S59 PT #4 All-Star Snub
#76

Mika Kandinsky has 20 goals and 34 assists for 54 points in 48 games played and didn't make the all star team. This is a snub if I've ever seen one. An over point per game player and a 1C on a contending team doesn't make the all star game. That's unheard of. I'm not sure how Mika's great play this season is getting overlooked. On top of that, Mika is rocking a 59.9% CF. He's playing great hockey and producing at an elite rate and had to sit and watch the all star game at home. I'm not sure what kind of criteria was used here, but it seems that the committee missed a player here. Maybe they felt like too many Toronto players wouldn't be good for the game or something. Carpy and Barron deserved to be there, but so did Mika Kandinsky. Oh well, Mika was happy to have a little break and is ready to come back with a strong push into the playoffs.

Monkey D. Luffy was a clear snub, the guy had high stats and was among the league leaders, but it appears the selection committee favoured some advanced analytics and whatnot, as well as wanting to ensure individual representatives from each team.

To me, while I'm neutral on everyone's feelings on this hot button issue on a personal level, I feel like the average important press member or casual fan would not be able to understand analytics properly, and would just look at the big number for goals and assists, which was Luffy's whole schtick. If we were in a realistic setting Luffy would get in for sure. Whether advanced analytics would agree is another issue, but Luffy plays high stat hockey for a contending team and that can't be denied.

I also feel my guy Nick Brain got a bit reverse snubbed. I feel like hes been below standards defensively, and struggles offensively like quite a few members of the Aurora during a down year. That being said, I'm happy hes in, and the Aurora needed to put SOMEONE into this game.

I'm going to say my All Star game snub going to be Harry Carpet of the Toronto Northstars. I believe he is the best goalie In the league on a team in the best division in the league and he is managing a .923 save percentage and giving Toronto a chance to win every Great Lakes Battle. He has 27-7-3 record which is impressive as a veteran on an up and coming team. His 7 shutouts are tops in the league by two shutouts over the second best in the league as well as his solid 2.47 goals against average considering he plays in the juggernaut Great Lakes division. Overall Harry Carpet is easily one of the best in the league and will likely have nominations in the seasons to come.

I think Harry Carpet deserves a spot but maybe not i dont know but I had to pick one for this point task so here we are. Carpet for all Star is my vote.

I think a decent few people got snubbed from the all star teams. At the time of the announcement I can't really see through what metric Rikard Bjerg made the Western team. With only 14 (or 18 i cant really remember) points at the time, Bjerg did not really produce that much for offense, so I figured that his nomination was through great possession numbers. They ended up not being that good, as his Corsi % Rel was only a zero. I'm guessing his shots blocked were his main reason for inclusion because he had a lot of those. As for who could have made it instead, players like Keith Lee, Kaspars Claude, Adam Scianna or Karlstrasse Scholz had more eye catching statlines, with Lee and Scholz having better stat lines in the possession column. I could also make the case for myself but I'm also having a pretty sub par season. All this being said its good that players from the lower down teams are getting more all star representation.

For me, the biggest All-Star snub this season is Jax Aittokallio from the Manhattan Rage. Aittokallio is having a tremendous season and should have been rewarded for it even, but he was probably snub, because his team is holding him back. From a stats point of view, the difference between Aittokallio and his closest teammates is so large that his exclusion from the All-Star roster is an absolute disgrace. Aittokallio has scored 25 goals this season, that nearly double what is closest teammates has (Ola Wagstrom, 13). Aittokallio also leads the teams in points with 47, which is 17 more than his closest teammates. Aittokallio also has the second highest +/- differential on the team with a -9 which is incredible considering he is their six most used player. Aittokallio would have been a better pick to represent the Manhattan Rage than goaltender Name Redacted, who is not overperforming over the team back up to the same extent as Aittokallio is overperforming compared to the team’s other forward.

If I’m being honest, I didn’t even realize the All Star teams had been announced really. Looking over the team, one inclusion seems particularly onerous, and that’s Axel Meszaros. So bad a player he is running off into retirement instead of further embarrassing himself on the ice, Meszaros has been a bust of the lofty expectations set for him almost a decade ago.

In his place, after far too much effort looking, I think Sven Yxskaft should have been included. He is comparable, if not better, than his teammate F-R Finn-Rhys in almost every category. More points (31 v. 28), near identical but better advanced stats (-0/5 GF/60 versus -0.8, slightly better Corsi and Fenwick), better +/-, and a +13 T-G ratio (Versus FRFR’s -6). Overall, the two are very comparable, so why not include Yxskaft?

