S58 PT #5 New Award
#46

There are many awards out there that the eventual recreate is going to be able to win. I think the one that I want to institute is for the non-goalie player who plays the most minutes in the entire season. This would award the grinders on the team that are always going out for just one more shift in hopes that they can fix what is going down on the ice. Or just one more shift to solidify the lead. These Iron Men and Women would have the esteemed chance to win the Steel Rod the Bod Trophy. It would look like an oscar almost but the trophy is of a hockey player standing triumphant with their stick in the air saluting the metaphorical crowd. This trophy would show the rest of the league that this players dedication to the team is no joke and that they put their hard work and physicality on the line every night.

Awards are, in nature, to highlight players that excel in a singular aspect of the game. Yes, there are Most Valuable Player awards and the such that look at a players full body of work, but there is one award type that seems to be lacking. These are what I will like to call Hybrid Awards. A player that would receive such an award has standout metrics in specific categories. The first new hybrid award is called the Untouchable. This would be awarded to a player who has played in at least 50% of their games, has taken dished out the fewest amount of hits, but has still managed to pot at least 10 goals. If the ceremony were to close right now, the following candidates would be in line to receive it:

Name                  Team Pos GP  G   Hits
Zelma Zuntnere    WPG  LW  57  14  7
Jmac NCheese      MIN   LW  58  10  8
Filip Zadina          NOL   RW  59  12  12

While they may be considered weak, due to lack of physical toughness or not eating properly as a child, they have still managed to find success in the top league by contributing at least 10 goals. It is truly quite an accomplishment and proves that hitting the gym isn't everything.

Obviously the award I would win, other than playoffs MVP no big deal, would be the “Chimkin Tendy Award” which is awarded annually to the player banned for the most absurd reason. It would actually be a pretty interesting award to win, and the gnome dab is among the top most absurd reasons to ever be banned. And though it is done and over with, and apologies have been rendered, I can’t help but remind everyone that the only real attention I’ve gotten since I’ve been back from being inactive is being banned for a dabbing gnome emote. Every season at least one person gets punished in some sort of way, and most of the time the SHL populous thinks it’s bullshit. Whether it is or isn’t, that’s up for debate, but a vote can be held amongst all SHL users to award someone with the trophy every season and their name will live on in SHL lore for eternity.

Or I’m just an attention starved little bitch. Either one.

I haven't quite decided what the exact name of the award should be, but it could be a mix between something like a "Best Team Parent" award (without actually being a parent) and "Best Old Fart" in the league. Name TBD. Being the oldest player on my team it just comes naturally. I could see myself win something like this or at least be among the nominees. You often feel too old for all this shit (really, get off my lawn!) and don't understand half of the topics the rookies are talking about, but you still care about your younger teammates and other people in the league. They come to you when they need advice or help and who am I to say no? How do you even measure something like this? That's the difficult part, we can figure that out later. I'm just an overall nice person (most of the time) and I won the equivalent of 'best locker room presence' award on my team last season. Too bad you can't get in the HoF for just being a good person and since I haven't won a single individual award that means anything in this league (yet!), perhaps a new one could help.

Up until recently Patrick Shepherd was in the running for the Storm Trooper Accuracy Trophy or STAT for short. The award would be for the forwards that scored at least one goal during the regular season, but had the lowest shooting percentage. Up until the recent set of sims where Patrick suddenly scored 5 additional goals he was rocking exactly one goal scored and a whopping 2.05% shooting percentage which put him in the top 5 in lowest shooting percentage which was the inspiration for this award. As of today the actual finalists for this prestigious award would be Los Angeles Panthers LW TURG TURG with 3.92%, New England Wolfpack's Alexis Vermette with 4.00%, and Minnesota Monarch's Rocko Strongo with 4.41%. While the STAT is not a particularly prestigious award it would give some role-playing or down on their luck forwards something to compete for as the season wound down and it was clear that there were not trophies in their futures.

