S62 PT #4: Gearing Up

Prompt 2

I think that there was a lot of things that the Chicago Syndicate needed to find themselves addressing. With Gunnar’s zombified body continuing to defy science and religion in its ability to continue playing beyond the grave, as well as having a career season in their afterlife, the team wanted to add a research department in order to harness the ability of post life player ability. Jukka Timonen volunteered for this role but many believe it was a ploy in order to continue to develop his own research in enhancing or increasing the rate of human deterioration. Not sure why but it seems to be a goal of his. Anyways, beyond the need to add to the research department in the Syndicate, the other thing that the team could probably use was a defensively responsible shut down centre. Unfortunately since that role is permanently ghost filled then there’s really nothing that the organization could conceive of themselves attempting to do.

Prompt 2
At the trade deadline the Quebec city citadelles weren’t looking as good as they could this season so at the trade deadline they made it quite a few trades so that a rebuild can happen in the next couple of seasons. They were able to acquire some higher draft picks For the next couple of seasons. We lost some of our players who have been here for many seasons but I know that Quebec will be right back in the playoff running for many seasons to come again. Our record started out good for the beginning of the season but as the season started closing out we were finding ourselves in the losing end. We were on multiple losing streaks and it was something that needed to be done before the deadline. I’m not really sure who is going to be taking home the cup this year but I wouldn’t be mad if Quebec ended up sneaking into the mix.

P2- This was the last season before FN LN is killed by the new regression. With that in mind I had a lot of fun this season, even though I fell short of the point per game mark I think overall I had a really good season. 67th in fantasy scoring is pretty decent and the only thing that held me back was our mid season slump. We went like 10 games playing like absolute dogshit and it hurts all our numbers. Super excited for playoffs and our whole team is gearing up to grind some games and hopefully win a series. Overall I need to step my game up and have a huge series against TBB. Hopefully regression doesn’t kill me off too bad but I want to grind out 1 more good season before FN LN dies off and bites the dust. Fingers crossed and let’s hope for a late career push.

Prompt 2

I think that nothing really interesting will happen in the latter half of this season, and it will be very much just be a continuation of the first half. Ryuuji Minamino and the Chicago Syndicate will continue their dominance, and the same three of four teams will follow them in the standings as usual. The trade deadline will come and go with nothing of significance happening as teams don't have the budget and/or the willingness to bring in big pieces to shift their chances in the postseason. Speaking of the playoffs, my Texas Renegades will face off against the Minnesota Monarchs in the first round. While Minnesota has a solid roster, they likely won't be able to put up too much of a challenge. It will be a similar picture in every other first round matchup as the higher seed will likely prevail quite easily except for perhaps the Calgary-Seattle matchup.

Prompt 2

Wel this season was another rough one. Real slog of a season where I felt hope and then it crashed and burned and the stars seemed to lose steam. Sucks because we have a great group of guys in this locker room but we always seem to fall a step behind. I scored more than I have before but my other defensive stats kind of tanked which sucks because I am a defenseman. I should be all defending shit, but alas started off well and kind of tanked it as the season went further. I think it’s because Luffy got some sort of computer virus and needed time in rehab/hospital or any place where virtual people go to get better. I still have hope we can crush the playoffs but who knows, Buffalo is always there to rain on our parade. So fingers crossed as we go once again into the breach.

Prompt 2

Ah yes, it is two thirds through the season as I answer this question. I think this will be another status quo season as the top teams in the west pull away a bit. We are in the same spot relative to last year, even though we are trending a bit lower. I don’t think we need to blow up with any big trades because we have a young team that is growing. No trade is going to jump us up to contender status so we just keep growing as some teams above us age out.

I don’t think Slip McScruff is high enough TPE anymore to be a target for a contender, so it’s not like I would be traded away for assets. Instead, I hope I can pull my weight to be a serviceable PK specialist while the young guns carry the team to the top. That will certainly be a mixed bag with the new regression changes. The current powerhouses will fade faster, so our time may come sooner, but my time will come sooner as well. We’ll come out ahead as the total TPE lost by a whole team is more than the TPE I lose by myself.

Prompt 2

So I get the benefit of doing this last minute again, but I'll be honest and say other than our record, I didn't really see the end of the season going any different. I was really hoping that we could put together a few more wins despite our playoff position pretty much already locked in. Would have been nice to go into the playoffs on a roll, but we ultimately went 1-8-0-1 in the last 10 with I think the lone win coming against Winnipeg. We knew what this season was going to be going into it and unless a trade was going to happen to ensure success in the long run, I didn't see us adding any pieces for a playoff push. Our destiny was pretty set in stone with having to face Chicago or Texas and its going to take a major upset to get past either of those very strong teams. Who knows though, I've been on one Cinderella run before...

At the time I'm doing this, the SMJHL Regular Season has ended. The Anchorage Armada had tied for first in the league with the Vancouver Whalers, which bodes well for them going into the playoffs. However, I think that the Whalers (and the Berserkers, to an extent) are a completely different beast as their goal differential is much, much higher than that of Anchorage. But, tying for first through the league with the Whalers is a big accomplishment, and one tha the Armada roster will have to ride going into the playoffs. Thinking back, I almost thought that Novikov would have been dealt to another team as the Armada roster had to go through some growing pains but that just goes to show the expertise of the Armada front office / coaching staff to pull together a first place season against some extremely strong teams in the Whalers and the Berserkers.

Kermit Murphy was ecstatic to get another shot at taking down his Seattle Argonauts defense partner and mentor, Cassius Darrow - the captain of the Grizzled Vets squad. He had risen to the occasion in their first meeting with a few points, but the way Darrow was able to command the game and read plays on sheer experience stuck with Murphy even as they returned to Seattle to play together. After more and more practice time and games alongside the future Hall of Famer, Murphy was quickly learning to slow the game down for himself and make consistently positive plays in just about every scenario. This game represented a chance to prove himself further to the captain of the Argonauts who had taken him under his wing since he arrived in the organization. Murphy scored the first goal of the game, blocked 7 shots, and sent teammate Vaseline Podcalzone in alone on a breakaway late to seal a 2-0 win in his 26 minutes of ice time.

Another year has come and gone in Regina and without the luxury of the guaranteed playoff spot, they saw their postseason hopes slip away this past week. At the start of the year the team was hopeful that with improving core players and the addition of talented defenseman San-Sam Emerson, they could challenge for a spot this season. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. With some turmoil in the front office and some abrupt change over this past offseason, the team will look to rebound in year three as their core players hit their prime. Having major star power at most positions and major core pieces hitting their stride, Regina will be a team to watch in season 63. With the addition of a possible major draft this coming offseason GMs Lespoils and Thunder will take the extra time off to begin scouting efforts and assess team needs. It's the playoffs or best for Regina next season.
