're a predominantly forward or offense leaning player, or a mainly defense or defenseman focused player. For the former, you want Offensive Read, for the latter you want Defensive Read. I'm not making a joke out of this, some ridiculous reach that "Oh fighting is the most important because if you ignorantly boost it you'll be terrible and therefore it's the most important" because that's against the spirit of the question, it's a wild reach. Your Read stats are your most important because they enable and utilize all other stats in your offensive and defensive categories. Think of them like your brain, or the cpu in a computer. Your arms may be strong or your core strength amazing, but your brain is what tells them to move the puck or take the hit and stay standing. If your brain can't handle that, then it doesn't matter how fantastic your skating skills are. You could have the greatest graphics card in the world and the most RAM ever, but if your CPU isn't able to handle it then what's the point? Your Read stats enable the rest of your stats to succeed, even more than physicals sometimes. Improve your brain, improve your Reads.

Well if they are asking me they are clearly a goalie and since that will be the case I will tell them positioning is pretty as well as reflexes. Although if your a starter you definitely don't want to be cheap with the stamina either.

How can I even know what to tell someone the most important stat is if I don't know what kind of player they are building! Lets go with Goalie, just because. The most important stat for sure is Glove. Just max it out. There is nothing like watching highlight reels with goalies just flashing the glove left and right. Also, who needs a blocker when you can just reach across your body and catch the puck with the glove. Shooter is going glove side, boom, glove save. Shooter is going high blocker side. Just reach out with the glove and grab it. Surprise five hole shot? Reach down, grab it with the glove. is the puck going wide? Reach out with the glove and stop play. Scrum in front of the net, players everywhere. Reach out and cover the puck. WITH THE GLOVE! Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I am inclined to say that defensive read is going to be a very good and important stat for new players. Especially if you get called up from the juniors earlier than anticipated. Having a good defensive base first allows you to at least pull your weight a little on the ice in that you won't be scored on all the time, all the while you can slowly build up your offensive stats to become more rounded out.

The most important stat is stamina. Try setting your player to 5 stamina and see how that works out for you. However for all of my non-teammates, the most important stat is fighting. You don't want to look like a fool out there when some dude is about to drop the gloves with you.

Stamina. Stamina early on will help you to be able to keep at the performance level of your stats throughout each game you play. Past that you build for the type of build you envision your player playing as.

Go for that speed. Make yourself the new Flash. Fly past the defense, Fly past the keeper. Just fly out of the arena and never come back. Speed will always help you.

I am the wrong man to give you a advice. but be sure what type of player you want and then think what could help you to get there. Offensive or defensive read are things you should put in TPE first.

No single stat can be argued to be most important as they all have huge impact on how your player plays and it depends on role, Puck Handling.
