S61 PT#4- Attributes

Prompt 2:

Now that I have put my foot in the door and have started to make a name for myself, the next thing that I want to work on is being a team player.  I always seem to find it hard to know when to score, so I always want to improve on my passing.  I prefer being the assist disher rather than a goal scorer.  However, I do also want to work on my offensive read, since I'm a valuable enough player to know when I need to pass and when I should take a shot.  I don't want to be all offense though either.  I want to help my defense the moment the puck changes teams, so defensive read seems important to me as well.  As a deer, I don't need to worry too much on my hitting, as I'm quite weighty compared to the majority of the players on the ice (other than not squishing them too too hard).  Overall, I'm pleased with the improvements I have shown, and plan on working on my offensive game along with my defensive reading.

Nick would probably take a negative effect if we're being honest. Wayne Gretzky only had like 26 in some attributes during his peak years in FHM files, so going above that would be a problem for game balance. I'm guessing that it would not favour someone with a balanced style such as myself, and would favour people specialized more in defense (to just completely lock down some opponents), or offense (to score on every shot, unless it gets checked by a goalie with 91 glove easily).

Long term with regression, this could be solved, as I could specialize in stuff like shooting accuracy and checking and getting open instead of being a bit more well-rounded. But regression will take a big bite into that, and we have enough problems as is keeping 1500TPE bois relevant in the grand scheme of things.

Overall, its hard to tell if Nick Brain would be worse because its a down year for him, but I doubt he would be much better.

When I first created Theo Kondos ill be honest, I had no preference on what type of player I wanted to build. My last forward started as playmaking winger, until I transitioned to playing defence. With that it mind I kept a pretty open mind set on how I would end up building this player. I just knew one thing forsure, and that was I did not want to build a grinder. Up to this point i've been focused on trying to become a more offensive player. With that said my point totals each season don't get much better, weird how that works. Ultimately by the end of my career I hope my player can be a stud fantasy player that is picked early season after season. To accomplish this I will definitely have to up my point production, but also work my way to improving my physical skills, which might actually make the most difference in my player build.

PROMPT 2
I have been battling regression pretty hard for the past couple of seasons and I think that the next offseason it is going up a percentage. My offense has been very good so I would not try to touch it that much, but at the same time, taking out my defensive abilities would really hurt my team. So far this season I have been playing with Sven Yxskaft who is an offensive machine so, to contemplate his game, Ill try to be more of a two way defender and make for a great duo on the back end for New England. I should focus more on my hitting and shot blocking because Sven has his a lot lower than his offensive stats. His stats on the Physical side of things are definitely better than mine, but at the same time, I have 4 inches and like 30 pounds on him genetically. My physical presence and defensive presence will scare the opponents and then his offensive attributes would change the result on the scoreboard.

Wow did Scott Thorn ever get a boost from this creative exercise. As a punishing forward build Im getting quite a boost for this. Scott Thorns current hitting is 14. Now its going all the way up to 41! Prepare for some serious physical play on the ice this week as Thorny will be bashing heads, breaking bones and bringing fear to opponents. Also looks like checking is going from 13 to 31. Thorny is gonna be a force to be reckoned with this week. And holy smokes, fighting? from 5 to 50. This is what Thorny has always wanted and coach will hate. I forsee a lot of time the box as Thorny demolishes players on the ice like freight truck crashing into the boards. Is there anything from this week that will be a detriment? Definitely not as this is a boost for all rookies. Lets make this change permanent please!

Well the attribute I value most on Mew Two is Mew Two's getting open and his shooting accuracy. I need to get some other attributes up before I continue to upgrade those two, but when I created I said my goal was to be the highest scorer in the league one season, and those two attributes are key to doing that. For now I am working on becoming a more well-rounded player. I am currently investing in attributes such as Stamina, Balance, and Defensive read, with the goal of investing enough TPE into those three attributes to raise them a single point, up to 17. This is because my GM told me to do that. I am fine with Stamina and Balance, but defense is for losers and I am appalled I have to waste TPE to do that. At my core, I just want to be remembered as a goal scoring winger, so hopefully the sim will bless me.

Hmmmm, well fortunately for me I opted to be good overall instead of great in fewer attributes. The max I have in any single attribute is an 18 so instead I get 81. I'm assuming the new max is 100, so 18 out of 20 is relatively the same as 81/100 so little will happen to my core attributes like getting open, puck-handling, range and read. Perhaps one of the more interesting things that'll happen is that maybe old Scholz will drop the gloves again. His fighting and aggression would shoot to 50 instead of just a measly 5. Paired with a pretty decent hitting game I bet he may be inclined to fight a few more times. The bar is super low right now with zero total fights last season. My accuracy would drop as well so even more of my clap bombs from the point would go wide. that's nice. Overall it would slow down my dudes game so I'm against this goofy alternate reality haha.

Thanks for the sig ragnar!

When I first created Greyson Cooper I knew the exact type of player I wanted to create. I wanted to model him off of Edmonton Oiler Leon Draisaitl. A stronger winger who can get open & get the puck to the back of the net. That’s exactly what I did when I created him & made him a sniper. The attributes I focused on the most was getting open, passing & puck handling all at 15. So far it has been a really strong build & I am currently leading the league in goals & points. I’ve had a lot of help with the attributes & understanding them. One thing I’m gonna work on this season is my passing, I’m getting into the back of the net but not passing as much as I could. We’re doing really well this season so I don’t want to mess with things too much but every season I plan on getting stronger & stronger.

