S59 PT #2 Your Day Off!

Usually after 6 straight days of hockey I find myself giving my body a much needed break and end up having a low key day at home. 50% of the day is spent either laid out in bed or on the couch resting the various bumps and bruises accumulated over the past week. Other than that I'll probably play video games with my friends as a low intensity way of getting some kind of stimulation that doesn't require much of my body. During longer breaks, like the summer, I'll take more time to go out and experience something new (aka something not hockey related). Traveling, seeing new places, meeting new people, eating new food, and playing at various golf courses around the world are some of my favorite things to do when I don't have to be focused on hockey 24/7. That said, I usually watch other teams during my off nights as well. I like breaks from hockey but still love it.

Oliver Cleary doesn't typically take days off but when he does, he tries to make them count. Being an older SHL player, he tries to work as hard as he can to keep himself in game shape. As such, he always sleeps in on days off. He isn't the kind of person to sleep in until 2 in the afternoon but he absolutely doesn't get up before 9 or 10 in the morning. From there, he makes himself a big breakfast. His breakfast of choice is tofu scramble with turkey bacon on the side to get a ton of protein. He will typically spend his days off playing a ton of video games with some of the other guys on the team. He is pretty fond of MLB The Show 21 currently and spends a ton of time on the game with Jax Aittokallio, Jack Klompus and Jed Mosely Jr. All in all, a pretty tame day.

Hutton went up to pick up one of his old teammates, Jimmy Wagner @sve7en, and the bastard said he had to prepare for the next game in a couple of days. A couple? That seems like a break to Hutton. So instead, Hutton took Grape Fruit @canes2112, because the kid seemed to be a little shy around the girls. Obviously, Hutton and Fruit drank an insane amount that night, and in what ended up as a Hangover-like movie the next morning, Hutton was in hot water with the LAP mafia. But it was fine, Hutton found some rando in the street that looked the exact same as little Grape Fruit, and they haven't noticed since!

Sadly, Hutton is afraid the results might show it is not the same person. But he hopes by the time it is noticed, the real Grape Fruit will turn up eventually. Who knows, maybe he is still at that one strip club.

Jimmy Wagner was confused to say the least. His old teammate Conner Hutton hit him up talking about wanting bitties and not being able to get any in New Orleans.

Questioning if it would be a good idea with the amount of prep work he wanted to do for the upcoming home and home with Seattle, he initially passed on the opportunity, offering to meet up over the All Star Break instead. As Hutton came out to Los Angeles to hang out with the youngster Grape Fruit and they started partying, Wagner cleared his schedule for the evening and he and Kate worked behind the scenes making sure Fruit made it home safe that night and rounding up some of their acting friends to impersonate a "Los Angeles Mafia" for when Conner woke up from their night out.

He's definitely not currently being extorted for the location of Lyle Odelin III's gym so that others can learn his training regiment.

NO DAYS OFF! But actually on Baltimore's off days I like to to out on the Bay in my buddy's boat and head over to Ego Alley in Annapolis and just blow off some steam.  The one downside of being a professional hockey player is how much time I have to spend inside between practices and games so my days off are special opportunities  to get some sun and try not to look as pale as the sheet of ice I earn my living on. At Ego Alley I tend to bar hop, but most of my time is spent at Pusser's trying to get some... phone numbers.  I usually end up hurling over the boat on our way back to my buddy's place and crashing on his couch which tends to make work the next morning's activities more difficult than they would have otherwise been if I listened to my coaches and just grilled out in my back yard.

After some long days at the rink and gym you definitely need some RNR to calm yourself down from your hard days work. I think everyone does their days off a little differently and for me it depends on if we're stuck out of town or lucky enough to be home for a few days. On the road usually just spend time with the boys, going out for dinner, golf or even just catch a late night movie though with all this "covid" stuff going around that makes it pretty hard so we mostly just hang around our hotel room or just go on some walks/bike rides. On the other hand if i'm lucky enough to be staying at home I go see the family and of course try to have a home cooked meal since those are far and in between while traveling city to city. I try to make time to see my childhood friends as well and play a friendly game of ball hockey any chance we get.

My Simulation Hockey League player, Evangelos Giannoupoulos of the Hamilton Steelhawks who was originally drafted second overall by the Toronto North Stars, yet now plays for the Steelhawks of the beautiful city of Hamilton, Ontario has quite a routine on his days off. However, we need to clarify something. The future best defenseman of all time does not take a day off, in fact the future GOAT has and never will take a day off in his life. He believes that if he ever takes a day off, he will fall off and ruin every single progress he has ever. He is always training, every minute of the day every single day, 24/7. However when he is not training which some may consider is when he is resting he is sleeping. That is all this simulation hockey league players does. He wakes up, eats, sleeps and repeat. No days off, no sir.

After a hard week of playing, training, and bench warming, Slap performs the act of recreation with many activities and hobbies of the recreational kind, recreationally including teammates in the recreation if they so choose.

- Crash test dummy: Slap didn't get his incredible endurance and physical fortitude from lounging around. Every weekend, Slap goes to his local car dealer and volunteers as a crash test dummy for their research department, getting paid per crash plus concussion-related medical costs.

- Organ donation: as a professional hockey player, Slap needs to have a body that recovers quickly in order to keep up with the demands of the sport. Slap trains his body for this challenge by donating slivers of his organs to research every weekend. Over the years his body has adjusted to the harsh conditions and toughened his game overall.