The award that Grape Fruit could most likely win in the SHL would be the Citrus Commendation. This award goes to the player who best exemplifies the true meaning of citrus. Now, you may be asking yourself what exactly is the true meaning of citrus and the answer is certainly quite complicated. It involves a lot of consumption of the citrus variety and scales with the amount of Hawaiian shirts worn, regardless of season. Grape Fruit has the obvious advantage of his name and playing in the city of Los Angeles, Fruit can not only wear Hawaiian shirts year round, but will not look ridiculously out of place as someone would in Winnipeg in November. This is pretty out there for an award, but it's necessary when your player has only just passed 800 TPE. Any use of positive statistics would find Grape Fruit at the bottom of the league and ultimately out of contention of any true hockey related award.

The newest award in the league should go to the member who takes the most shots over a season. Not hockey sim shots, the alcohol kind. I think this would be an easy award for someone in Newfoundland to claim with the amount of shot pings. First award goes to both @SDCore and @juke.

Oh god dammit this isn't the mPT.

We could easily make a spreadsheet for the amount of times a person pings over a season and anyone who responds should also get credit. If there is enough interest in the league we can move it to the general Discord as well and start tracking there. If I'm getting pinged in multiple channels then there is more of a chance that I can actually win an award with this player because Klompus is average at best. The member who wins the award also needs to remove 1 shooting accuracy because the more shots they take would definitely make the player less efficient. It might be an issue to encourage members to drink though... ah well!

I don’t believe Nathan Thomas will ever win an award there are way too many higher caliber players in the league that are much more deserving. That being said the only way I could win an award if to being one of the lowest TPE among active players for S55 and enjoying similar success. Would call this award something like Average low income Player award, or ALIP for short. Being one of the lowest TPE earners from the S55 class I did not make a big splash in my freshman year in the SHL but I also was not a complete dumpster fire. I think this warrants me being considered an average player on an slightly below average team. This would be about the only reason I think I could receive an award. The other rookies on the San Fran Team provided much better stats and helped carry the team to the point we are at now. These players are much more deserving of awards and recognition.

Ambacas Cuddles, defenseman for the Tampa Bay Barracuda is quite a young player and with the amount of quality defensemen playing in the league at the moment, Ambacas Cuddles will not be in the discussion for any awards for the foreseeable future. Because of this, I will be proposing to add an award in order to get the great name of Ambacas Cuddles into the mix when it comes to awards. The award that I am proposing is the "Better than Vladmir Petrov Award". This award is pretty self explanatory. This award will be given annually to Barracuda defenseman Ambacas Cuddles for undoubtedly being a better player and more valuable to his team than fellow Barracuda teammate Vladmir Petrov. First reason that Ambacas Cuddles is better than Vladmir Petrov is because Vladmir spells his name clearly wrong. Everyone knows that his name should be spelled "Vladimir" instead, so that instantly knocks off a few points from Mr. "Vladmir". I hit my word count so that will be the only reasoning I give. @Muford

A perfect award would be the TURG TURG AWARD FOR GOOD BOYS AND GIRLS WHO WANT TO LEARN HOW TO HOCKEY AND DO OTHER STUFF GOOD TOO! The TTAFGBAGWWTLHTHADOSGT award would be given to the player who most exhibits the beliefs of TURG TURG.

Those beliefs include, but are not limited to:
1. Play good, hard hockey.
2. Crash the net.
3. Pound the fuckin body, both on and off the ice.
4. Be good.
5. Protect your goalie. Block shots.
6. Fly naked.
7. Be friendly to everyone. Including your opponents.
8. Have a slick Twitter game.

In other words, it is a sportsmanship award that is given to the player who picks up large numbers of hits with few penalties and also is given to a user who shows dedication and poise in the face of adversity. Someone uncontroversial who everyone respects. Like a TURG TURG type. Thank you for listening to my presentation.
