S58 PT #5 New Award

Nothing says award winning hockey play like taking hits, body blows or blocked shots or saves on the pads.. Hockey is about hitting that puck hard, and into people often, as well as being physical on the ice with other players.

Therefore the award is going to be made possible by the took a hit index. this index will contain all the types of hits a player can recieve on the ice and then wiegh the different hits against carefully calibrated values (for example, blocked shot is worth 5, a goalie save is worth 2 etc.) and offcourse this index needs to be carefully adjusted to remove any time on ice differences so that the award is not merely given to the players who clock up the most minutes on the ice.

Also apart from normal Inactivity exclusions this award will be awarded to the highest person in the index, period, no judgements, no debates, just the person at the top of the list.

...on a more serious note, more straight up stats awards would be great, we have top scorer and top points earner, why not Top for Hits, top for Shots blocked and most saves. more is better :-)

Not sure my player would be a slam dunk to win this one but an award I would like to see is the Most Important Player award, now this is different then the MVP award because this award is dedicated to the player that is most important to their team and not the best player in the league, or the player that had the best season. I think this award would definitely help get awards to players on teams that aren't quite Cup contenders. You don't need to have super stats to compete for the award you just have to be valuable to your team. I feel like Jakub would be a top candidate for this award, being 3rd in New England in goals and points, 1st in shots blocked, and hits, and playing over a minute a game playing on both the power play and penalty kill all while playing on the 2nd line.

My boy Lemo’s last season in the J has not been easy. In fact he has fallen far from his great numbers of last season when he won the SMJHL championship with the Anchorage Armada. He was then actually nominated for two awards (best defensive forward and most underrated player), but sadly both ended up eluding him. But at some point during that last season Lemo discovered that he was in fact the only guy in the league’s top-70 in points that had received absolutely no powerplay time whatsoever. And when he finished the season 47th on that list with 39 points, and leading his own team in plus-minus with a similar +39, he thought of coining for himself the moniker ‘even-strength specialist’. So this is what I will propose here. While the terms ‘powerplay specialist’ and ‘penalty kill specialist’ are pretty common, not enough credit sometimes goes to the guys who are at their best at even strength, which ideally comprises the most of any hockey game. So not to be confused with Best Defensive Forward the ‘Even-strength specialist’ should go to the guy that has the best all-round stats without the benefit of any powerplay time and is intended perhaps to celebrate more the offensive output of those unassuming two-way workhorses of the middle-six than the flashy scoring dynamos or the gritty bottom line grinders. And Lemo would have been a shoo-in for it last season. Hopefully he’ll show the same kind of effectiveness also in the SHL soon enough as well!

After 69 shots on net with still no SHL goals to show for it, even the opposition started to feel so sorry for Lemo, that they decided to help him out :D
- Bad pass by Jack Klompus, he gave it right to Lemo Pihl.
- Lemo Pihl rips it to the net...
- Lemo Pihl will find the empty net, that should do it!

I think that Anton Mihailov could be winner candidate to award called "The biggest animal lover". We have in our Detroot Falcons locker room, place which called as Anton's Doggy Daycare and I'm extremely proud of that honor. There is a lot of cute and beautiful animals which would bring happiness and smiling to a lot of different people, including me and I would love to share that with you someday. It's also very good to see that those animals are healthy and it's important to me personally that they get their daily pets and treats, every day. Happy dog is so cute to see!

I think that I might be the reason why Anton's Doggy Daycare is so popular nowadays at Detroit. It's great to see happy customers, of course they paid money for it, but the actual customers, animals doesn't give other than their pure love and their endless happiness. Every day is new possibilities to them!

The “Colin Lambert” award would be handed out at the SMJHL level. Colin Lambert joined the St. Louis Scarecrows as an unrostered DFA. To prove his worth, he acted as the team’s equipment manager since he was unable to contribute on the ice. After earning a roster spot on the team the next season, Colin continued to act as the team’s equipment manager. He didn’t have too, but he found more enjoyment out of sharpening skates and folding jerseys than he did out on the ice. He wasn’t a natural at it, however. It’s well known throughout St. Louis that the team lost game 7 in the third round in S54 to Detroit after Lambert botched a bunch of skate-sharpening jobs on several players on the team. By the end of his tenure with St. Louis, Lambert was a master equipment manager. Players were faster after he sharpened their skates. Their jerseys were folded into swan-shapes and placed in lockers before every game and practice. Because of this, the “Colin Lambert” award would he handed out every season to the “SMJHL’s Most Improved Equipment Manager”.

