Like what do people want from the GL teams. You want us to just... stop drafting? Stop making trades and signing people? Idk what any of us have done wrong here. Nobody has cheated their way to success (in recent memory). We’re just doing our jobs and doing everything we can to keep an edge over our divisional competition. Look at Toronto. They didn’t make the fucking playoffs lol. You think Hamilton, Chicago, or Buffalo wants that fate??
I don't think these things are mutually exclusive like you're making it out to be. Nobody is saying the GL teams are doing anything wrong. Or that people are doing something wrong with wanting to win.

It is depressing to be on a team where you can draft well, trade well, and ultimately those people leave before they can even make a real impact on your team to become a cup contender because you weren't a contender before them. Looking at this example, a S54 is 5 seasons into their career, nowhere near peak, and saying it hasn't been good enough, they want to be on a contender. That's disheartening.

It isn't that you've done anything wrong. Congratulations, you won the fuckin lottery basically and are a contending team at the right time that then everyone wants to join you because having to work for it isn't good enough. And for us on the outside, we keep working for it, and falling short because of a self fulfilling prophecy.

You've built a great team, you're rewarded for it. So have others, but without the reward. They can be upset about it and not be saying you're an asshole for having success or that you need to change what you're doing. They can just be upset without comment.
I think I’d be more inclined to agree with you if I wasn’t hired to the worst franchise in the league with everyone leaving in FA and no actual FA’s coming in. There are countless ways to improve your team, in and out of the sim. Chalking it up to luck is dismissive of these efforts.

I didn't chalk it all up to luck. Nobody did. I don't know where you get this defensive mentality that nobody can be upset about their situation because you had your own situation, but it's dismissive of others experiences. People are allowed to be upset, nobody called you out, nobody said anything bad about you and at worst I implied you had some luck, and to think 0 luck is involved in these things is naive. Yes there are ways to improve, but if those ways fall through because the grass is greener elsewhere and you ultimately did nothing wrong, maybe it's okay to be a bit upset without saying anyone else did anything wrong and not need a lecture on how GL does nothing wrong.

Once again, you've done amazing. Congratulations. You're one of the best GMs ever in the SHL. I don't think we need to specify every time we say it sucks a young player wants to leave for a contender that you're amazing and did great and nothing is your fault. But if so, I'll be sure to add it from now on.

Lately I have learned that this is absolutely the case. Buffalo folks need to constantly be reminded how lucky we are to have them.

Thank you again, Buffalo. You are very special and very good. Your ability to churn out elite talent is unmatched.

I said won the lottery of basically right place, right time of when your competitive window is open. But sure, that's chalking everything up to luck and we can ignore everything else I've said to focus on one word that apparently offended the great beings above.

Sorry, Buffalo did amazingly well and made their team great and is competitive at a time that more people are leaving teams before seeing things through in order to go to more competitive teams, and that has nothing to do with luck, Buffalo knew this would happen, planned it, prepared it and is 100% in control of the universe at large. Congratulations, you are better than I. I need some luck to be involved in my success, even when I've done everything else perfectly but not you.

its not bad to be successful and continue to be successful. In fact, no one in this conversation thus far is criticizing GL at all.

what I'm saying is that the mindset of people who are both tired of GL success AND won't stick around to build a team to compete with GLs is a contradictory one, and sad. It is probably unfair to categorize this thread as being emblematic of that, but it certainly feels like a lot of people stick to this contradictory mindset.