If not him, why not a favorite among the players, gritty mean old Jakob Hamr. Dude is hitting everything and throwing his body in front of pucks to help the young and confused Barracuda win a few games. Defensive defensemen are notoriously overlooked, and deserve their day and attention.

There were a huge number of all-star snubs this year. In fact, one could argue that every player not from the Edmonton Blizzard roster didn't deserve to be in the all-star game. However, for the sake of compactness, I'll focus on just one inexcusable snub from the Blizzard: Prince Devitt. A defensive defenseman who still put up 3-17-20 in 51 games, with a plus ten, didn't make the all-star game? We all know +/- is the best stat and the foundation of all analytics. A defenseman who put up such an astronomical plus minus while spending over two minutes a game on the penalty kill should never have been snubbed. Twenty takeaways? Ninety nine blocked shots? The man catches more pucks than the average goalie, and he does it without pads! While eating almost 20 minutes a game, and laying 99 hits over the course of this season so far. How does this guy not make the all-star game? One can only conclude that the Great Lakes Conspiracy was afoot as usual, ensuring all the scrubs that play in that division make the all-star game over the obviously far more worthy Edmonton roster.

So I looked over the teams and thought to myself, who is there that maybe a team didn't have a lot of representatives or anything and deserves to be in the All-Star game. I like that they didn't have any team overrepresented, and kept them to a maximum of 3 players per team. Though ultimately, I think the biggest snub was Toronto's Mika Kandinsky. Toronto already had 3 representatives, though. So what are we to do?

First, we're taking Axel Meszaros off the team. He's being replaced by Corey Kennedy, who was a big snub. Chicago only had 2 representatives, surprisingly. Fewer than Toronto or Buffalo, in spite of being a better team. Kennedy has 36 points in 54 games, similar to his fellow all-star from Chicago Disisde Dayudie. It's reasonable to make him an All-Star and then opens a spot for Toronto to get another.

That is when Mika Kandinsky, who has 56 points in 51 games this season and is by far the top superstar in Toronto's forward core and deserves the spot, gets to be into the All-Star game. This is the easiest selection to me, and way more deserving of the spot ultimately. And out of this, congratulations to both Kennedy and Kandinsky who get the spots they earned.

An old man's dream ended. A young man's vision of the future opened wide. Young men have visions, old men have dreams. But the place for old men to dream is beside the fire.

Instead of a snub - I want to talk about an unworthy inclusion. I'm sure it's been brought up by other people but I would also like to chime in that Axel Meszaros has no business being an all-star. He's being carried by Adam Barron, who has back scoliosis from carrying his defensive partner, and doesn't stand out in any way at all compared to some of the other defenders in the league. Sven Yxskaft for example, would be a much better candidate as an Eastern defender all-star than stinky Axel Meszaros. He's retiring anyways - so oh I guess that's why you included him? Anyways, eventually all the other defenders in the S53 class will fall, especially Jukka Timonen, and then I will be left as the only all-star defender in that class! No one can stop me! Magnus Liljestrom will eventually be an all-star due to sheer perseverance and the elimination of all rivals.

My fellow Swiss, Mitchell van der Heijden, is not having the production he would like or what the team probably expected, but he is having a strong season regardless. We have had a good season in Hamilton and he has a great plus/minus. He’s a bit younger than some of the stars of Hamilton, so he is certainly the future of the team and has a lot of all-star appearances in store for him. But with thirty assists, 22 plus/minus, he’s doing solid. His shooting percentage is down a little, but that’s okay as he’s a solid center all around otherwise. It would be great to have him on the Eastern team. He would have been a solid addition and capable of hanging with all the other all stars. Perhaps with a little better puck luck next season, the puck will find its way into the net more often and his shooting percentage will rise along with his point total.

And with the recent drama in Buffalo including Monkey D. Luffy not being picked in this seasons all-stars, community has had their focus solely on that player - but what really comes in mind when first thinking about an all-star snub this season, this Hamilton's goalie A Jobin. As of writing they stand at 41 wins in their 51 games so far this season for a respectable 81% winrate all throughout the league against various teams, including Buffalo, Texas and Toronto. Hamilton also hold the highest goal differential in the league with 234 goals scored and 120 goals allowed, for +114 ratio - now thats all-star material right there.

But for Jobin himself, in his 41 games played so far he holds 31 victories, averages 2.56 goals against a game, has 4 shutouts and .909 save percentage. Being the starting goaltender in one of the strongest teams in the league while competing against 4 of the 5 strongest teams in the league and having a performance like that, book that man an all-star ticket already.