There's always a lot of controversy about goalie. A lot of people say that a goalie is good only thanks to the defense they have in front of them. This will directly reflect in the awards discussions where the goalies on good team will be sitting at the top of the voting. I thus propose to have a 'best goalie of the three worst team of the league' award. This will allow those who always complain about goalie stats to have a chance to win an award as well. This year nominees would be Olli Saarinen Jr. of the New Orleans Specters, Thor Odinson of the Seattle Argonauts and Geezus Kryyst/Nicolae Antonescu the tandem of the San Francisco pride. I think of all those nominees, the one with the best stats currently is Nicolae Antonescu. Even then, his stats are pretty much horrible, since the team in front of him can use some work. Maybe in a few seasons he can do better.

So of course the new award should be something tailored just for me to win. There could be a lot of awards I could be eligible for like most underrated already as I am one of the best depth players who gets zero recognition about all the amazing things I do for the Panthers. However, I think the new award should be for the best on ice wrestler in the league. I would name it after my other wrestling promotion I also compete in during my off nights, The Rink of Honor award. As the easy recipient of the Rink of Honor award I will continuously win it every season because no one can hold a candle to my wrestling skills compared to the rest of the league and I will continue to dominate everyone with powerbombs and power slams. Keith Lee will continue to be the best there is in the SHL and also win that Rink of Honor world heavyweight championship.

Daniil Nikiforov is know for one thing only in this league at the moment. Copious amounts of shots followed up by them whistling wide of the net. So I propose we create an award called the Wild Thing Award. The nominees for this award will be those who have 100 or more shots and have under 7% shooting percentage. Because these are scoring "chances" our players are doing something positive for our team but not really a threat coming down the ice. So with the Wild Thing Award, we'll honor those with terrible eyesight. So Daniil Nikiforov would be the perfect first recipient for this trophy as he finished with a whopping 147 shots but a shooting percentage of 6.8%. And even with his 6.8% shooting percentage he had a PDO of 104.5. So nobody else deserves to be awarded this trophy more than Nikiforov. He truly was a marvel to watch, and not in a good way. Hopefully he's the first recipient but this will be the only time he wins the Wild Thing Award.

My player is actually pretty good, I just finished with the most assists in the league (60) but there isn't currently an award for that. That'd be a cool addition, but this PT is asking for an award any bum-ass player can win, so with that in mind I'd say it has to be something that's less on-ice related and more media or locker room focused. I think the player who posts the most about food in a given season, shares the most food pics or recipes or does media about food or eating competitions or anything in that realm should win this new award. The award would be called 'The Porker' because whoever wins it has to be a real pig and I mean that in a good way, like celebrating over-eating and having a large appetite like a pig. Anyone can win this, even skinny people as long as they like to eat and make food and write about food and then eat more food. I would say my eventual bum-ass recreate could win this because I already post a lot of food pics in our locker room, talk about food, have an entire story line about food and our arena in Calgary is even named after food. If I paid more attention to other discords or media storylines in the league I could probably award this every season as a joke anyway, but yeah 'The Porker' would be a coveted award for sure.

The “Occasional tryer/earner” award. Although everyone would like to be a max earner, earn all the TPE possible, have loads of great stats and win awards, it just doesn’t work like that for everyone. It’s the same thing for me. Most awards go to the people who earn well and therefore have better players which is fair enough but I think there should be an award for us people that don’t max earn but earn decently enough. Some people may think getting a award based on you not putting a lot of effort in is not fair but I’d say they’re wrong.

Bjorn Thornsen would be a perfect candidate for this award. He made his first all star team this season and is playing pretty well for the Falcons just now. Through my time in SHL I’ve never been a max earner, my player has been decent but never good enough to win a award so I’d like to be able to get a award for Bjorn based on my occasional earning as he’s still doing well.