Looking over my attributes, I'm pretty luck that I don't have any 20's, and while I don't have any 19's either, I'm sitting on a couple 18's that are going to climb to 81. Specifically, Getting Open, Passing, Puckhandling, Offensive Read, Checking, and Defensive Read. That's a long list of attributes that are now 10 points off the max. Given the attributes there, it'd be unmatched potential in terms of reading the play, pressuring and picking apart the oppositions defence/offense with puckhandling, vision, and crisp passes, all the while having a killer ability to get open. That also doesn't account for the various attributes that will become 71's. I think one of the most important 71's to acknowledge is Shooting Range. This mfer Axel Foley is gonna be ripping shots from his own goal line with a ton of power. That power would come from the physical attributes that are sitting at 71 or 51, which makes Foley essentially Ronnie Coleman (the one big cop I think). Well, everything is 51 and 71 other than fighting, which is now 50.

This is something I also want to acknowledge with this prompt. The league is going to be fucked with PIM's. Everyone is sitting at 50 fighting unless you're an Adam Friedland or Juni Panda that wants to fight. There is absolutely not chance that any hit is going to cause a fight. Thankfully most people don't have high fighting so they'll possible be at 1 or around 31, which is low relative to fighting and other stuff in the 17-19 range.

I have always valued passing above all else. I went in to this player with the intention of making an assist machine, ending up on season leaderboards and being a playmaker for the yung SMJHLers to look up to. I'm glad we moved to FHM because clearly passing was not the way to go with STHS. I am very much an offense first type player and try to put my points in such attributes although I do behave if Tomen tells me not to. Team success is my success so sometimes you gotta sacrifice to get what you want. But I've always tried to get that passing attribute up. I don't know if its worth it to hit 20 but I'm almost at peak season so we'll see if it happens. Other offensive stats are important too for passing that puck. Getting Open gives me space and time to look for my target. Offensive read gives me the big brain to determine which pass is the one to make. Puckhandling allows me to keep the puck if there's not a good enough pass open just yet. These 4 stats have been my focus really.

PROMPT 2-

Ya I didn't really feel like opening up my player page but it's been so long since I had to open it I forget what my best attributes are. Going on 3 years capped now. (Rocks rocking chair) I know I have good stamina and defensive read. My offensive read is good too. Once I join the big leagues and get to update, my defensive stats are going to explode. I will probably have a defensive read of 18 as a rookie, that's my goal anyway. And speaking of goals I want to keep my offensive ratios similar to what they are at my 425 cap because I've been pretty happy with my production in juniors. I always thought I'd be an assist machine but I get a ton of shots every year. So weird. It would be sweet if I could keep that going throughout my career. My physicals attributes are in the most need of an update. I definitely notice my players has less hits and blocks this season. The team doesn't need me for it, that's okay. But when I go up and unbank, my checking will get a bump for sure.

PROMPT 2-

SPEED BABY! Hockey definitely emphasizes quickness more often than speed, but in the moments when it does emphasize speed, speed is critically important. When players are near the puck along the walls or around the net there are almost always a lot of bodies around them, making quickness the key to success. But when transitioning and when there is good space available on the rink, speed places a lot of pressure on the defense (and defense needs to manage that pressure with a speed of its own). In these situations, a speed advantage can lead directly to an opportunity created or an opportunity prevented. Quickness is important more often, but when speed is important it is highly important.

Speed is arguably the most critical physical capacity in ice hockey. In other words, no single physical attribute will dictate a player’s success at a given level more than speed. As a result, training PROPERLY for speed is an absolutely essential part of a player’s development. In an attempt to understand what factors may predict faster skaters, several studies have looked at the relationship between off-ice sprinting speeds and on-ice skating speed and found that there’s a moderate correlation. In other words, faster runners are generally faster skaters, but there is a lot of gray area. One of the very first things students learn in any introductory statistics or research methods course is that “correlation does not imply causation.” Simply, just because two things are related does not mean that one directly explains the other.

PROMPT 2

Since day one I have mainly concentrated on building a defensive minded player. Originally I planned on having only defensive stats and avoiding offensive categories but numerous mentors have convinced me to be a more balanced player while still having an emphasis on defense. Looking at my stats now reveals that I have managed to do that - my offensive stats are pretty good while my defensive stats are a bit better.

Most of my upgrades now require 25 or more TPEs, so I choose wisely for each stat. Currently I have two stats I am aiming to move up to 18 soon, stick-checking and balance. If I get off my ass and write some media I should have enough money to do both before the playoffs start, and even a little more to spend on any of my smaller stats. My first 19 will probably be spent on defensive read but that will probably be next season at the earliest.

I'll be going with Prompt 2 for this PT. Lev Lebedev was created with the idea of being a universal forward who excels at both goal scoring and defensiveness. His initial attributes were well rounded to be a force to be reckoned with no matter where he was on the ice. That being said, after Lev's debut rookie season, he dove head first into a leading goal scorer position. He became a monster with the puck and his stats were quickly updated to reflect that. His shooting accuracy, offensive read, and ability to get open became his leading strengths. These strengths are what help Lev guide the puck to the back of the net nearly every game. As Lev continues to progress, he is looking to continue strengthening his standout attributes, while also putting some focus on his speed and stamina in order to keep up when he gets to the SHL. Karl is a hard hitting, shot blocking, hard shooting, get into your face gritty player. He had a very slow rising because he was slowly improving at a lot of different areas at once before exploding out of the gun in season 58. Since that breakout season, he has continued to be one of the leagues best known power forwards. As regression slowly eats away at his top end abilities and Karl's body takes on wear and tear, he plans on converting to a less physical presence, perhaps a pure sniper, or a defensive shutdown specialist. Which exact play style still remains up in the air, the only thing that is certain is sooner or later there's going to be a shift on the Platoon, the young movement is about to break through and take over a lot of the hard minutes. Who knows, maybe Karl would even find himself playing his trade on a different team with different needs?

For now, Karl still has a few seasons left to do what he does best.