- Crosswords: Slap has a love for crosswords, ever since a high school bully tried to cross words with him and promptly got his face realigned. The puzzles are great mind trainers and let's him reminisce about that fun event.

Never forget

It's my day off? TIME TO FEAST. I'm starting the day off easy, sleeping in until maybe 8:30, maybe 9, maybe even 9:30. I do not really eat breakfast too often, usually just drink a protein shake, but on my day off my as well go big and perhaps I'll get some nice waffles or pancakes, or perhaps just lunch food items for breakfast. After breakfast I am eating lunch, and on a day off with weather like this, it's patio szn. Usually just cycle between the favourites, this time it's looking like it's time to hit up cactus and that means it's time for some pesto chicken quesadillas. These quesadillas are absolutely GOATed. So fucking good, my all time favourite menu item. For dinner, I have to grab some sushi, nothing too fancy, just a few rolls from a decent place close to me. Pretty reasonably priced and a lot of options, and there you have it, that's how I'm spending my day.

My hockey free days are spent with a nice mixture of adulting and relaxation. Let’s face it, when you’re playing or practicing for 6 straight days, and you’re completely focused on winning hockey games, there’s going to be some build up at home concerning different chores like dishes, laundry, and the like. So besides catching up on house work, it’s also a time to go shopping too. Be it for food, some clothes, or just something I really want. Finally, after cooking a nice meal, I like to sit back and play some video games to unwind. If that’s not really what I’m feeling, you can find me sitting near the tv, watching something on Hulu or Netflix as I catch up on my shows I’m unable to see during the week. Finally, and this is the most important thing: I’m sleeping more than usual. I’ll sleep in a bit at home before I take the dog for a walk, and I’ll probably go to bed earlier than I normally do as well. (173)

Blue LOVES spending his days off hanging out with friends over discord and playing some awesome games together like rainbow 6 siege and cs:go or like minecraft or something idk but Blue likes to have fun with his friends over discord during his free time. Blue also likes to listen to some good JAZZ and some nice middle eastern kavkazi music. Blue likes to just chill out and enjoy every second he has. Maybe make some music too. Blue recently pirated FL Studio and Ableton Live 11 and learned them so he's been starting to make some music. Blue also released some of his stuff on soundcloud. Blue also made sure to live near a park to be able to go to the park and enjoy a nice walk if he ever gets too stressed. Blue might also spend some time on his favorite simulation hockey website, shl or simulationhockey.com

Welcome to the hall, Ben!

After six straight days of games or practice, Ole is probably ready to take a nap. He puts all of his effort in during his work, and would be exhausted after working that hard for that long. He'd probably also spend some time reading or listening to music to help him relax and get himself ready for a return to the ice. Ole would likely reach out to some teammates or other friends to hang out, as well, and head to the local pub for a few drinks. Olson particularly enjoys movies and would probably spend at least part of his day off hitting up the best locally-owned theater and seeing a new film. Doesn't matter to him what's on, new or re-release, he's a big fan of seeing movies in the theater. Another favorite past time for Ole, is picking up some of the best local craft beer he can get his hands on. The best part is he can drink that while doing just about any of the other activities he's interested in.

To start the day off Commander Shepard would sleep in quite a bit. Likely to around 11 AM. Have a nice relaxing breakfast with the crew of the Normandy. He would then go golfing with Garrus, Wrex, and Thane for their usual weekly golf round. Usually by the end of that they are all half in the bag and proceed to hit the nightclubs of Winnipeg. Most are offset by the fact that there are aliens in an Earth nightclub but most relax when they see Commander Shepard who they all know from the Aurora. After some drunk karaoke Shepard then proceeds home to his ship and then starts having a joy ride with Normandy in space. Since there are no laws on drunk flying in space yet Shepard is safe. Shepard then proceeds to Saturn to shoot some of the asteroids in the asteroid belt. At this point his crew is pulling him off the controls as he is behaving recklessly and puts him to bed in his captain quarters. Next day he wakes up and goes to practice.

Six games in a row means a lot of hard work was put in by the young forward McMahon. Having that crucial day off after a tough amount of games means time to rest and recuperate. On his day off Bryce would spend most of it in his leg compression sleeves. Getting over seventeen minutes of ice time a game can take a toll on ones legs. He would sit in front of the couch on the floor with his legs firmly wrapped up for maximum recovery and watch old seasons of survivor. Such a simple premise of a show yet has complex narratives and strategy woven in a weekly episode package. He would likely say to himself "yeah I could win that challenge easily" or "they won't let me on the show because I would win easily" all while being unable to stand and walk due to the toll ice hockey has taken on him. Remember kids, recovery is equally important in your training. Stay safe out there.

Nicholas Owens tends to spend a lot of his free time playing video games. Ever since he was a little kid growing up in Japan, Owens has loved to play all sorts of video games. His favorites where always RPG games growing up. Games like Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Fable, Kingdom Hearts, Digimon Story and Pokemon where just some of Owen's favorites to play. However as time has passed, Owens has leaned more on multiplayer games. Primarily FPS games such as Rainbow Six Siege and Valorant. Unfortunately he doesn't get a ton of time to play them so he isn't the best.
Another past time of Owens is reading. Nicholas Owens grew up on books and has since kept up the hobby has it's something really relaxing, enjoyable, and most importantly can be done pretty much anywhere. Owens generally reads mostly fantasy fictions but also dabbles in all sorts of different genres.
