SHL stands for Simulation Hockey League, because my girlfriend just needs to accept that I'm a giant nerd who pretends to be a hockey player online. Oh well, it's better than yelling at other people about hockey on Twitter.

I'm gonna be honest, but I hate this kind of shit. Why would I hide the SHL? I talk to my wife about SHL. She thinks it's dorky (newsflash, I'm a dork) and doesn't quite understand it (she hardly understands real life hockey) but she understands why I like it both from a hockey standpoint and a fantasy/role-play aspect. Your partner should support your hobbies!

I belong to the Sensational Hearing League. It is a service for audiophiles where they send you audio equipment to test and try out. If you like what they send you, there is an option to purchase the equipment. Some of the stuff is not even on the market, so companies appreciate the feedback. Basically I pay other people to review things. Sounds a little silly, but it is really the only option to get all the greatest goodies for people like me who love the best quality sound for my music.

I don't have to worry about being ostracized for joining a sim hockey league when i have far more questionable weeb interests, so I would just say its the Simulation Hockey League and explain it honestly.

I talk about it honestly. To be honest, I almost talked about it in an interview for a real job, because some of the skills I showcased as an SMJHL GM directly relates to my career. Also, the nerd street cred that comes from being able to say "hockey D&D" is INFINITE.

If I were to make something up, I might say something like Shadowfell Hero Legion, and say it's the name of my D&D campaign. People accept ttprgs a bit better than... whatever the heck we're doing.

I tell them that I was talking about Sudden Hearing Lose and how exciting it was to be learning more about it. If they ask follow up questions I will say I can’t hear them due to SHL.
